Fantasy vs Reality

I was amused by the irony of these two pictures posted recently over at 911 blogger. The first, evidently a photo from a 60s protest, is from a post calling 911 truthers to action. The second is a photo of them actually in action.

One of the saddest things for me, as a "normal" middle-class American who was taught to love his country, is to see people in the 9/11 Truth movement belittled and made fun of. People like Kevin Barrett, David Ray Griffin, Peter Dale Scott, the 9/11 responders who are dying, and yes, the Loose Change crew, are the true Americans in my eyes. When I compare their courageous actions to the lies and deceit of the govt., military, and media regarding 9/11, I have no doubt whose side I am on. If you people at ScrewLooseChange want to be on Dick Cheney, Richard Meyers, Rupert Murdoch, Rudolph Guiliani, and Christine Todd Whitman's side, go ahead.

I'm not so sure I would include Kevin Barrett in my list, Bub.

What kind of Western person would convert to Islam? What kind of person would put up with having Fetzer as a partner on his radio show. What kind of insane individual would name his show Truth Jihad, thereby congering up the word that is used by some Muslims to sanction murder and indiscriminate killing in "God's" name.

I know hardly anyone will agree with me, but I believe there is something fishy going on there.

(For what it's worth, I'm not bashing Islam as a Religion that no one would convert to. An an atheist, I find the idea of joining any faith that worships a God as silly.)

The responders are heroes. The fact you insult them by including moronic nutjobs in the same sentence as them shows that you aren't normal in any sense of the word. They're Americans in the sense that they have citizenship in this country. They aren't "real" Americans in any sense of this nation's ideals. Unless you think America stands for lying, twisting facts, quote mining, ignorance of basic science, insulting the dead and such.

They're made fun of because they have stupid ideas. They're made fun of because when those stupid ideas are proven to be false they keep repeating the same stupid ideas. When they start using logic, evidence, and a rational thought process they won't be belittled. I won't hold my breath for such a day.

If you people at ScrewLooseChange want to be on Dick Cheney, Richard Meyers, Rupert Murdoch, Rudolph Guiliani, and Christine Todd Whitman's side, go ahead.

Murdoch is an Aussie, professor.

You also fall into the false dilemma falacy. Just because we know (notice the word choice: know, not think) that the morons you named are wrong doesn't mean we're neocons. I'm sure you'd decry Bush for saying that "you're with the terrorists or against us" and not realize what an unbelievable hypocrite you'd be.

BG, apparently you are referring to the M-THEL project. If you know anything about that project (besides the almost 26 mins you watched in that video) you'd know of its limitations, the top one being mobility ... so tell me, how could it be used against the WTC towers if it has such a limitation?

And while you are at it, can you point to a single example of this "weapon" being mounted on a satellite?

They are freely offering aid and comfort to the enemy in a time of war. No one is holding a gun to thier heads and making them do it.

Of they are succsessful in thier objective of convincing the world that the enemy does not exist, they will have handed back to the terrorists the element of suprise that the exploited so successfully to murder 3000 innocent people on 9-11. They will kill thousand, even millions, of thier countrymen and citizens of allied nations.

They are truly TRAITORS to thier nation and its allies in every sense of the word.

May God have mercy on thier souls.

This is the kind of evil that you are wringing your hands over, Bubblehead:

BG, you raise some interesting points about Barrett, except for the religion thing. Apparently Barrett's wife was Islamic, so he converted to please her. I can see it. But your points about Fetzer and the name of his radio show are spot-on.

I don't care what religion Barrett practices. I work with a few Muslims, and I wouldn't disbar them from being "western" just because someone else who follows their faith has decided to set off bombs in my country - bombs which tend to kill as many Muslims as they do anyone else. (The recent examples in Britain of al-Qaeda sympathisers either plotting to kill or justifying the killing of British Muslim soldiers shows that Islam isn't a monolith) It would be like accusing all Christians of being mass-murderers who support the use of child soliders because of Joseph Kony's activities in Uganda.

No, my real beef with Barrett is that he bends over backwards to appease the murderous medievalist quotient in his chosen faith, and uses hilariously stupid lines of reasoning such as artists being more qualified than physicians to study the WTC collapse because that wily physics was put there by the gubmint to lead us astray. Or the other one about every single act of Islamic terrorism in the history of the Middle East being a false flag operation. Much meatier stuff to attack him on; when what he says is belief-beggaringly idiotic, why bother having a go at him because of who he is?

The religion thing is an interesting element in the equation. Frankly, I'm disappointed that the Bush administration hasn't used it to their advantage. Everyone knows that CAIR is a joke, and that it's primary mission is to serve as apologists for Islamic extremism in the west. So why not replace them with something better? How hard would it have been for the Bush admin to gather influential, mainstream Muslim leaders from around the US, and offer them funding to form a group which could serve as a counterweight to CAIR and the militant Imams?

The fact that these extremists chose Islam as the basis of their ideology gives us an opportunity that we never had when fighting non-religious ideologies like communism and Nazism. Why not exploit that opportunity?

Pat,

Thanks Pat for reminding me about Barrett's wife (Islamic). I think that I had read that, and promptly forgotten.

I agree that info puts a slightly different spin on it.

Alex raises a very good point. The British government has just pledged £5 million to counter extremism within the Islamic community - whether it gets used wisely or not is another matter, but it's a good start.

Countering extremism in another country (like Iraq or Afghanistan) can be very difficult, because we're the outsiders. But persuading people who live in our own countries that the Western democratic system is the best available should be easier, and we should be putting more effort into it than we are now.

And as a atheist I can't understand why anyone would buy into the church of 911 truth?

This silly truther "Investigate 911" bull is he same as the creationists and their goofy "Teach the controversy" stance.

Have you noticed the anti science "don't believe the experts" feeling that permeates both creationist and truthers?

That's the thing I find ironic. So many atheists and agnostics are SO proud of themselves for "not believing in that religion nonsense". In fact, they're so secure in their feeling of superiority that they become easy prey for all sorts of scams and conspiracies. After all, since they're so smart, they couldn't POSSIBLY fall for a scam, right?

I'm not religious either, but if I had to chose between religion and the cult of 9/11 denial, I'd be in church every day. At least religion doesn't bother making scientific claims most of the time - they admit that their beliefs are based entirely on faith. Twoofers aren't nearly as honest.

i do not see your point. it is hard to tell how many there are in the lower photo because it has different prespective. but it is much more than small group in foreground.

you need different pictures to make the point you want.

Not really. You can see that there are not a lot of people behind the truthers. If there really were more truthers then you think they would have the brains to actually frame the picture to include them.
