Ruppert Pans Nano-Thermite; Branded an Agent

Over at his blog:

How does the scientist concerned, Niels Harrit (Is he a Ph.D? There's little sign of it) know that there was ten to a hundred tons of nanothermite in the World Trade Center debris? Who found it? Where is it now? The debris was removed to Fresh Kills in Staten Island as well as to Third World countries ASAP. Is Harrit just assuming there was ten to a hundred tons (give or take an order of magnitude) because that's what he thinks it would take to demolish the buildings?

He says the nanothermite was discovered "by chance" a short while ago. What kind of chance is it when scientists beg for dust samples for years so they can test it for said nanothermite? Every couple of months I used to get their emails. I never complied because the science would not have been valid; the chain of custody was broken. And mind you, the requests were for a few measly samples, not ten to a hundred tons. All of this, by the way, ignores the myriad scientists (Millette, Lioy, Yiin....) who, whether well-intentioned or not, were studying the dust for pollutants.

That part is actually written by his co-blogger, Jenna Orkin, but as Rupper does not disavow it, over at 9-11 Blogger, the condemnation is swift and angry:

Now I'm not so sure that Ruppert ever really quit working for the man...

I used to consider Ruppert the best researcher out there. Until today. What a devastatingly stupid display of ignorance and bias.

But there is some blowback against labeling Ruppert as an agent:

If you make room for extremists like Alex Jones you should be able to deal with, if not like, the opposite extreme. Someone who won't get anywhere near speculation.

Glass houses, stones. Orkin closed her discussion of nanothermite with this:

Harrit is either a loony patsy or pure disinfo.

Still More Hoffman

Here's the final segment of the Hoffman/Arcterus interview; I have not bothered to listen to parts 5-7, because it all seems to be the same.

Where Hoffman goes off the rails is on the assumption that certain theories he finds nutty are being pushed forward by forces malevolent to 9-11 "Truth". The reason that certain nutty theories are being pushed forward are that small "Truther" factions have formed around individual aspects of 9-11. So you've got your folks who think the missile at the Pentagon is the best evidence. You've got others (like Hoffman) who insist it's controlled demolition. You've got others who think Val McClatchey's photo proves inside job, or North of the Citgo, or video fakery. And they're all convinced that they've proven it beyond a reasonable doubt.

They're all paranoid nutbars, of course, which is why Hoffman, despite seeming more sensible than, say, Aldo and Craig, is still convinced that people pushing the theories he disagrees with are government agents, not just paranoid nutters like himself.

If anybody bothers to listen to parts 5-7, I'd like to know if Arcterus ever asks Hoffman about a debate between him and Mark (Gravy) Roberts. I confess that I can only take Hoffman in small doses.

Accused 7/7 Co-Conspirators Acquitted

Details here:

Three men - Mohammed Shakil, Sadeer Saleem and Waheed Ali - have been cleared of helping the July 7 bombers plan their attacks. The three men, all from Beeston in Leeds, who have been acquitted by a jury, were the only people ever to be charged in relation to the bombings of July 2005.

There seems to be little doubt that they are terrorist sleazeballs:

All three had also been on training camps in Pakistan with Mohammed Sidique Khan, the leader of the bombers, the last just months before the attacks.

Two of the men, Waheed Ali and Mohammed Shakil, were convicted of conspiracy to attend a place used for terrorist training after they were arrested on their way to Manchester airport in 2007.

The question was whether an earlier trip to London was a reconnaissance mission as the Crown claimed, or simply an unconnected outing to the big city.

As always when reading about the 7/7 tube bombings, my next visit was to Rachel North's blog. Rachel was on one of the bombed subway trains that terrible morning, so she's always on top of this story:

I respect the jury's decision, and having watched much of this trial the first time around, it was clear that this was always a circumstantial case and a hard one to build. The police have done an enormous amount of work in investigating this matter, for which they are to be congratulated and it was only during this trial that some of their work could be shown in public for the first time. I am sure many police have felt just as frustrated as I have, knowing that much of their discoveries could not be shown until this trial was over.

But she is scathing as she talks about what the government did or should have known about people like Mohammed Siddique Khan, the ringleader of the attacks:

We now know that the lead bomber, Mohammed Siddique Khan, was followed home by M15 in a car registered to his wife, to his home, where he lived, at least twice. He was filmed and photographed on several other occasions, taped talking about jihad, his plans for 'ripping the country apart economically as well', before going on a 'one-way' mission. He was caught talking about jihad, having meetings with terrorists weeks away from planning to detonate a huge fertiliser bomb. he was known to have committed a GBP 20, ooo fraud against Jewsons, a British company. He was no unknown: he should have been flagging code red, with his history of attending terrorist training camps, his terrorist friends, his plans for economic criminality and one-way tickets to jihadi missions. Especially as by then, it was known that UK men were training abroad and then going on suicide missions, and that some UK men, trained abroad, were returning to their homeland and planning to bomb the UK. They knew all that, the security service. The police had even undergone Operation Kratos training to kill suicide bombers on the UK's streets. So yes, whether MSK could have been arrested prior to 7/7 is painful to contemplate.

Rachel closes with a call for an independent investigation of the bombings:

An inquiry independent of the government and the security services and the police, with the power to compel and cross examine witnesses, go through evidence in detail, and write a report and recommendations which will be acted upon and so, we hope, save lives and spare suffering in future. This is what we have asked for, for over three years now. We have been prevented from having one because of the legal processes - the trials that have followed 7/7, as a result of which some men have been jailed for planning terror offences and others have been acquitted. Now those trials are completed, we are still waiting.

My attitude may surprise some of you. I support 100% Rachel's call for an independent inquiry (although I don't know how it can be completely independent of the government and still have the ability to compel testimony). What's the difference between this and the "Truthers" call for another 9-11 investigation?

We've had our 9-11 Commission. It did a terrific job of explaining what happened. The victims and survivors of 7/7 deserve the same.

Bentham Editor Resigns over Steven Jones' Paper

Looks like the "peer-review" didn't include the editor:

"They have printed the article without my authorization else, so when you wrote to me, I did not mean that the article was published. I can not accept, and I have written to Bentham, that I withdraw myself from all activities with them, "says Marie-Paule Pileni, which daily is a professor specializing in nanomaterials at the prestigious Université Pierre et Marie Curie in France .

The language sounds a little stilted, but it's translated from the original (Danish).

Update: A translation of the article from Steve S, one of our commenters:

Editor in chief resigns after controversial article on 9/11
28 April 2009
From videnskab.dk ( Danish science news service)

An article on explosives in the World Trace Center was published in a scientific journal without the editor in chief knowing about it. Now she is resigning, she tells Videnskab.dk ([science.denmark])
By Thomas Hoffman (th@videnskab.dk).

It created a great attention, surprise and suspicion when the Open Chemical Physics Journal in April published a scientific article on remains of nanothermite which were found in great amounts in the dust from the WTC.

One those most surprised is apparently the editor in chief of the journal. Professor Marie-Paule Pileni first heard about he article when videnskab.dk wrote to her to ask for her professional assessment of the article’s content. The e-mail got her to immediately close the door to the journal.

“I resign as the editor in chief”, was the abrupt answer in an email to videnskab.dk

PRINTED WITHOUT PERMISSION
A telephone call reveals that editor in chief Marie-Paule Pileni had never been informed that the article was going to be published in The Open Chemical Physics Journal, which is published by the journal giant Bentham Science Publishers.

“They have printed the article without my permission, so when you wrote to me, I did not know that the article had appeared. I cannot accept this, and therefore I have written to Bentham that I resign from all activities with them”, explains Marie Paule Pileni, who is professor with a specialty in nanomaterials at the renowned Universite Pierre et Marie Curie in France.

She feels not only stabbed in the back, but is puzzled that the article on dust analysis following the terror attack on the U.S. on 11 September 2001 could at all have found its way to the Open Chemical Physics Journal.

