Marvelous Marvin Bush

I mentioned yesterday that Jason Bermas discussed his theories for how Marvin Bush helped emplace explosives in the World Trade Centers, but I never got into it in detail. There were so many stupid things to address in that interview I never thought I would get through it. But for your entertainment value, here is what he said, from the 53 minute point of the second hour:

Bermas: Let's say uhh... Marvin Bush is on the board of directors for Securacom. So is one of Bush's first cousins. One of those guys makes the decision, and they go to one of their uppers and they say, hey, don't worry about using your guys, we'll use, you know, an intelligence team. You know, his old man gets CIA briefings all the time. Or maybe he uses, like 2-3 of his most well trusted guys. Who knows what they do, but what we do need to ask is an investigation where, you now, Marvin Bush and other board members can be supeoned and we can ask these questions.

(Killtown?) he was at New York that day, he was around the area.

Bermas: Yes, in fact I do believe Barbara Bush said he was there the night before, or something, right? He was ending his ties the day before, at the Trade Center.

Caller: Yeah, and I believe Rudy Giuliani was there too, and he was in London and he just happened to be there when their bombs went off.

This Marvin Bush story is one of the most often repeated myths in the CT playbook. And it is completely bogus. For starters, the company's name is Stratesec, it changed its name from Securacom in 1997, 4 years before 9/11.

Secondly, Bush was only on the board of directors, he was not in any position to control the operations of the company. Obviously, based on Loose Change and the Loosers' other comments, you could not fill a thimble with what these 3 collectively understand about economics and business, so pay attention boys, from the Wikipedia entry for board of directors:

The Board of Directors is a group of individuals that are elected by the shareholders of a corporation and empowered to carry out certain tasks spelled out in the corporation's charter. These powers include appointing executive management, issuing additional shares and declaring dividends. In most public companies, the board will usually consist of both inside and outside directors.

Where in there does it say they are in charge of day-to-day security operations? Besides, Marvin Bush left in June 2000, so he was not in New York on September 10th, 2001 ending his relationship with the company. Hey Bermas, e-mail me and I will send you their 10K's. Who am I kidding, you couldn't spell 10K...

Additionally, Stratesec was not responsible for security personnel at the World Trade Center, their role was purely electronic security. And they didn't even have that role on 9/11, their contract ended 3 years earlier (hat tip : Internet Detectives)

Securacom got the $8.3 million World Trade Center security contract in October 1996 and received about $9.2 million from the WTC job from 1996 (a quarter of its revenues that year) to 1998. But in 1998, the company was "excused from the project" because it could not fulfill the work, according to former manager Al Weinstein, and the electronic security work at the WTC was taken over by EJ Electric, a larger contractor.

So basically about the only thing he got right, was when he said "uhh".

Update: By the way, this whole Wirt Walker and Marvin Bush being cousins thing also seems apocryphal. They have no known relation. Just like the Michael Chertoff - Benjamin Chertoff story it appears it is based off of nothing more than similar names in the family. Wirt Walker and George Herbert Walker Bush. If you CTs don't believe me, than I ask you. Which two parents of theirs are siblings?

The other problem I have with the "cousin theory" is that blood-ties don't necessarily mean instant loyalty. I've got a cousin that I wouldn't trust to feed my cats, and friends for whom I would gladly take a bullet. You can reward a non-relative just as easily as you can someone who is related.

The only thing I can think of is the idea that family makes conspiracy more likely in the minds of CTers. You see your cousin at a family reunion, have a steak, plot world domination.

Luke Skywalker is the son of Darth Vader. Ergo, Luke is a Sith Lord.

Makes perfect sense to me. :p

Marvin was in NYC that day; Barbara Bush mentions it in her latest book. He was in the subway downtown when the attacks occurred, but not really close to the WTC.

Funny you guys... re: Marvin, you say, "he was only on the board of directors." Perhaps this ploy works on the stupid and ill-informed, but not me: The board of directors in any firm is the most powerful entity with regards to the organization. They tell the CEO/President what to do -- they are his or her boss -- and they interface to the shareholders. So what are you talking about? What is your point? Basically, based even on your dishonest telling of the tale, it means that it is quite a reasonable statement to say that Marvin "was in charge of security" because he was on the board of directors. Get your debunking straight next time if you want to impress anyone.

You expect me to believe that a Bush would take the NY Subway? The only reason I can imagine Marvin Bush being in a subway was if he was using it as a Bomb shelter!
