SPLC Notes KBDI Crackpottery

In a terrific column.

Now, however, a mainstream media source is providing an uncritical platform for FEMA camp lore: KBDI Colorado Public Television aired the video “Camp FEMA: American Lockdown” twice last weekend and has scheduled another showing for March 13. The 90-minute film opens with newsreel footage of Japanese-Americans being forced into internment camps during World War II and then trots out conspiracy die-hards who suggest that freethinking Americans today may face the same fate. Those featured include syndicated radio host Alex Jones, who frets about one-world government at Infowars.com; longtime Patriot broadcaster John Stadtmiller, who insisted after the Oklahoma City bombing that the U.S. government was behind the mass murder; and James Lane of the Patriot group We Are Change, which does not believe that al-Qaeda perpetrated the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.

I love the ending:

But not everyone was happy. Jacob Gore of Aurora, Colo., who had been a small contributor to KBDI for a couple of years, told Hatewatch he stopped watching the station after it aired the Sept. 11 programs. “I can’t believe I’m seeing this on public television,” he recalls thinking at the time. In a comment posted on KBDI’s website, he also asked to be taken off the station’s mailing list. “I’m sure when sanity returns to KBDI,” he wrote, “I will hear about it through the usual channels (the microchip implanted into me by the government, of course.)”

LOL! No, we'll put the secret message in the chemtrails! ;)

Morons At Denver PBS Station

What could they have been thinking?

It was an act of unmitigated terrorism. On March 5, 2009, KBDI, a public television station in Denver, Colorado, ran Aaron Russo’s America: Freedom to Fascism during a fund raising drive. KBDI had notorious terrorist Gary Franchi of the Lone Lantern Society on to pitch for donations and talk about Russo and his landmark film.

Russo's nutty anti-tax film was just the tip of the iceberg:

In addition to Russo’s film, KBDI offered Alex Jones’ Endgame to folks making a donation to the station. Franchi said Endgame, Freedom to Fascism, The Money Masters, and other films offered by the station during its pledge are essential viewing. “These films are so important,” said Franchi, “this message is so important [because] our Republic is in peril right now… and it is these films, this message that needs to get to the American people.”

Somebody should get the word out to KBDI about the disservice they are doing their viewers by peddling this ignorant, right-wing trash.

Proud To Be the Kookiest PBS Station in America--KBDI, Denver

Here's a presser on their upcoming presentation of Press For Truth.

For starters, they use a picture of the Jersey Girls, featuring Kristen Breitweiser in front:

Except that Breitweiser does not appear in the film except in old TV clips, and the other three widows are actually the stars of the show (in addition to Bob McIlvaine).

That photo was used on the DVD cover for PfT, which we covered back in the dog days of 2006, but at least they had the decency to remove Mrs Breitweiser:

Following the attacks of September 11th, a small group of grieving families waged a tenacious battle against those who sought to bury the truth about the event -- including, to their amazement, President Bush. In this documentary, six of them -- including three of the famous 9/11 widows known as the "Jersey Girls" -- tell the powerful story of how they took on the greatest powers in Washington, compelling lawmakers to launch an investigation that ultimately failed to answer most of their questions. The filmmakers collaborated with the media group Globalvision (WMD: Weapons of Mass Deception, Beyond JFK) to stitch together overlooked news clips, buried stories, and government press conferences, revealing a pattern of official lies, deception, and spin. As a result, a very different picture of 9/11 emerges -- one that raises new, and more pressing, questions.

And if you pledge $104 to these Rocky Mountain Oysters, you'll get a DVD of PfT plus In Their Own Words, all the crappy questions that they had to pull out of PfT because they were even more ridiculous and embarrassing than the ones they left in.

But wait, there's more! If you send another $50, we'll send you David Ray Grifter's The New Pearl Harbor! Oh, we can tell that KBDI is an exemplary PBS network, representing the Rocky Mountain spotted feverish contingent proudly.

And if you are delusional enough to part with 304 bones to the nutbar network, you could actually get 5 DVDs plus two books. The added DVDs are Blueprint for Truth by Box Boy Gage, Fabled Enemas by Bermas, and a DRG lecture from 2007. Why mention the added book (a Peter Dale Scott snoozer), nobody's going to read it.

What a sad, pathetic little station KBDI is.

Patting Your Own Back

I haven't been doing much blogging yet, since I recently started a new job, which although financially beneficial has taken up much of my time and energy, but I have been following this whole thing about a PBS station in Colorado broadcasting the pseudo-LIHOP documentary 9/11 Press For Truth.

Now it appears that Jon Gold is all excited by this "breakthrough" and is hilariously bragging about the "tremendous amount of praise" that the station received as a result.

As most of you know, Colorado 9-11 Visibility and KBDI 12 recently showed 9/11: Press For Truth, and it was HUGELY successful. KBDI received a tremendous amount of praise for showing this important documentary.