“I cannot accept that this topic is published in my journal. The article has nothing to do with physical chemistry or chemical physics, and I could well believe that there is a political viewpoint behind its publication. If anyone had asked me, I would say that the article should never have been published in this journal. Period.” Concludes the former editor in chief.

FAILING GRADES TO THE JOURANL
The editor-in-chief’s dramatic departure gives critics additional reason to doubt the article’s conclusions, but Marie-Paule Pileni points out that because the topic lies outside her field of expertise, she cannot judge whether the article in itself is good or bad.

Nevertheless, the publication gets her to give the Open Chemical Physics Journal failing grades.

“I was in fact in doubt about them before, because I had on several occasions asked about information about the journal without having heard from them. It does not appear on the list of international journals, and that is a bad sign. Now I can see that it is because it is a bad journal”, says Marie-Paule Pileni and continues:

“There are no references to the Open Chemical Physics Journal in other articles. I have two colleagues who contributed to publishing an article which was not cited anyplace either. If no one reads it, it is a bad journal, and there is not use for it”, is the harsh verdict.

The professor informs us that a few years ago she was invited to be editor in chief of a journal which would open new possibilities for new researchers and because she supports the idea of open access journals where the articles are accessible to everyone, she said, “Yes” thank you.

“It is important to allow people to try and gain success, but one should not be allowed to do everything, and all this is certainly a bunch of nonsense. I try to be a serious researcher, and I will not have my name connected with this kind of thing,” concludes Marie-Paule Pileni.

DOES NOT CHANGE THE INVESTIGATION
The editor-in-chief’s decision is viewed as regrettable by the Danish chemist Niels Harrit, who is one of the authors to the controversial article on nanothermite in the dust from the WTC.

“It surprises me, of course, and it is regrettable, if it discredits our work. But her departure doesn’t change our conclusions, for it is a purely personnel related thing she his angry about. I still believe that we have carried out chemical physics, and if there is something wrong with our study, she is welcome to criticize us for it,” says Niels Harrit, Associate Professor at the Institute of Chemistry at the University of Copenhagen.

It is Niels Harrit’s coauthor Steven Jones who was in charge of contact to Bentham, and therefore the Danish researcher is presently not aware which responsible assistant editor the group has been communicating with.

However, he does know the names of the two researchers –so-called referees—who have reviewed he article, but he will not give their names because they ‘are in principle anonymous’.

DANE WITHDREW FROM THE JOURNAL
Niels Harrit’s superior at the University of Copenhagen, Nils O. Andersen has himself participated in the pool of researchers who could be selected as editor, on an article which should be published in The Open Chemical Physics Journal. He has recently chosen to resign from the journals Editorial Advisory Board.

He informs videnskab.dk that the decision has nothing to do with Niels Harrit’s article, and that he otherwise did not achieve having any experiences with the journals, so that he cannot shed further light on how the journal operates.

“Open access is an exciting development, and as a principle the idea should be tried out for there is no reason for the commercial publishers to earn money from our work. But professionally, the journal lay at the margin of my expertise, and as I had said No to be editor of two articles, I decided that I would not use my time on anything else.”, explains Nils O. Andersen, dean of the faculty of Natural Sciences and editor of the European Physical Journal D.

It has not yet been possible to get any comment from Bentham Science Publishers.

Thanks, Steve!

Don't Try This At Home

Jonathan Kay, whom we linked to about 6 months ago, goes to a Richard Gage lecture to get material for a book and finds out the negative about bringing a friend along:

And the movement is attracting new recruits, too. Once he'd finished his lengthy presentation last Saturday, Gage conducted a second poll of the room. This time, when he asked how many people supported the "official theory," mine was the only hand raised. Shocked, I turned to the friend sitting beside me.

After three hours in a room with Richard Gage, she'd changed her vote to "not sure."

Don't laugh; the Stockholm Syndrome is alive and well. Believe me, to folks who are not accustomed to seeing 95% of the Truthers' claims go up in smoke with a simple Google search, the presentation that Gage makes can be quite compelling. It is hard for anyone to believe that Gage could possibly be lying his way through a three-hour (egad!) presentation.

Hat Tip to my old buddy Rob Breakenridge up in Calgary. Rob, I have it on authority that your local Calgary Truther Nathan Moulton (famed for his K-Mart broadcasts) is going to be putting out his own 9-11 Troof movie in the near future.

Loose Change Reviewed on Skeptical Broadcast

Wow, this was terrific. Rebecca Watson of the Skepchick Site appears on a podcast (4/23/09 show if you're coming across this much later) discussing Loose Change. She does a great job of talking about the various iterations of the film, and notes the many pieces of "evidence" that were dropped by the wayside with no explanation as the film morphed over the years. The hosts are very knowledgeable about the topic as well.

The only negative is that Loose Change is only the second half of the show, so you have to skip ahead about 15 minutes if you want to listen to the Loose Change segment only.

Thanks to 9-11 Real Truth for pointing this out in the comments. On the email situation, you cannot imagine what my inbox for SLC looks like; Truthers have signed me up for every bulk spammer everywhere and there's no way to solve that problem. If you want to contact James or me, use the comments; we read and respond to those much, much quicker than we do to emails.

Quick Hits

Nothing much going on these days in 9-11 Troof; half of the sites seem to be talking about the swine flu situation.

I am becoming more convinced every day that We Are Change is moving towards becoming more of a paramilitary militia group. Despite Luke's claims of being inspired by Gandhi, it was reported that when the cops confiscated his camera at the Bloomberg event a few weeks ago, they found film of him shooting at a firing range. Yesterday, (I have been told) Robert Wanek was on the We Are Change live show talking about how he almost didn't do the show yesterday because he was busy shooting at a firing range. I've said it before and I'll say it again; these kids are going to become the modern Weather Underground.

Buchanan Forum Has Long Discussion of "The Holocaust"

Complete with the scare quotes:

Do you know that THE JEWS have a million dollar fund just to protect their claims, and counter any of others.

Most historians believe it was LOGISTICALLY IMPOSSIBLE TO GAS 6 MILLION JEWS AND REDUCE THEIR BODIES TO ASHES,

That is why the claims have been adjusted.

Of course, it's a forum and Buchanan probably never looks at it, but the thread on the topic was reportedly approved by someone higher up the food chain than a simple poster:

“Rodfish” –I recognize your concerns. Before even establishing this “thread” I requested permission from the Site Admin. Discussing “The Holocaust” is prevented by law in Germany and several other nations. Why should this be ? Did the Holocaust really occur? Why have millions of people been convinced that the Germans executed 6 million Jews. Flimsy or none existent evidence supports this ridiculous claim yet people believe it.

Zionist-Jews control most of our law enforcement systems here in America. Tremendous effort is expended to prevent any action that could expose “The Holocaust” myth.

(Bolding added for emphasis)

The thread goes on for pages with only a few adults scolding the kiddies.

The Obama Deception Debunked Part III

Starting at about 20:00 in. Alex and some of his buddies are at the 2006 Bilderberg conference. A "reporter" claims that the concern is that with the housing crisis the people were reluctant to invest, so therefore they were going to pump the "market" (presumably the stock market) back up to 1998-99 levels and then implode it. Muahahahahaha!

Note particularly that Obama rarely comes up over the next 20-30 minutes. In fact, in one of the few tie-ins to Obama in this segment, Jones tries to convince people that the Obama/Clinton meeting in June of 2008 (after the primaries) was part of Bilderberg.

Earlier, reporters on Obama's press plane learned that the presumed Democratic nominee for president was not aboard when it departed Virginia, where he had been campaigning. Aides said staff members "scheduled him some meetings" in Washington.

The meeting originally was believed to be at Clinton's D.C. home, but sources later said the two met elsewhere in Washington.

Jones goes on and on about this secret meeting as if it was some sort of skullduggery. For chrissakes, they had just finished a long and brutal year of campaigning and they had to find some way to bury the hatchet. Of course they didn't want the media tailing them!

Cue spooky music as Alex heads to the Marriott where the 2008 Bilderberg meeting is to take place. Jones is to stay there for two nights before being "kicked out" for the Bilderberg group. Of course, his reservation was only for two nights anyway, right?

