Jon Gold's Excellent Commission

Buried in a long profile of Gold in a Philly "alternative" weekly:

"It has to be away from the government. There has to be subpoena power, people have to be put under oath, which George Bush and Dick Cheney refused to do. I don't know, maybe an international body of some kind. It can't take place in D.C."

Well, now we know why Jon and Brian never answered the question in a recent thread of what sort of new commission would satisfy them. Don't you just love that? Here's a guy who's dedicated 10 years of his life to a movement and when asked what he wants he has only a vague idea. "I don't know, maybe an international body of some kind."

Here's a clue, Jon. Subpoena power and under oath mean the government, because each comes with an explicit "or else" attached: under penalty of arrest and prosecution.

I'll allow comments on this thread.

I'd like to see Jon Gold and his crackpot lawyer try some of their antics in the International War Crimes Court in the Hague. Those judges don't take kindly to bullshit.

Pat seems to forget (purposefully of course because he's just dishonest) the effort in 2004 to get Atty Gen. Eliot Spitzer to open an investigation, the effort in 2005 to get the United Nations to do it, the NYC Ballot Initiative that, if passed, would have created a commission. None of these efforts have panned out. Hence, "I don't know." I'm sure if the family members or someone manages to build a credible lawsuit, we may see something in a court room.

Why is there so much difficulty in building a credible lawsuit?

"Why is there so much difficulty in building a credible lawsuit?"

C'mon, it's only been 10 years. It takes time to put together a credible lawsuit. What do you think, you can just get a couple of lawyers together and file one?

Sheesh.

At 25 August, 2011 11:49, Blogger Jon Gold said...

Not hard at all. They have to be willing to go through with it. Despite Elena Kagan and Obama's latest setback regarding the lawsuit against the Saudis, the families are still trying to make that happen.

You guys don't really care though. As far as you're concerned, the cover-ups, lies, compromised and corrupt investigations are all ok.

So... keep on being dishonest Pat. It's what you do best.

If there's all this credible evidence against the Bush Administration, why would family members be unwilling to go through with a lawsuit?

It would help your credibility if you could suggest a body that meets that criteria, would be qualified to undertake such an investigation, and would have jurisdiction over the parties. "I don't know, it's somebody else's problem" indicates you haven't given it much thought.

It's good to see Martin Sheen has apparently come to his senses after nibbling on da twoof a few years ago.

He'll be narrating a documentary on 9/11 that will be shown next week.

Smithsonian Channel delivers a sturdy, powerful wrap-up with “9/11: Day That Changed the World,” which airs Sept. 5. This one feels the most complete, with a mix of footage, audio recordings and an unflinching look at the events, mixed with interviews with key players, including Dick Cheney, Donald Rumsfeld, Richard Clarke and Rudy Giuliani. (It is narrated, oddly enough, by Martin Sheen, whose job during Sept. 11 was to play fictional Democratic President Jed Bartlet on “The West Wing,” whom certain viewers came to regard as balm in a parallel universe of alterna-politics.)

Too bad his son is still a dishonest America-hating scumbag.

That is very revealing statement, snuggy.

In any case, I have my share of disagreements with American foreign policy, both before and after 9/11. However, there isn't a shred of credible evidence that this country attacked itself on 9/11, so I have no use for the twoof movement. At best it is a distraction, fortunately, not enough people buy into it to matter. However, it is an excuse for some who might otherwise offer useful criticisms of American actions to wallow in ideologically convenient bs.

"In the decade since 9/11, investigations by journalists and government commissions have explored the many missed opportunities to prevent bin Laden’s attacks.

Overall, it is the story of a catastrophic failure to connect the dots. One can argue—and many have—that the connections emerge more visibly in retrospect than they ever did as events themselves unfolded.

But the affair of the Afghan cell-phone network—put on hold until time ran out—falls into a category by itself. It was a course of action whose value and urgency were acknowledged by everyone, but it was impeded nonetheless.

The cell-phone plan “was one tool we could have put in Afghanistan that could have made a difference,” a former C.I.A. official says. “Why didn’t we put it in? Because we couldn’t fucking agree.”

Relative to what? I prefer the behavior of Americans now to that of Americans 100 years ago, when a black man could be lynched for looking at a white woman wrong, and 8 year old children worked in coal mines.

I wouldn't have expected you to consider these things, given that you're too stupid to mop floors and that you believe in invisible widows and magic thermite elves, but you're really setting yourself up to be pwn3d when you ask such idiotic questions, Brian.
