Troofer Burn Video

Some of you may recall that the Troofers raised $20,000 to put together this sign, which the artist was going to destroy the vertical supports of with diagonal thermite charges at Burning Man.

Technical assistance was reportedly provided by Steven Jones. It was going to be a demonstration of how thermite brought down the towers.

But as with everything the Troofers touch, it didn't quite work out as planned. It was windy that day, and so what they did instead is burn some thermite in a pot under the sign (shown in the video). Of course, that doesn't explain why they couldn't have done the destruction of the sign on a non-windy day. My first guess is that the diagonal thermite charges didn't work.

The Cut That Never Was

They are all excited over at 911 Blogger regarding Steven Jones, who in his secret lab discovered that particles of metal from the Truthburn art project are "similar" to particles of metal recovered from World Trade Center debris. Well, similar in the same sense that tiny round pieces of metal are all similar to each other...

I was most amused by this characterization though (emphasis mine):

A short video of the reaction that produced these samples can be found at ttp://911truthburn.blogspot.com The TruthBurn art event was a memorial to all 911 victims, an attempt to demonstrate the steel cutting powers of thermite, its probable use in the controlled demolition of all 3 WTC buildings and to foster more discussion on the important work of ae911truth.The sign is now having a second life as a magnet for 911 Truth ideas. We are open to outstanding ideas for its use.

Yes, the event was "an attempt" to demonstrate the steel cutting powers of thermite, it was in fact, an unsuccessful attempt. No steel was ever cut, it was just a fireworks display, according to their own blog.

As mentioned below, we made what I believe was a safe and smart decision not to place our thermite cutter charges on the sign itself, rather ignite them beneath the sign on a hunk of steel we obtained from another artist.

Truther Burn

Hey, thermite burns! Who knew?

Update: It's starting to sink in over at 9-11 Blogger.

I thought they were burning the sign?

This was actually a major mistake as far as I'm concerned. Spent many $1000s of dollars & yakked about it for months then at the last min basically put a pot of Thermite under it which made the heavy steel sign thing not only pointless but now can be used by wingnuts to say "look they cant even burn 2 tiny 1" thick columns in half" this PROVES that Thermate had nothing to do with the WTC.

What the hell was that?..........I would have rather seen a sugar cube skyscraper filled with firecrackers.

Troof Burn Redux

LOL! As predicted, they did not manage to demonstrate that thermite could take down the towers, despite, you may recall, the technical assistance of Steven Jones, the Frank Hardly of thermite detectives. In fact, they didn't even try:

As mentioned below, we made what I believe was a safe and smart decision not to place our thermite cutter charges on the sign itself, rather ignite them beneath the sign on a hunk of steel we obtained from another artist.

So they burned three pots under the word Truth and had Richard Gage give a stirring lecture on the melting point of steel.

Hahahahaha! 4.6%!

Troof Burn: Another Fiasco for the Kooks?

Sure sounds like it from the carefully worded note over at their blog:

We just got back from Burning Man with a very successful thermite demonstration at the Truth sign. There are many details still in need of attention, so please be patient. We do have some great video. We burned about 80 lbs of thermite altogether and Richard Gage, AIA, gave an excellent talk before the burn. Yarrow Mahko and ae911truth's Bill Donelley were also in attendance.

Okay, so the thermite demonstration was a success "at the Truth sign"? Don't you mean that the thermite was succesful in destroying the Truth sign?

80 pounds of thermite? To cut through those two small girders? Bwahahahaha! And yet they still have "details in need of attention"? Why do I suspect that the details include the lack of a collapse?