This segment does have the moment of high drama so far as Alex bravely remains in his hotel room despite a fire alarm to give a radio report to George Noory of Coast to Coast AM. I also love that Alex is freaked out because despite being undercover he's being followed everywhere. Maybe his cover was blown by his goofy InfoWars tee shirt?

Next we get the protests at the Bilderberg group. Luke shows up in his $2 suit from Goodwill, as does Abby (whatever happened to her?) from the San Diego wing of the nutbar brigade.

"There's Bernanke, man! Bernanke, you're going down!"

Webster Tarpley reappears to talk about the Trilateral Commission, which he claims ran the Carter White House. Of course the Trilateral Commission was whose old bogeyman? That's right, Lyndon LaRouche.

Jones next goes to that well-known foreign policy expert, Professor Griff of the rap group Public Enemy. Good god, what's next, Vanilla Ice?

Jones claims that Barry Goldwater warned against the Council on Foreign Relations in his 1964 book With No Apologies. Problem #1; With No Apologies was written in 1979.

Goldwater continued in the Senate where he opposed the policies of Jimmy Carter but was an enthusiastic supporter of Ronald Reagan. In later life, Goldwater published two books, The Coming Breakpoint (1976) and his autobiography, With No Apologies (1979).
That Goldwater opposed the Trilateral Commission is hardly controversial.

Jones goes on to present his supposed organizational chart of the New World Order, with Bilderberger at the top, Trilateral Commission in the middle and the Council on Foreign Relations running the show in the USA.

Obama appears to be returning at this point, so I'll break here (about 37:00 in). Note that he has only appeared tangentially for about the last 18:00; indeed, if it hadn't been for the claims that he was at the Bilderberger meeting and that he was the puppet for the NWO, he would have been absent completely for almost half the movie by now.

The Obama Deception Debunked Part II

I'm going to go into a little more depth at this point. The first eight minutes or so I have already covered in my initial post; Jones makes very few claims here and mostly has dolts like Jesse Ventura and Joe Rogan pushing his argument.

First unfair bit: About a minute in, they show somebody talking about "Where did you come up with the number $700 billion." The answer is indeed a little shameworthy:

"It's not based on any particular data point," a Treasury spokeswoman told Forbes.com Tuesday. "We just wanted to choose a really large number."

But the real shame is that the quote comes from September of last year, when the Bush Administration ran the show. So here we are a minute into the movie and they're trying to blame Obama for things that the Bush Administration did and said? Ditto with the bit a few moments later, where the congressman mentions that there were claims that martial law would result if they didn't vote for the bailout package. This is invalid because a) it happened under Bush and b) it wasn't a threat by any means, just typical political hyperbole about the reaction from the "people" if the stimulus bill wasn't passed.

Webster Tarpley appears to make the claim that the New World Order (ooga booga!) is secretly a plot by the British Empire and the American Empire to unite the globe, but by calling it the "New" World Order they make it sound like it ain't the same as the old boss.

We meet Gerald Celente, a supposed "trends" forecaster, who says that all of American history has been about the people resisting the central banks. Who knew?

Well, Alex is about to inform us. We learn that:

Agents of the Bank of England attempted to assassinate President Andrew Jackson on multiple occasions because of his resistance against a private central bank.

Actually an unemployed English housepainter attempted to assassinate Jackson on one occasion but both his guns misfired and reportedly Jackson gave the man a good thrashing with his cane. The Bank of England surely had better assassins than that?

The part that is true of course is that Jackson was an opponent of the Bank of the United States and the housepainter (apparently) a supporter. But it does leave one to wonder why it's the Bank of England that Jones thinks was behind it. Maybe because the Bank of England is still around to get everybody to say ooga-booga? Also this ties in with Tarpley's former LaRouche connection; LaRouche was famous for thinking the Queen of England was behind the drug trade.

Celente returns to give a bogus quote from Abraham Lincoln:

I see in the near future a crisis approaching. It unnerves me and causes me to tremble for the safety of my country. The money power preys upon the nation in times of peace and conspires against it in times of adversity. It is more despotic than a monarchy, more insolent than autocracy, more selfish than bureaucracy. It denounces, as public enemies, all who question its methods or throw light upon its crimes. I have two great enemies, the Southern Army in front of me & the financial institutions at the rear, the latter is my greatest foe. Corporations have been enthroned, and an era of corruption in high places will follow, and the money power of the country will endeavor to prolong its reign by working upon the prejudices of the people until the wealth is aggregated in the hands of a few, and the Republic is destroyed. I feel at this moment more anxiety for the safety of my country than ever before, even in the midst of war. God grant that my suspicions may prove groundless.

Ooga-booga, the evil banks. Except that Lincoln never said this; it was debunked in an 1896 letter to the New York Times. Snopes also deals with the second half of the quote here. Note as well that Celente claims that this was why Lincoln was really killed.

Tarpley claims that Obama's inner circle is made up entirely of Wall Street insiders:

"Nobody from heavy industry, nobody from the auto sector, nobody from Silicon Valley, nobody from big oil, nobody from defense, no labor, no women, no retirees, no small businessmen, nothing. It's pure Wall Street."

Of course, Secretary of Energy Steven Chu is from Silicon Valley, and Hillary Clinton is allegedly of the female persuasion. So is Hilda L. Solis of Labor, nominee Kathleen Sebelius of HHS, and Janet Napolitano of DHS. If anything Obama's cabinet (like most presidential cabinets) is made up of politicians not Wall Streeters; Sebilius, Arne Duncan, Gary Locke and Napolitano are former governors while Clinton and Ken Salazar are former Senators. Solis was formerly in the House of Representatives.

Jones reports that before he died Woodrow Wilson regretted instituting the Fed. Jones does not give the full quote, but Salon debunked this awhile ago:

John M. Cooper, a professor of history at the University of Wisconsin, and the author of several books on Woodrow Wilson, writes:

"I can tell you categorically that this is not a statement of regret for having created the Federal Reserve. Wilson never had any regrets for having done that. It was an accomplishment in which he took great pride."

Tarpley returns to talk about how Kennedy was supposed to be a puppet but because of his "personal suffering" he started standing up to his masters and was going to (insert fantasy here) so they had to kill him.

Jones claims that Executive Order #11110, signed by Kennedy, started the process of dismantling the Fed. Wikipedia notes this is a common conspiracy theory claim about that order, which actually had to do with issuing silver certificates:

Silver certificates were printed without interest. The Order was for the Treasury to issue silver certificates against all silver held by the government which did not already have certificates against it. The Order was needed due to the passage of Public Law 88-36 which repealed the Silver Purchase Act and other related monetary measures. One result was that after the repeals, only the President could issue new silver certificates.

Update: See also here for a more thorough discussion of EO 11110. Kudos to commenter Ktesibios for pointing this out.

Jones also claims that Kennedy "had begun the process of pulling the troops out of Vietnam". This is a fantasy that was popular on the fringe left back in the 1960s and 1970s; somehow they managed to convince themselves that Kennedy, a hardline anti-communist, would not have gotten bogged down in Vietnam like Johnson.

Jones claims that the media are all using the term New World Order; this is actually true, although of course the media use it in the generally benign sense of a transfer of power from the GOP to the Democrats. He says that suddenly the Wall Street Journal is talking positively about a North American currency.

That stems from this single column by a Marketwatch reporter named Todd Harrison, who appears to be an Alex Jones fan from his column:

The New World Order is upon us, full of hope, promise and a fair amount of fear. In our recent discussion regarding the direction of our country, we noted the risks of catering to conventional wisdom and the implications for the U.S. dollar.

A columnist for the Financial Times called for a World Government! Ooga-booga! Rahm Emanuel admitted that they don't want to let the crisis go to waste. Kissinger mentioned the New World Order! Oooooga-booooooga!

