McCain & the Truthers, Round Two

I do wish he wouldn't frame the issue as one of free speech; he doesn't hesitate to decry the tone in Washington, which is also free speech. But again, he stands up strongly for the 9-11 Commission, and gets the right answer on the dissatisfied families. We only hear about them because the satisfied families have gotten on with their lives.

Maybe It's Time To Take Ron Paul Seriously

Nope, I'm not kidding. Rasmussen Reports shows Paul doing stunningly well in a hypothetical four-way matchup with Hillary, Rudy and Ralph Nader.

The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey found Hillary Clinton leading Rudy Giuliani by three percentage points in a four-way race that includes Ron Paul running as a Libertarian candidate and Ralph Nader representing the Green Party. The poll shows Clinton earning 42% of the vote while Giuliani attracts 39%. Ron Paul is the choice for 8%, Ralph Nader is preferred by 4% and 7% are not sure (see crosstabs).

The interesting thing is that Paul actually does better among Democrats than he does among Republicans:

Perhaps because of his position on the War in Iraq, Paul attracts more support from Democrats than Republicans. He also earns 14% of the vote from unaffiliated voters. Paul is currently seeking the Republican Presidential Nomination and is running sixth behind Giuliani, Mitt Romney, John McCain, Fred Thompson, and Mike Huckabee.

I have consistently trashed Paul's chances, because he never seemed to be registering in the polls. Okay, that's changed. He's still a longshot at best, particularly to get the Republican nomination. But he's not as much a longshot as he used to be.

Yet Moron the "Truther" Party

There are some times when I just shake my head in disbelief. Alex Floum, who is reportedly a lawyer, is talking up the possibility of some politician riding 9-11 nuttery to the White House:

If a candidate talked about real issues, like 9/11, and the Constitution, and fasiscm, he or she might do alot better.

What if Kucinich blew off the Democratic party -- which isn't supporting him -- and ran independent?

What if Ron Paul blew off the Republican party -- which isn't supporting him -- started talking about 9/11 truth, and ran independent?

Look, Ron Paul knows where his bread is buttered. If he started talking 9-11 Truth the folks who have supported him who are not 9-11 Deniers, would desert him in a heartbeat. He'd get less than the typical libertarian candidate.

This is where the stacked internet polls work against the movement. These people really believe that a majority of Americans agrees with them; check out this post for evidence.

Made a mistake few days ago when I suggested that the voice here was somehow the majority. To my surprise I was very wrong. It appears the views shared by majority of JREF members is very much an example of close minded minority. I very much enjoy bringing the following polls too the attention of the Blind.

MSNBC- Do you think the government was directly involved with the 911 world trade center bombing.

63% Yes
32% No
5% Not sure

CNN- last poll found 89% felt there has been a 911 cover-up

CNN- 56% Felt alternative "Conspiracy" causes were creditable

CNN- 60% were not satisfied with the 911 commission's investigations

CNN- 45% Blame the Bush Administration for 911 Attacks

I have pointed out many times that the internet polls on 9-11 CTs get linked at Alex Jones Prison Planet and 9-11 Blogger and other sites, and thus they get disproportionate response from the Blackshirts. One would think that they would notice that their local "Truth" squadron has about 5 members.

Don't get me wrong; I think the movement has some popular appeal; as I have stated earlier I can no longer believe that the percentage of the population infected with the "Truther" virus is less than 10%, and I could buy 20% on the high end. But most of them are 9-11 Deniers in the same sense that the 35% or so of the people who believe Elvis is alive are Elvis Deniers. Very, very few of the latter spend any significant amount of time looking for Elvis to prove their theory.

What Politician Wants the Screw Loose Change Endorsement?

Okay, after wincing at that John McCain video that James linked a couple of posts ago, I have decided it is time for Screw Loose Change to offer its endorsement for President of the United States of America. And we do mean offer! Screw Loose Change is prepared to endorse as a blog (and not James or me personally) the first major party political candidate that calls out these creeps on one of their videos. John McCain is our natural candidate; after all, he wrote the introduction to the Popular Mechanics book.

But when presented with a chance to nail it down, McCain instead opted for humor. Thus far, the only candidate who has even quibbled with the kooks mildly is Barack Obama. So our endorsement is up for grabs.

There is a way to battle these kooks without knowing the arcana that they bring up, and my suggested response to these people is along these lines:

"I know you think you're noble patriots, but you're wrong. What you claim is not only mistaken, but it's damaging to the country, damaging to our image both abroad and at home. If you had any real evidence against the Bush Administration, the press would have covered it; instead you have grainy videos and carefully selected and misleading quotes. I'm not going to get into the details of what you claim because it's been refuted time after time."

There is no significant downside to a Republican candidate taking on these kooks and denouncing them for what they are. For the right Democrat, this could be a Sister Soljah moment.

They Could Call It NincomPAC

Lord save us from these political neophytes:

It's time for us to start putting up some real MONEY. The best way to do this would be to get David Ray Griffin to oversee an account. We all trust him and believe he is wise and parctical. He could get plenty of help and make the spending 100% transparent. Congressional and presidential andidates that are in favor of a real 9/11 investigation get money. Candidates that are not infavor get ads targeting their stupid positions.

If anyone can get in touch with DRG and get him to agree to this, I am sure that many of us will be more than willing to send in one week's pay or better.

Well, let's see, there are 435 congressional races, which means there will be 868 candidates or so that will be getting negative ads targeting their "stupid" positions, and about two candidates who will be getting the money (Bob Bowman and Samm Sammison).