He includes a link to this "tremendous amount of praise" which to no surprise, are mostly anonymous comments, apparently from the KBDI website. Just look through the comments that do have names though, and you will notice such people as Richard Curtis, from the Scholars for 9/11 Truth, who is also hosting the Richard Gage speech in Seattle later this month, Harold Saive from Florida, a frequent poster on 9/11 Blogger, and Crystal Urbanski, a 9/11 nutter from Boston. I seriously doubt that any of them are frequent viewers of PBS stations in Colorado.

Actually, given the fact that this received extensive promotion on all the major truther sites, including linking to the station's website, the fact that it only received 45 comments, is pretty pathetic. So in a country of 300 million people, they are praising themselves for managing to get a couple of dozen of their own people to make a comment on a website.

Crappiest PBS Station In America Gets Noticed

I was wondering if everybody in the Mile High City was, well, high. Apparently not.

I'm with the viewer who cancelled his KBDI membership and wrote, "What's next on the KBDI hit list, films about President Obama being a citizen of Kenya or about how health-care reform wants to kill your grandmother?"

It's nothing new for KBDI to staff the phone banks during pledge drives with supporters of whatever is on the air. Conservationists have been recruited to answer phones during nature broadcasts. Still, the arrangement raises questions about whether the station is making deals with interest groups to carry programming in exchange for pledge support.

Good to see somebody else noticed this disinformation being promoted on a PBS station.

KBDI Gets a Black Eye

The Troofers are crowing about Press For Truth getting repeat showings today on KBDI, the dumbest PBS station in America, but somebody in Aurora (a Denver suburb) noticed and called them on it.

Just two days later, KDBI – public broadcasting in Boulder, CO ran a fundraiser during prime time featuring a video entitled, 9/11 Press For Truth, which presents a completely one-sided screed against the Bush Administration, claiming that (it) knew the 9/11 attacks were coming and did nothing to prevent them. The program neglects to interview any senior Bush White House personnel or to even mention the relevant intelligence that was made available to the Clinton Administration.

Executive Producer Kyle Hence, Director Ray Nowosielski, and family member Bob McIlvaine – who lost his son Bobby in the attacks on New York – were in the KBDI studios and extolled their film throughout the evening. Additionally, volunteers from Colorado 911 Visibility were on hand to answer phones, although they appeared without their trademark tin foil hats.

KBDI Starts to Raise Some Eyebrows

Vince Carroll, a columnist at the Denver Post:

And how has the grand conspiracy, which the film suggests includes the major media, been kept under wraps all these years? Why has no one in this vast web of deceit developed pangs of conscience or second thoughts, or called in a film crew for a death-bed confession?

Anticipating such questions, Gage claims "the Manhattan project had thousands of people and was kept quite a secret for a very long time." By "very long time," he must mean the brief period before spies like Klaus Fuchs, David Greenglass and Theodore Hall began passing classified material to the Soviets.

And the PBS ombudsman:

Here's what one viewer from Alpine, Colo., wrote to me last week:

"I have a great respect for PBS and always listen to it when we are in our 2nd home back in Virginia. But I had occasion to listen to the KBDI station out of Denver CO tonight [Sept. 17] and was exposed to this nonsense about 9/11 essentially being a hoax.

"As a career army officer and Vietnam veteran I really do understand the tendency of my government to mould the truth to fit its political needs, but the garbage and pseudo science surrounding this particular PBS sponsored program does the entire PBS community a great disservice. It was presented during a station fund raiser which made it all the more incredible to me. The content was presented from one perspective and the local PBS commentators all but gushed over it as being the 'truth' incarnate. They looked out at us viewers with steely eyed sincerity and could have said our landing on the moon or the attack on Pearl Harbor was a government hoax and done it without blinking. Needless to say every conspiracy nut in the Nazi part of Colorado or in range of KBDI feels vindicated and the grassy knoll crowd and UFO buffs will be clamoring for air time. I have never heard such tripe from any PBS station and if you guys have any form of internal review for program content, you might want to give this one a real close examination. Shame on PBS for allowing these loonies to use the PBS moniker.

As usual, the kooks come out in the comments section.

Denver Crackpots Get On PBS

By volunteering a few folks to sit and man the phonebanks during the pledge drive:

The station was asking for groups and business's to bring 10 or more people in to the studios to answer phones for the Spring pledge drive. In return, the station would give publicity to the group or business by 1) announcing the name of the group on the air 3-4 times for every hour the group is answering phones, 2) conducting a 1-2 minute interview with select members of the group, 3) panning the cameras at our group during on air fund raising (can you say 9-11 T-shirts???), and 4) FEEDING US!

Would they allow a neo-Nazi group of Holocaust Deniers on PBS just because they agreed to field calls from donors? Boo to KBDI, Channel 12 in Denver!

Crockumentary "Press For Truth" to Be Shown On Denver PBS Station

This is the same idiot station that ran Freedom to Fascism and offered Alex Jones' Endgame to contributors; one assumes that they will not be offering Alex's Obama Deception.

Boos to KBDI, which apparently has no standards.