You know of course how this goes. Take some idiotic mumbo-jumbo that politicians like to use a lot, and translate it to mean something evil. "Bipartisan support" from now on means that they want to turn us all into flesh-eating ghouls. So the next time you see Ted Kennedy talking about bipartisan support for his next bill, get your shotgun loaded because the zombies are going to be popping out of their graves at any moment. Oooga-boooga!

We are now about 20 minutes into the movie, and that seems to be a good time for a break.

News From the Blogosphere

I am a bit behind in my blogging, but just wanted to take a minute to point out some interesting new resources on the net. First, the creatively titled blog Ron Mossad with a couple of articles on Jones' supermagiconanothermite.

Apparently a Very Important Scientist (capitalized to illustrate the IMPORTANCE) has just published an article stating that unexploded nanothermite particles have been found within the dust particles at Ground Zero. This is just further proof that it wasn't big bad Islamic terrorists that brought down the towers...but rather the even bigger, badder United States government! You know the same government that guarantees these guys the freedom of speech to yell and scream about how it is a fascist dictatorship that destroys freedom everywhere it goes.

Secondly, a more general post on 9/11 conspiracy theories on the Deliverators:

The 9/11 conspiracists are breathtakingly inane in the same way as Intelligent Design: they assume that the complex series of events that produced the attacks was centrally directed by a single cabal. They ignore the fact that even in controlled scientific experiments there are outlying data points—exceptional cases which seem to contradict the larger findings, but whose explanations are either too subtle or too banal to be scrutable. In an uncontrolled historical event such as 9/11 these curious outliers are, of course, even more numerous. The 9/11 conspiracists seize upon these suspicious but fundamentally insignificant facts and arrange them—ignoring the much larger body of conventionally explained data—to produce "proof" of an alternative theory as to the event’s origins.

Good work guys, thanks for your contribution.

Welcome to April, 2009

I checked my Fender Custom Shop daily desk calender this morning, and I am pretty sure it said April 22nd, 2009, Earth Day at that. Troofers, however, always seem to think it is still mid-September 2001, and ignore everything we have learned since then. Take this post today on 911 Blogger:

On September 19, 2001 the Chicago Tribune reported that regulators around the world were investigating in attempts to discover if terrorists or individuals who knew of the upcoming events profited through the purchase of put options in financial markets. The 9/11 Commission conceded, “some unusual trading did in fact occur” however, it was claimed, “each such trade proved to have an innocuous explanation.”
The put options volume on Boeing and United Airlines were 4 to 5 times above the daily put volume data prior in the year. The data on record shows no similar trade volume was placed on any other airline stock symbol during the same period of time.

OK, that was 7 1/2 years ago. Might want to find some newer information. The poster continues:

The reasoning behind the Commission’s decision and why no charges were filed was due to the fact that 95 percent of the puts were purchased by a U.S. based institutional investor who was said to have been investigated thoroughly by the FBI and SEC and had no conceivable ties to al Qaeda. News and market analysts, as well as all of the supporting evidence suggests the parties who own these puts had to have had advanced knowledge of the attacks. While officially all of the trades placed in the weeks leading up to the attacks were found to be innocuous, the hard evidence and the exponential increase of put options suggests otherwise.

Hey, guess what, the 9/11 Commission released their internal memorandums on this several months ago. You can read it for free even.

A U.S-based investment advisor registered with the SEC purchased 2,000 UAL puts on September 6, constituting 96% of the volume. The SEC's Eric Ribelin and Andrew Snowden interviewed both the CEO of the advisor and the trader who executed the transaction. They received the innocuous explanation for the trade which is set forth in the SEC report. [See Report at 9 (explaining the advisor manages hedge funds with $5.3 billion under management, was pursuing a bearish strategy with respect to most airlines stocks in response to recent bad news announcements, and had actually purchased 115,000 shares of AMR on September 10, believing the negative information on AMR was already reflected in the price).]

Welcome to 2009.

When Will David Chandler Fix His Errors?

Our buddy Boloboffin at JREF caught a major error in this video by Chandler:

So in freefall conditions, as specified by Chandler, if the final velocity is 16 m/s, the descending section has only fallen 13.04 m, not 52.78 m.

Chandler pops in and acknowledges the mistake, but fails to admit that once the error is adjusted for the supposedly suspicious behavior of the material being ejected horizontally is explained away:

OK. I dropped a factor of 2 somehow. If that's "SPECTACULAR" you guys are awfully easy to entertain. There's a lot easier way to do the problem than all the work you went through, by the way.

Simply equate potential energy at the start to kinetic energy at the finish.
mgh=0.5mv^2. Solving for v you get v=sqrt(2gh).
For h=52.78 m, v=32.16 m/s.

I probably divided by 2 instead of multiplying by 2 inside the radical. I probably shouldn't do these things in my head. Let's make a deal. I'll concede when I'm wrong and you concede when you're wrong. That could lead to civil discussions.

LOL. Let's remember that this guy's supposed to be a high school physics teacher, putting together a video to prove 9-11 was an inside job, and he does the math in his head?

Chandler made the same mistake in an earlier video:

Bolo explains:

In the first part (second video posted here), Chandler talks a lot of crap about terminal velocity of this same piece of ejected material. In the second, he admits that it was crap -- but there is no correcting information on the first video. And that first video was supposed to be supported by the second. It's the same message given. The collapsing upper section had not reached the speed necessary to fling that piece of material out that fast, claims Chandler. The second video was supposed to prove that.

Instead, his own calculations show that the building could have obtained that rate of speed. Yet both videos remain up without corrections.

Note as well in the second video that Chandler mentions that the movie which turned him into a 9-11 Troofer was Eric Hufschmid's Painful Deceptions. I wonder if all those who've been promoting Chandler's work know that he came to the movement via a holocaust denier?

In summary, Chandler has done an excellent job here of proving that in fact the speed of the descending block is equal to the speed of the ejected material.

The point is not to laugh at Chandler for such basic errors. Actually that's untrue; we do have to chuckle at least a bit. But the real point is that in the interests of 9-11 "Truth", shouldn't Chandler correct his errors with a new video explaining how he was mistaken? At the very least he needs to take down the existing videos.

Update: Better still would be to annotate his video to note the mistake, as Boloboffin notes in the comments section.

Esquire Magazine on Conspiracy Theorists and Movies

Sounds about right to me.

The difference between the millions obsessed with Angels and Demons and the whack jobs denying 9/11 and the Holocaust says a lot about Obama's hopes for a new era of responsibility

Conspiracy theorists — 9/11 deniers, moon-landing paranoiacs, Cassandras of the New World Order — are the holy fools of our age. Things are not what they seem, they preach to us daily from their street corners and Web sites, and try as we might to ignore them, we can't help but soak up their toxic paranoia and narcissism in our best sellers and blockbusters.

Astro-Nut:: We Are Not Alone

What does this story have to do with 9-11 Troof?

(Edgar) Mitchell, who was part of the 1971 Apollo 14 moon mission, asserted Monday that extraterrestrial life exists, and that the truth is being concealed by the U.S. and other governments.

He delivered his remarks during an appearance at the National Press Club following the conclusion of the fifth annual X-Conference, a meeting of UFO activists and researchers studying the possibility of alien life forms.

Mankind has long wondered if we're "alone in the universe. [But] only in our period do we really have evidence. No, we're not alone," Mitchell said.

"Our destiny, in my opinion, and we might as well get started with it, is [to] become a part of the planetary community. ... We should be ready to reach out beyond our planet and beyond our solar system to find out what is really going on out there."

Answer: Edgar Mitchell is one of the proposed commissioners for Les Jamieson's NYC 9-11 Commission.

Jim Hoffman Theorizes...

And shows why theorizing is so discredited in the 9-11 Troof Movement:

Yep, explosive ceiling tiles. Now in fairness, he does note that these are not exactly something you can pick up at Home Depot:

All of the equipment is available off-the-shelf from commercial vendors or special operations supply depots except for the wireless explosive ceiling tiles, which have to be specially manufactured.

