Well, I am glad they are looking for the "truth".

at least colonel sanders was actually given his honorary rank by the governor of kentucky, lol
They are about as thorough in their credential background checks as the "scholars". Do you expect better?

It is actually worse than that, it is not a matter of checking credentials, they are aware that Chavez is likely a fake, they just don't care because he suits their purposes.

You've got it backwards. Paranoid conspiracy theorists live and feed off of this stuff. Nothing makes them happier than encountering real evidence that the CIA/Illuminati/NWO/insert shadowy group here is out to silence them. It reaffirms their belief that they're sooooooo important that they must be monitored at all times.
Because paranoids are really just egomaniacs. They think everything that ever happens is entirely about them. It's a massive ego feed. Not to mention a convenient way for them to abdicate responsibility for their own failures in life.
