Deadbeat Dylan?

I spent an interesting hour on the phone last night with Matthew Brown. Matt was the executive producer of Loose Change 9-11 An American Coup; his name appears in the opening credits in between Korey Rowe and Dylan Avery. Matt shared quite a bit of behind-the-scenes information with me which I will cover in several subsequent posts. But I thought I would start with a discussion of the Avery Foundation. As some of you may recall, this was supposed to be a charitable organization that Dylan claimed would end up donating more to the first responders on 9-11 than Greenglass did with United 93 and Oliver Stone did with World Trade Center.

Well, you know where you can take that pledge; to the bank of broken promises, where Dylan's already overdrawn. But it gets worse. Matt mentioned that he had located a few high net worth individuals who were prepared to donate around $230,000 to Dylan's charity to get it started. That's right, almost a quarter of a million dollars, which could have been helping first responders as we speak. But, as you can probably guess, Dylan and Korey didn't get the paperwork completed to set up the charity, and the proposed donors found other places to give their money.

Up until recently, the Avery Foundation's website had a little note saying that they were in the process of filing the necessary paperwork; hilariously, it doesn't say that any longer. Instead, there's this:

Yep, Dylan and Korey are refusing to pay their executive producer the money he's owed from the sales of the DVDs. Incidentally, Matt mentioned that LC911AC has sold about 15,000 copies, about half of those to the Netflix DVD rental company.

I will have much more information to share over the next few days, but this was too delicious not to post on immediately.

Update: Microcinema Interational writes in the comments:

Please note that neither Microcinema nor writer-director Dylan Avery or producer Korey Rowe are associated in any way to www.theaveryfoundation.org. If you would like to visit the official website for The Avery Foundation, go to: www.theaveryfoundation.com.

Should you be interested in speaking directly to the President of The Avery Foundation, please write to: info@microcinema.com, Attention - Patrick Kwiatkowski.

But of course, if you go to www.theaveryfoundation.com, it redirects to the same page as www.theaveryfoundation.org.

Update II: Well, they fixed that. Of course there going to have some work to do to fix Google, which will show the Avery Foundation here for awhile.

Pat, thinking as a lawyer, did you get the feeling that these guys documented the transaction (especially as to compensation for the producer) or does it seem like they blew through that just like they've blown through all other "formalities"?

It this standard English usage or truther usage?

  14. Matt certainly indicated that things are quite frosty between Alex and Dylan and Jason and Dylan; I suspect that Jason is indeed owed money. I note that Alex still markets The Final Cut on Infowars, however.

Who would you represent? They're all frauds.

I suspect this is a joke, as your name directs to Kaye Scholer. Although, oddly, I remember Kaye Scholer did represent the weirdest part I ever met in a serious transaction.

Not true. Anyone can have a .org registration. There is no requirement that you be an organization, much less a non-profit. And many non-profits own .com domains, if only for redirection purposes. For example, nra.com redirects to nra.org.

You know what this is? It's the world's tiniest violin playing playing for the executive producer of Loose Change: An American Coup.

If Microcinema had done the tiniest amount of due diligence before they agreed to this deal, they would have learned that Dylan Avery had already failed to deliver on two sets of promises: one, to Alex Jones as a prior financier, and two, that deals were in place to show the Final Cut on X thousand numbers of screens in Y number of countries. Not to mention smaller announced deals that failed to materialize, like the Mark Cuban non-negotiations, and the Virgin Airlines "oh well, we got paid anyway" thing. And failing even that, they could have learned that the damn movie had been released four or five times already, including a "final cut," to ever-decreasing audiences.

Earth to Microcinema International: Dylan Avery is a con man. You got conned. Try to learn from it.

Triterope, it won't surprise me if Dylan Avery ends with serious legal issues some time soon. I think he's made too many promises out there in respect of giving money to first responders. And I'm not sure how he finances his lifestyle. It wouldn't surprise me if it is soon the case that his world starts crashing around him like Jerry Lundegaard's world. Dylan didn't kill a guy or anything, but he seems like a cheat, and people are starting to call him on it.

Well, I don't know about "soon." The wheels of financial justice grind slowly. Within the next five years, maybe. But I agree that Mr. Avery's continual soliciting of donations to charities he can't be bothered to do the paperwork for is bound to attract some attention. And if his disinterest in paperwork extends to his personal tax returns of the glory years of Loose Change, he can expect to hear from the IRS some day.

Look Walt. What you've got to realise is that even when you post under sock-puppets (like 'A Real Veteran') your retarded rants follow a similar style, and it is pretty fucking obvious that they all come from one mentally deranged truther - and that's you.

Perhaps - when you posed as 'A Real Veteran' - you might have got away with it if you learnt how to use a spacebar, and if you didn't repeat the same third-grade insults that you used in other posts.

You decided a couple of months back that you were going to try to put JamesB in his place by posing as a soldier who'd served in Iraq, and you tried to pin the 'weekend warrior' tag on him. You were enough of a wanker to claim to have done something you lack the balls to do (namely, serve in the military and go to war), and stupid enough not even to bother checking some basic facts, such as how long the average GI's tour lasts. You've outed yourself as a fantasist and a failure, and as long as you keep posting comments here, you're going to keep being reminded of it. So dry your eyes out princess. You'll always be a Walt until the day you drink the Drano (which hopefully won't be too long).