And Hoffman has figured out the time problem as well:

With workers swapping in new tiles at an average rate of two tiles per minute per worker, it takes a team of fourty workers 187 hours to retrofit an entire Tower. The work is performed in three weeks and weekends of night shifts, emptying one truckload per night, with the truck parking inconspicuously in the WTC subterranean parking garage.

Sounds completely credible to me. Then again, I am still waiting for that inheritance from my uncle who died in the plane crash that the nice bank manager told me about.

Get the Evidence to Fit the Conclusion

I noticed this earlier while reading Henry62s article in the previous post. In Jones' et al supermagiconanothermite paper, they discover the presence of sulfur, which apparently isn't in their current brand of supermagiconanothermite, so they dismiss it as contamination from the gypsum wallboard:

Prior to soaking the chip in MEK an XEDS spectrum was acquired from an area of the red-layer surface. The resulting spectrum, shown in Fig. (14), produced the expected peaks for Fe, Si, Al, O, and C. Other peaks included calcium, sulfur, zinc, chromium and potassium. The occurrence of these elements could be attributed to surface contamination due to the fact that the analysis was performed on the as-collected surface of the red layer. The large Ca and S peaks may be due to contamination with gypsum from the pulverized wallboard material in the buildings.

This reminded me of the fact that earlier they had been arguing that the presence of sulfur was proof of thermate. And sure enough, if you go back to Jones' original paper, the presence of sulfur is the smoking gun, and he dismisses the wallboard as the source.

Finally, sulfidation was observed in structural steel samples found from both WTC7 and one of the WTC Towers, as reported in Appendix C in the FEMA report. It is quite possible that more than one type of cutter-charge was involved on 9/11, e.g., HMX, RDX and thermite analogs in some combination. While gypsum in the buildings is a source of sulfur, it is highly unlikely that this sulfur could find its way into the structural steel in such a way as to form a eutectic or to cause sulfidation; experiments are always encouraged to test such ideas. The evidence for the use of some variant of thermite such as sulfur-containing thermate in the destruction of the WTC Towers and building 7 is sufficiently compelling to warrant serious investigation.

Our Italian Friends Take On Jones' Paper

Henry62 shows why he deserves inclusion on the short list of best debunkers of 9-11, with a look at the latest paper published by Steven Jones.

The paper also does not consider the chemical composition of the corrosion-proofing paints and of the vermiculite used as thermal insulation and soundproofing at the World Trade Center and extensively documented by NIST.
These products contain exactly the same elements and exhibit the same structural characteristics as the allegedly thermitic material found by the paper's researchers in their samples.

Great work by Enrico Manieri, aka Henry62 and terrific translation by Paulo Attivissimo. I admit that the discussion gets beyond my level of understanding but I am sure that Dr Jones will be interested in seeing this well-written, technical and substantive criticism of his paper.

Truthers and Birthers

Okay, here's a post for our liberal readers on the intersection of 9-11 Truthers and Obama birthers:

Their twin demonstrations worked as intended. Troothers walked away from the Democrats and went to the presidential campaign most friendly to them—that of Texas Republican Ron Paul. (An October 20 article posted on InfoWars even denounced Maher as “an apologist and advocate for the criminal cabal.”) With two short strokes the Democrats not only removed an albatross from their neck but hung it on the other party.

It didn’t take long for the word to get to the troother rank-and-file. As if ordered by Clinton and Maher, Pennsylvania Democrat Phil Berg, a former deputy attorney general, dismantled his website www.911forthetruth.com in October 2007. (It is now available only on the Wayback machine.) Berg is now a leading Obama ‘birther’ who has filed several bogus lawsuits challenging Obama’s eligibility even as he quietly pursues conspiracy-related 9/11 litigation.

I do think the article is a little unfair in the beginning; for the most part the liberals did not treat the 9-11 Truthers as friends; Daily Kos has had a standing ban against 9-11 Truther diaries since 2005. The Maher and Clinton incidents he points to were hardly a turning point; the Truthers were behind Ron Paul well before this, and were not some devious plot by Clinton and Maher to disassociate the Truthers from the Left. And he fails to note that in the general election, the 9-11 "Truth" candidate was Cynthia McKinney, hardly indicative of a swing to the right for the Troofers.

That said, the article does some terrific debunking on the Obama "birther" nonsense:

It is up to the Secretary of State or equivalent election officials of each state to ascertain whether a candidate for president of the Untied States is eligible to appear on that State’s election ballot. This is a process which was carried out in late 2007 as election officials prepared for the presidential primary season. All of the states—whether controlled by Democrat or Republican administrations—determined that Obama was indeed eligible to appear on their ballot.

He further notes that one candidate did not qualify:

Roger Calero, Presidential candidate of the Socialist Workers Party, openly states he was born in Nicaragua. He admittedly does not meet the Constitutional requirement that a U.S. president be a “natural born citizen.” As a result, the SWP was required to substitute the name of James Harris—a constitutionally eligible candidate—who appeared as the SWP candidate for President on the ballot in seven states (CA, CO, FL, GA, IA, LA, WA). The legally unqualified Calero was allowed on the ballot in his own name in six other states (CT, DE, MN, NJ, NY, VT). In 37 other states plus DC the SWP either did not seek ballot status or was denied a ballot position for other reasons.

Truthers Experience Rough Treatment at Hands of Tea Partiers

I mentioned at one point that the local branch of the 9-11 Troof Brigade were planning on trying to sell their message at the Tea Party. But what happened? Why don't we let them tell us in their own words:

And Ben there, the last poster, is the local Troof honcho; even Starvin' Blair Gadsby is only the assistant organizer.

Officially I'm appalled. Other than that I would simply point out that 9-11 Truth does not resonate at all with the types of people who would be at the Tea Parties.

The Obama Deception Debunked Part I

Since this movie was pushed by 9-11 Truth Groups at tea parties on Wednesday, and now is being advertised on both Rush Limbaugh and Glenn Beck's radio programs I thought I would discuss the film.

First, understand that the tea party crowd may enjoy the title, but they're really not the target market for this nonsense. This film is really aimed at leftist supporters of Obama, trying to peel them away, as anybody can tell very quickly.

For example, one of the early messages Alex Jones pushes is that Obama is just like Bush; not a sentiment likely to win converts on the right. He notes that Obama kept Gates as defense secretary; this of course is one of the things that conservatives would give Obama credit for.

The movie starts with KRS-One, apparently a famed rapper (dang, I knew I should have listened to that crap more). He gives a rather silly monologue about how Obama is the manager at Burger King. If you don't like your burger at Burger King, you can't just go to the cashier (which is the court system), you need to go above Obama the manager to the guy who actually owns the franchise. I'm thinking that the burger is the economy and the franchise owner is the New World Order.

Next we go to a group discussion including those noted deep thinkers, Jesse Ventura and Willie Nelson. Jesse tells us that politics is like pro wrestling; they may hate each other in front of the cameras but they're best buds when the red light goes off. This is relatively non-controversial; Orrin Hatch and Ted Kennedy apparently do get along famously in private life. But what Alex Jones is selling with this bit is that they're all secretly conspiring to do something nasty to us and just pretending to have political differences (which is completely untrue).

Now we get to the man that Jones is selling as his Obama expert: Webster Tarpley. Tarpley is a former Lyndon LaRouche follower; he was LaRouche's main man in Europe for decades, before being purged with the rest of the Baby Boomers in the late 1990s as LaRouche focused his hucksterism on Generation X.

I love the bit about 6:10 in regarding the end of "Posse Commentatus"; that's been a staple of kooks since forever, but most of them pronounce it right.

And indeed, much of the film could have been done by the LaRouche people; LaRouche often railed about the Trilateral Commission and the Council on Foreign Relations, two organizatons that along with the Bilderbergers get prominent play in the movie. Tarpley is also the usual cited source for the idiotic leftist claim that Prescott Bush was the banker to the Nazis, a ridiculous misreading of the actual facts.

Tarpley tells us that Obama's working for Wall Street, another claim not likely to win the Obama Deception believers on the right wing.

