Go Check Out Mikey Metz!

He's recently graduated from college and has more time to blog. Read the post that got him banned at the Looser Forums. Learn of Ron Paul's lunatic wrestler supporter, and of Mikey's realization that the center is where it's at. He's right (I'm a moderate myself), but one lesson I've learned is that when you're in the center, you'll frequently find yourself getting shot at from both sides of the street.

Mikey's a terrific writer, and a much better thinker than I was at his age.

I'm OK, You're Disinfo, Part II

Mikey Metz discovered that there was some fallout from the Opie & Anthony versus the Troofers debacle that we linked the other day. Apparently two of the characters involved are now pointing the finger at each other over the fiasco, and Mikey observes that there still seems to be some hostility over the big Les Jamieson/We Are Change split that we covered early in the year.

Congrats as well to Mikey, who advised us in the comments that he's finishing up his final papers prior to graduation.

Mikey Metz Still Blogging

I checked out his blog periodically during October and didn't see any new content, but Mikey did put up several posts late in the month and has changed the look of the site. The college newspaper put up an article about the post that went 'round the blogosphere.

In the blog he writes about his "change of heart" concerning the 9/11 Truth movement, and presents his own account of what happened on 9/11, completely contrary to what he believed when he started the UAlbany Truth chapter. The blog has over one-hundred comments with mixed reactions. To some, Metzger is a patriot, to others he is a traitor. The blog was picked up and reposted by both sides of the spectrum and ultimately wound up on Digg.com, and has been 'liked' over one-hundred fifty times.

He replies to a post at 9-11 Blogger attacking him, and salutes JREF forum member Diagoras for being a fellow "extruther". I like this part:

What also helped was quitting pot. I don't know if the same goes for you, but my personal observation is that most truthers are total potheads. A different breed than your typical pothead-- they can remain somewhat coherent and actually engage in activity if compelled enough. They think that they have a rare ability to work through their highs, and in some cases it's true. Unfortunately for them, they neglect to realize the effects that chronic pot-smoking has on reasoning, critical thinking, and outright paranoid delusions.

A Response to Mikey Metz

Well, it took awhile, but somebody's finally responded to Mikey Metz's blog post denouncing the 9-11 Truth Movement. Of course, it's the usual Troofer stew of mistakes, lies and logical leaps.

There are reasons to doubt the hijacker story. I remain agnostic on this question of whether they did it, but I can see both sides.

1) The identities are in doubt, yet the government refused to correct them, or to admit they were unsure.

People whose photos appeared as the FBI's hijackers turned up alive. This is very strange.

Very strange indeed.

We recently asked the FBI for a statement, and this is, as things stand, the closest thing we have to a definitive view: The FBI is confident that it has positively identified the nineteen hijackers responsible for the 9/11 terrorist attacks. Also, the 9/11 investigation was thoroughly reviewed by the National Commission on Terrorist Attacks Upon the United States and the House and Senate Joint Inquiry. Neither of these reviews ever raised the issue of doubt about the identity of the nineteen hijackers.

2) The Pentagon plane maneuver could not have been performed by the pilot the government says was in control. Thus say numerous professional pilots. This is a discrepancy. The Pentagon plane is highly suspicous for many reason (which I don't see you acknowledging).

As we discussed last year, a Dutch TV program testing the 9-11 Conspiracy theories featured the host attempting to hit the Pentagon in a flight simulator. Despite not having anywhere near Hani Hanjour's experience level, the host was able to hit the target three times in as many attempts.

3) There has been no proof shown to the public that the men the government say did it actually got on the plane. Where are the airport videos, with time codes?

He might as well ask, where is the video from the plane itself. Surely there is a photo of Mohamed Atta being greeted by the flight attendants? The simple fact is that there were not security cameras filming people boarding their planes. As far as I know, these cameras do not exist even today.

4) This plot was known about by US intelligence before the fact, and that makes it even more suspicious. If it was indeed an "inside job" then Cheney/Rumsfeld et al. would probably not leave it up to suicide hijackers to determine the outcome.

Of course, no evidence is provided that "this plot was known about by US intelligence", and that's a might big "if".

5) There are other ways to hijack a plane, remotely using the plane's onboard flight control system.

The rest of it is just as weak. Check out this part:

There was a lot of planted evidence that seemed to implicate radical Muslims. FBI investigators complained about it. Planted evidence and hidden evidence are not very confidence building.

Yes, there is no link to show that FBI investigators complained about "planted" evidence.

The black boxes of the planes at the WTC were recovered by fireman Nicholas Demassi. The FBI claims they were never found. We have no data, to date, from those black boxes.

There has always been some skepticism about this assertion, particularly as two N.Y. City firefighters, Mike Bellone and Nicholas De Masi, claimed in 2004 that they had found three of the four boxes, and that Federal agents took them and told the two men not to mention having found them. (The FBI denies the whole story.)

Of course, Bellone is a phony fireman as we have discussed in the past.

Michael Bellone, the self-proclaimed "honorary New York firefighter," who spoke to 100-200 people at Concordia University about the events of 9-11 is a "fraud," according to New York Fire Marshal Conrad Tinney.

"It wasn't until two years later that we began getting complaints about him," Tinney said. "We have one honorary firefighter and that is a child from the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Aside from the child, it is normally the chiefs and those above who are made honorary firefighters and he (Bellone) isn't one. He's saying he was made an honorary firefighter by New York Fire Commissioner Nicholas Scoppetta. That's a fallacy."

To the comments left in his original post, and to his co-founder of the UAlbany Truth group.

I am truly sorry that my actions as a “truther” deeply upset you. It was never my intent to spread lies about what happened on 9/11. Like all truthers, I truly believed I was doing the victims a favor by asking those questions. But, I was wrong to do so without doing my own research. I cannot imagine the torment caused to a family member of a Flight 93 victim, for instance, trying to be told that it was shot down or there was no plane to begin with. It’s completely wrong to try to downplay the heroism of these victims, by saying that “boxcutters are a joke” or the “let’s roll” remark was just a govt. psy-op to invoke patriotism.

As far as putting more effort toward “countering my lies,” I’m really torn. As mentioned earlier, those guys are still my friends and I just can’t picture myself following them around and discrediting them as they’re handing out their pamphlets. My hope is to attempt to show them the light, but some of them are so invested into it, I’m not expecting too much. For now, I’m going to try and stay consistent with this blog to take down the real culprits—the heads of the movement who are lying.

That's just a superb response, and one that I have no trouble accepting. You know one obvious sign that Mikey wasn't really cut out to be a "Truther"? It's that he writes so clearly and cogently, with none of those misspelled words, none of that cutesy "cuz" for because, no unformed thoughts. That's pretty rare in someone his age and even rarer among the blackshirts.

He's apparently got a response coming for Dylan, and I am looking forward to that greatly!
