Wow. Aside from Bill Clinton and Newt Gingrich (now there's a pairing for you), I can't think of anyone who's come up with a better response to the Truthers, and theirs were much more succinct. Noam gives what appears to be a very much more carefully thought-out response that should have the Truthers saying, "Damn it, he's right! We should be submitting this stuff to the professional engineering societies and similar groups, instead of moaning about the Left Gatekeepers like Chomsky."
No surprise, that is not what is happening according to this thread over at Flogger.

Chomsky has spent basically his entire professional life criticizing US government policy to the point where he's far better known for that than he is for his work in linguistics. If there was even a shred of possibility of anything the truthers babble about being true, I imagine ol' Noam would be all over it.
The truthers are so desperate that they took his comments criticizing the bin Laden raid as some sort of "see the light" moment, when Chomsky was merely saying that (in his view) the US carried out an extra-legal execution. He never said that bin Laden was innocent of 9/11.