Then comes Joe Rogan. I mean seriously. So far we've had a rapper, a wrestler, a country and western singer, a LaRouche cult member and now we get the former host of Fear Factor? Oh, but he's got so much credibility because he's a mixed martial arts announcer! One of the usual faults of conspiracy theories is the "Appeal to Authority," but in this case Alex seems to be going with "Appeal to Celebrity."

Jones' first words (his voice is distinctively gravelly) should likely cause the conservative tea partiers to pop open their DVD players and scale the Obama Deception towards the garbage can.

"America in 2009 was desperate for change. The prior eight years had been a disaster."

Okay, seriously, is there any conservative that needs to hear more? But in case they do, I would like to point out that this video is produced by Alex Jones, who spent the last 7 years claiming that the terrorist attacks of 9-11 were a conspiracy planned and orchestrated by the Bush Administration. No matter how much you may hate Obama (and I see a fair amount of it), you don't like Alex Jones.

Some claims in the movie:

Obama told workers he opposed NAFTA, but he later sent word to Canada that he was just posturing. This is true, but hardly unusual for a politician.

For the most part, this movie is yet another recycling of Alex Jones' master conspiracy theory. Jones believes that the New World Order is upon us, that the upper classes are going to kill 80% of us, and enslave the rest. At least, that's what he sells to the idiots who subscribe to his site. Let me put it this way; Jones is competing with the nice gentleman in Nigeria who alerted you to that fortune the uncle you never heard of left behind in his bank before that unfortunate plane crash.

Jones should not appeal to sincere conservatives. Let me point out that because his target market is mostly the kind of disaffected twenty-somethings wandering around in black tee-shirts, he routinely disparages the police, talking about how they pick the dumb, evil ones purposely. Ditto with the military; Jones despises the US military. Oh, remember that guy who shot three cops in Pittsburgh a couple weeks ago? Big Alex Jones fan.

Observe the people that Jones cites as his experts; Webster Tarpley, a Lyndon LaRouche 9-11 Truther who's such a jerk that fully 3/4 of the 9-11 Truthers hate him. And what does Tarpley accuse Obama of? Not being a socialist or a communist. He's a freaking agent of finance capitalism, a creature of Wall Street.

Okay, the next conservative who thinks that Obama represents the capitalists on Wall Street can raise their middle hand.

So why am I posting this now? Because we're now getting an incredible surge in traffic over the Obama Deception. We really try to be non-partisan around here, but it is no secret that I supported John McCain for president in 2008, and I remain critical of Obama's performance, particularly on the spending side.

I will put up more detailed pieces debunking the film, now that I see the reception it is getting. But any conservative that wants to know what I think of the Obama Deception should know that it's a piece of crap, and relying on it for anything is likely to make you look like a fool to anyone with Google. Let me give a simple example. In the movie, we are presented with the following quote from Abraham Lincoln:

In fact, this is an old fraudulent quote. How old? It was debunked in an 1896 letter to the editor of the New York Times.

To our liberal readers, forgive me the political intrusion in the above post. I am trying to debunk a ridiculously stupid movie about Barack Obama that is apparently catching on with conservatives.

Update: Lotta gripes that I didn't debunk enough here; see that "Part I" part of header? This is just the broad brush. See Part II where I get into more specific debunking of claims in the movie.

Moron the Terror Timeline

Jeez, I almost feel bad about this one, but it's gotta be said. A number of months ago, I was looking into the claims of Barry Jennings, and I noticed that the Terror Timeline got this one right, while all the Troofers get it wrong:

Among them are Barry Jennings, a City Housing Authority worker, and Mike Hess, New York’s chief lawyer who is also a longtime friend of Mayor Rudolph Giuliani. The two had gone up to the 23rd floor headquarters of the Mayor’s Office of Emergency Management some time before 10 a.m., but found it empty. (It was evacuated at 9:30 a.m.; see (9:30 a.m.) September 11, 2001.) They headed downstairs but became trapped around the sixth floor by smoke and debris that filled the staircase as a result of the North Tower collapsing at 10:28 a.m.

But... you can probably guess what happened. The Timeline was edited after I posted about it debunking the Troofers. The page I linked to now reads:

Among these individuals are Barry Jennings, a City Housing Authority worker, and Michael Hess, New York’s chief lawyer who is also a longtime friend of Mayor Rudolph Giuliani. The two had gone up to the 23rd floor emergency command center of the Mayor’s Office of Emergency Management after the first attack occurred, but found it empty (see (Shortly Before 9:03 a.m.) September 11, 2001)

They then headed downstairs but became trapped around the eighth floor by smoke and debris that filled the staircase. After breaking a window and calling for help, they were spotted by firefighters outside. When the firefighters go in, they also find a security officer for one of the businesses based in the building, who is trapped on the seventh floor by the smoke in the stairway. Why this guard did not evacuate earlier, along with the rest of WTC 7, is unknown. All three men are escorted out of the building.

No mention of where the smoke and debris came from. No correction of Jennings' obviously wrong times.

Learn the lesson. If you debunk something using the Terror Timeline, take a screen cap of the page. What did I learn? That the Terror Timeline is as useless as Wikipedia for anything controversial.

Yes The New World Order Has Taken Over the Truth Movement

Hey, we thought we could beat you by laughing at you, but now comes Phase II:

Consider these facts:

1. All of a sudden, starting around late last fall, right when the stock market crash was going on, with a vengeance, the mass corporatist media began telling us that there is a New World Order and a coming world government. And since then, the mass media tells us either that this New World Order and coming world government is great, or they would tell us that it’s bad and it’s only about the bankers—they don’t tell us, for example, that it’s project of the occultist and militaristic corporatists behind the scenes, or that it traces back to Hitler—I didn’t hear Beck cover that story!

With all the zany things Beck has been covering (for example, his recent revelation that the back of the dime includes a fascist symbol), I could easily have missed his discussion of the New World Order tracing back to Hitler.

So what does the New World Order want with all the rioting? Well, there are several things. Firstly, this is part of the New World Order’s religious festival: spread as much mayhem, panic, misery and pure blood chaos as possible—this is a ‘work of art’ to the New World Order; it is like listening to Beethoven to them. Some of you may find this difficult to understand, but they attain their religious experience by this “theater”, as they often call it (remember Iraq was called a “theater” around the time of Shock and Awe? Notice the word “Awe” there, also).

Yes, apparently we get high on rioting. Anyway, this is a classic example of the paranoia of the Troofers.

FoxNews on the Dutch TV Trial

We covered this a week ago, but FoxNews added some details. Although in their defense, I must say that the European reality shows are better than ours. Well, at least the shower scenes are...

"If you compare all those videos with the man said to be bin Laden, you can see very obvious details that it's not the same person," Spong continued. "So there's a reasonable doubt that it's bin Laden on several videos."

Spong also cited bin Laden's poster on the FBI's "Ten Most Wanted" and "Most Wanted Terrorists" list, which includes no mention of 9/11. Spong argued that because the FBI did not list the events of 9/11 on the poster, it is proof that the U.S. government doesn't consider bin Laden to be the mastermind. That omission is often cited by conspiracy theorists as proof that bin Laden is not connected to the attacks.

FBI spokesman Richard Kolko said 9/11 is not mentioned on the posters because bin Laden hasn't been formally indicted in connection to the attacks. The poster mentions only his role in the U.S. embassy bombings in East Africa in August 1998 that killed more than 200 people, for which he has been charged. He remains a "suspect in other terrorist attacks throughout the world," according to the FBI's Web page.

Troofers Heckle McCain Again

I always find these amusing. The guy survived 5 years in a POW camp, but they think some teenager chasing him, calling him a New World Order shill is going to break him.

Firefighters Slam Firefighters for 9-11 Troof

Update: I see that LtTony, one of the good guys in that thread has noticed that we linked to it. If I can offer some assistance on Barry Jennings: It's useful to note that his times are basically off and this is the source of most of the confusion about his account. Jennings describes arriving at WTC-7 at about 9:00 and discovering it empty, but that was not the case, as the always useful testimony of EMS Chief John Peruggia notes. Peruggia arrived at WTC-7 after 9:03 (we know because he mentions hearing about the second plane hit while still en route), and probably not much earlier than 9:15 (because he mentions stopping in front of the Twin Towers to talk to Chiefs Ganci and Nigro). And when he gets to WTC-7 here's what he describes:

I reached 7 World Trade Center. We walked into the lobby and we were going up the escalators to the main level. I checked in at the security desk. As we reached the top of the escalators, there were lots of people running down the escalator on the promenade. I spoke to one of the Deputy Directors and as I was speaking with him, I believe it was Deputy Director Rotanz, who is a Fire Department Captain on detail over there, Captain Nahmod and EMT Zarrillo approached as well. They had indicated that the building was being evacuated.

That's nothing like what Jennings described, so it is obvious that Jennings arrived at WTC-7 much later than he thought, probably shortly after 9:30 or so when the OEM was evacuated. And once you understand that, what Jennings describes as an explosion is quite plainly the collapse of the north tower.

Update End.

Ah, this is a good one. A firefighter notes the existence of the Kool-Aid Brigade, and asks if anybody knows anything about the guy behind it. A couple firefighters chip in with some obvious mistakes in the FFF911T site:

And I'm sorry, but I have no respect for him as a professional when he promotres misinformation like, "Building #7 collapsed with no structural damage and miniscule fire damage. Why aren’t our fellow firefighters asking why?"

Well, KoolAid1, the leader of the FFF911T jumps in to try to win some converts:

For years I believed the "official story" and aggressively defended it. I read Popular Mechanics and watched all the specials that went over the cause of collapse. I refused to listen to my Lt., told him he was crazy, and should leave the country. I really didn't listen to any of what I thought were "whack jobs/liberals/9-11 twoofers" until a buddy of mine who is a West Point grad non-emotionally opened my eyes.

Yes, I am sure he knew to use the word "Twoofers" (which to my knowledge is mainly used at JREF as a combination of Troofers and "Woo" (unscientific beliefs).

One of the responders:

I just hurt myself. I fell off the chair laughing. This friggin' moron is lecturing ME about NFPA 921. ME!

You may not be here to name call and insult, but I am. You are a loser, pal. I challenge you to walk into any firehouse in NYC and spew this nonsense. Just make sure that you leave good info as to what you want done with your remains (not a threat, but a prediction).

And, just so I fit into your little model, here...I was standing with several hundred other fire fighters outside Manhattan Community College when 7 fell. I watched it, heard it, smelled it and saw it fall. You are 100% completely, totally positively wrong on every single count.

No one missed your first post. Most of us here prefer not to waste our time with people like you that simply prefer to stir the pot and dismiss the word of the true Brothers that were there that day have to say. Show me the masses of FDNY firefighters that stand with you. Come on I'll wait. there are roughly 12,000 of them. Why aren't they lined up en masse to back your position? Because when you face the true facts you end up looking like just another conspiracy wack job.

A bunch of the idiots do pop with the usual talking points. You can tell these "sock puppets" by the single-digit number of posts under their names.

The film was called “Loose Change” (2nd edition). The film brought up many compelling arguments against the “official” story of the events surrounding 9/11. Although I was outraged by such allegations, I felt that I needed to watch the entire film. After it was over, we talked and had some lively debates about the issues addressed. I was disturbed, yet determined to prove that this was all spin and “conspiracy theory”. I went home and spoke with my wife, telling her about the film and how much it bothered me. Over the next couple of weeks, I spent considerable time researching the information presented in the film.

And of course, didn't find out that Loose Change (2nd Edition) had more holes than a Swiss cheese sandwich.

It's a beautiful thread, one to savor. Our sincere appreciation to the firefighters who chipped in to let FFF911T know that they do not represent them.

Marketing Footnote 44

Clever bit by the makers of "Press For Truth"; they mention that they are working on a film about 'Footnote 44', which they see as the smoking gun in the 9-11 Commission Report. If you want to find out about Footnote 44, send them an email (so you get on their email lists of folks who might be dumb enough to throw some money their way) and they'll let you know the big secret.

In our original, unreleased interview with 9/11 Commission Chairman Tom Kean, he referred to the incident in question as "one of the most troubling aspects of our entire report -- that particular thing." Former White House Counter-Terror Adviser Richard Clark believes it is the particular area of 9/11 that strongly warrants further investigation. Famed CIA agent Bob Baer (basis for George Clooney's character in 'SYRIANA') has told us he concurs. So do "the Jersey Girls", the widows at the center of 'PRESS FOR TRUTH'. And according to Pulitzer Prize-winning author Lawrence Wright, "half of the Bureau" (the FBI) also believes something is terribly wrong here.

Update: As pointed out by James B in the comments, according to Pulitzer Prize-winning author Lawrence Wright, Osama bin Laden was behind the 9-11 attacks. Indeed, the prize was awarded for his book on the lead-up to the attacks, The Looming Tower.

To find out what they're all so worked up about, please email producer Ray Nowosielski at Ray@BandedArtists.com, subject: "Footnote 44". We have a teaser trailer and business plan available to those who appear serious about being involved with the project. If you don't help us make 'FOOTNOTE 44', those responsible for this cover up may never be held accountable.

Of course, there is one problem with this "teaser": Google. I took a quick look around for Footnote 44, 9-11 Commission Report, and sure enough solved the mystery:

Immediately after referring to the staff statement, Breitweiser focuses on Footnote 44 of the Commission report, which "proved that the CIA deliberately withheld information from the FBI about two of the terrorists who would go on to become 9/11 hijackers." The footnote indicates a CIA desk officer instructed an FBI agent not to send a cable with information about Khalid al Mihdhar and Nawaf al Hazmi to his colleagues at FBI headquarters.

Yep, it's the mystery that appears in virtually every 9-11 kook film.

Local Fruitcakes Plan to Distribute Obama Deception At ASU

I love that they use the 'A-Team' music as their theme music, although Mr T would probably call them "fools".

The Big Bang Theory

One of the authors of the recent super-magico-nano-thermite paper was interviewed on Danish TV recently. Most of it was the usual idiocy, but he also mentioned a new claim, that there may have been as much as 100 tons of nanothermite in the 3 towers that collapsed. 100 tons. OK, well this is what less than 10 tons of conventional explosives looks like when detonated, and keep in mind that these guys claim that nano-thermite is more powerful.

Slate Backs Up Conspiracy Theorists, Cites American Free Press

What a lame article by "The Explainer":

Do other professions marshal their own expertise to poke holes in the official story? Absolutely. Architects and Engineers for 9/11 Truth point to the physics of the towers' collapse—its "free fall" pace, the "lateral ejection" of steel, the "mid-air pulverization of concrete"—as evidence that they could not have fallen exclusively because of the planes' impact. Pilots for 9/11 Truth have their own set of theories that focus on the planes' black boxes and flight paths, arguing, for example, that the hijackers of American Airlines Flight 77 would have had to perform an extremely difficult aerial maneuver to hit the Pentagon where they did.

The article regurgitates some of the usual idiocy from the troofers. The DeMasi claim of discovering the black boxes is spewed. Hilariously, the writer mentions that DeMasi's account is backed up by another first responder. And can you guess who he links to in order to prove this? Yep, that oft-cited source for 9-11 Troof and anti-Semites alike, the American Free Press.

His other sources:

Explainer thanks Mike Berger of 911Truth.org, Mark Fenster of University of Florida, Erik Lawyer of Firefighters for 9/11 Truth, and Barrie Zwicker.

Fenster wrote a book arguing that conspiracy theorists are not paranoid nutbars (while not embracing conspiracy theories either). The other three are certified kooks.

Dutch TV Show Exonerates Osama

Yet more evidence for the "Willie Nelson Hypothesis".

Dutch TV jury has found Osama bin Laden not guilty of the Sept. 11 attacks. In the conclusion Wednesday night to the show "Devil's Advocate" on Dutch public broadcaster Nederland 2, the jury of two men and three women, along with the studio audience, ruled there was no proof bin Laden was the mastermind behind the attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon in 2001.

The Netherlands, home to "Big Brother" creator Endemol, is known for being on the cutting edge of format-based television. But even for Dutch standards, "Devil's Advocate," from Amsterdam production house AVRO, pushes the envelope.

The show features star defense attorney Gerard Spong standing up for some of the world's worst criminals. In the latest show, Spong was able to convince the jury that bin Laden's connection to Sept. 11 was a product of "Western propaganda."

The jury also ruled there was insufficient evidence to prove bin Laden was the real head of terrorist network al-Qaida. However, the jury did rule that bin Laden is a "terrorist who has misused Islam."

Lauro Chavez Redux

A supposed radiologist tech who was a PFC at Ft. Meade is now alleging that she heard an order to shoot down United 93. This story is so bizarre that even Prison Planet, hardly known for skepticism and research, questions her story.

While the majority of the personnel on the base scrambled to protect the facility as part of standard operating procedure, Nelson and a colleague were offered up by their First Sergeant to act as assistants to the Commander of the Base.

“All the other departments of soldiers - the nursing department, the clerical, administrational department - everybody sent their base soldiers there and I didn’t see them anymore. So basically the hospital was not fully active at that point. Everything was on hold,” said Nelson, adding, “And so I remember the room that they took us into. And they told us that we were in charge of, you know, getting coffees, any kind of snacks from the cafeteria - not cafeteria, like from the snack machines or from the place where you can get little snacks - in charge of making photocopies because she and I had the access codes for the rooms, to get in there.”

Nelson and her colleague were sat at the far end of the room and told to face the wall as the meeting of top officials on the base commenced.

“And there was probably six or seven men around this very large table, just like you would see in a big office somewhere. And they had this funny phone. It was like a conference-call phone. And I remember them sitting there and they were talking through this phone. And it seemed to me that they were talking to one or two other places,” said Nelson, adding that she suspected the men were in contact with the West Point military base an hour north of New York City.

Uhh, yeah. I am sure it is SOP that any time there is a national emergency, Ft. Meade, an army base, grabs random personnel from their hospital and puts them to work fetching coffee for officers conducting air defense activities.

Here Come the Chemtrails

Obama's science adviser is floating a plan to combat global warming:

WASHINGTON (AP) - The president's new science adviser said Wednesday that global warming is so dire, the Obama administration is discussing radical technologies to cool Earth's air.

John Holdren told The Associated Press in his first interview since being confirmed last month that the idea of geoengineering the climate is being discussed. One such extreme option includes shooting pollution particles into the upper atmosphere to reflect the sun's rays. Holdren said such an experimental measure would only be used as a last resort.

As you may know, chemtrail kooks think that the government's been doing this all along.

Thermite, Meet Superthermite

One of the problems with the controlled demolition hypothesis is the fact that, well to be "controlled" in any manner after a plane crashed into the building you want to demolish, is a bit difficult. Massive fires of course would set off detonators and charges, burn up det cord, mess with any type of controls and cause general mayhem. Steven Jones has dealt with this question in the past by arguing that the conspirators used thermite, which is not actually used for demolitions, but for argument's sake we will assume that it is, and that it has a high ignition point.

It is important to note that initiating the thermite reaction requires temperatures well above those achieved by burning jet fuel or office materials -- which is an advantage of using thermite charges over conventional monomolecular explosives such as TNT, RDX and PETN. Below is a photograph of an experiment performed by the author and colleagues at BYU in which a sample of thermite was heated to orange-hot temperature (about 1700 oF). We demonstrated that the thermite reaction would not ignite at this high temperature. Later, the thermite reaction was triggered by burning a magnesium strip in contact with the thermite. An electrical superthermite "match" could have been used and remotely triggered via radio signal.

Well this still doesn't adress all the rest of the problems with a plane crash and massive fires in the middle of your controlled demolition, but now he has lost even this point, with his own paper ironically. From his new uber-super-nano-magic-thermite paper:

As measured using DSC, the material ignites and reacts vigorously at a temperature of approximately 430 °C, with a rather narrow exotherm, matching fairly closely an independent observation on a knownsuper-thermite sample. The low temperature of ignition and the presence of iron oxide grains less than 120 nm show that the material is not conventional thermite (which ignites at temperatures above 900 °C) but very likely a form of super-thermite.

Of course this is well within the range of a normal office fire. Well, good luck next time.

Glenn Beck and PM Take On the FEMA Camps

As previously promised. I haven't checked to see if they gave Alex Jones an aneurysm yet.

Arcterus Interview with Hoffman

I like that Hoffman starts out by saying that the proponents of "false theories" are mostly well-meaning people. I am listening to see if the topic of a debate with Gravy comes up.

Pittsburgh Cop-Killer Was An Alex Jones Fan

What a surprise--NOT!

Believing most media were covering up important events, Mr. Poplawski turned to a far-right conspiracy Web site run by Alex Jones, a self-described documentarian with roots going back to the extremist militia movement of the early 1990s.

Jones & Company Go the Vanity Publishing Route Again

The Raw Story runs with it:

A team of nine scientists have unearthed startling data from dust gathered in the days and weeks after the World Trade Center towers collapsed on 9/11. They discovered that scattered throughout the dust samples were red and gray chips of 'active thermitic material', or an un-reacted pyrotechnic explosive.

Here's the actual article itself; published again at the Bentham Open Journals, a vanity publishing outfit based in... wait for it... Pakistan.

Ongoing discussion of the article at JREF. I particularly recommend this post, which shows that the chemical signatures are not there.

Computer Exceeds Combined Intelligence of AE911Truth

When asked if it wanted to sign their petition, the robot reportedly responded, "Are you f___ kidding me?"

A laboratory robot called Adam has been hailed as the first machine in history to have discovered new scientific knowledge independently of its human creators.

Adam formed a hypothesis on the genetics of bakers’ yeast and carried out experiments to test its predictions, without intervention from its makers at Aberystwyth University.

The result was a series of “simple but useful” discoveries, confirmed by human scientists, about the gene coding for yeast enzymes. The research is published in the journal Science.

Core of Corruption Part 1 Released! NWO In Lockdown Mode!

I've watched about 20 minutes of it so far; looks like Elinoff is going for the LIHOP crowd with this one with lots of focus on the CIA and FBI. The dentist from Shreveport who claimed to have met three of the hijackers comes up; yet another conman whom Sander Hicks latched onto.

As usual with these films, there is a continuing effort to have it both ways. "The mainstream media won't tell you these things! Watch this clip from Dan Rather and CBS News!" It's kind of like the media report these things, but then realized they screwed up and so they never reported it again.

I hear that Richard Andrew Grove makes an appearance; that should be worth watching.

Update: Some clear BS starting around 31:00 into the film. Elinoff repeats the claim that Osama's family was flown out of the country while the rest of the country still could not fly. That is a lie, and hilariously, Elinoff demonstrates that a little later with a video clip of Osama's brother on the tarmac in Florida, "eight days after the terrorist attacks". But if Osama's brother was still in America on September 19, 2001, and flights resumed from most airports on September 14, 2001, then how in the world can Elinoff claim he was flown out while the rest of the country couldn't fly?

And it gets even worse. Elinoff claims that no questions were asked of the Bin Laden family. That is not true, and Elinoff knows it because later he highlights an FBI report which left open to interpretation the possibility that Osama himself chartered the family flight out of the country. But that FBI report also noted that the Bin Laden family members were questioned and only allowed to leave because the FBI was convinced they had no knowledge of the attacks.

Troofer Wars

Apparently nutcase conspiracy theorist Alex Jones and even bigger nutcase conspiracy theorist nutcase Jeff Rense are at war, over this article posted on some wacko anti-Semitic site accusing Jones of being a Zionist. A complete blathering moron yes, but Zionist is probably not the first thing I would think of. In this fight one seriously has to ask, can't they both lose?
