Sibel Edmonds, 9-11 Truther

Well, well. Brad Friedman assured me in a telephone conversation about a year and a half ago that Sibel was not a Troofer, but it looks like that no longer applies.

Alex Jones: So you wouldn't be surprised like many others, because of the evidence and the cover-up you've seen, if 9/11 was an inside job?

Sibel Edmonds: At this point, I'd have to say no, I wouldn't be surprised.

Alex Jones: Do you think the evidence is leaning towards that?

Sibel Edmonds: Well, again, considering the level of cover-up and the length at which they have gone to gag people and prevent information-- this information from coming out, I would say yes.

Hat Tip to Debunking the Debunkers. No matter how much John-Michael dances around the point, the fact is that Sibel lied to the 9-11 Commission about the contents of the Chicago Tribune article she cited in her letter.

What Chicago Tribune article would that be, Pat?

Whatever the truth of that, the coverup she discovered going on at the FBI was real enough for the DOJ/FBI officials to acknowledge and really it doesn't sound like her argument is diminishing in strength over time. Unlike pretty much everything the so-called "debunkers" ever had to bring to the table.

Bore-ass, this is probably over your head (just like everything else) but the fact that someone may have tried to cover up their own incompentence for failing to prevent a crime DOESN'T mean they committed the crime. Only a conspriatorial moron such as yourself would instantly make that leap.

It went from a 60 Minutes segment in 2002, to an independent documentary film in 2006, to bradblog.com in 2008, to Pat Buchanan's dying political magazine in 2009, to the Alex Jones Show in 2010. I'd sure call that diminishing.

Here we go, Pat at his usual evasive anonymous self!

Well, guess what, I found this link. All it illustrates is that what Ms Edmonds says differs from what the Star Tribune had reported. Note that the actual record of the unnamed FBI source's revelations is not presented; hence we have a potential for misinterpretation or deception. The potential exists for both the Star Tribune and Sibel Edmonds. You clearly have not accounted for that; perhaps this is why you wouldn't simply furnish the relevant links but would rather hide them under the layers of references hoping no one would check on that.

Except that the Chicago Tribune report did not say what she said it did. In fact, it contradicted her on several points.

Pat,

Sibel Edmonds may have not been precise in what she was saying; the FBI acknowledged the receipt of the information, yet characterized it differently. I don't know if there is deception involved here on anybody's part; that does not cancel the fact that many improprieties Edmonds reported were acknowledged as legitimate by none other that the FBI/DOJ officials.

And, personally, I'd be far more inclined to believe someone like Ms Edmonds who has put so much on the line to do do what she considered her duty than someone like you who is little but an anonymous Internet nobody.

Of course you would. Little chatterbox Sibel has a husband who must be near 75 years old now who use to be a big supporter of both Bushes. At least he was while the government contracts were rolling in.

Now that they aren't it sucks to not be able to afford your $3,000,000 house.

Independent, 4/2/2004

08/15/05 "Vanity Fair"

And the American regime being accused of these acts was democratically removed from office over a year ago. If Sibel Edmonds ever had anything of value, it's too late to do anything with it. Nobody cared in 2006, and nobody's going to care now, except 9-11 Truther losers, desperate to cling to anything that might support their fantasy.

When will whistle blowers learn that going on Alex Jones' show is not the best way to build your credibility?
I found Sibel Edmunds' stories to be very interesting until I learned that she was associated with the 9-11 "truth" movement, which wasn't for a while after I had initially heard of hear. She really doesn't have much to say about 9-11. The real meat of her accusations are much more interesting.
She basically claims that the US, Turkey's deep state, and the Mossad are cooperating to undermine nuclear non-proliferation by actively transferring nuclear technologies to to various villains, primarily through Turkey. She also claims that the Turks and the Israelis have spies within the US government (duh), presumably the ones stealing nuclear secrets. She also suggests that Valerie Plame was outed by this crime syndicate, not Robert Novak, because she got too close to the Turkish connection.
I'm not sure what any of this would have to do with 9-11, but its all way too complex for most conspiracy folks who myopically focus on finding evidence to support their own ideas about 9-11 (see Alex Jones).
A vast network of Nuke smugglers? whatever, tell us about 9-11!
The few things she's said about 9-11 seem to suggest a cover up of incompetence or LIHOP at best.
Personally, I find the idea that we looked the other way to transfer nuclear secrets to our allies much, much, much more believable than any of the prevailing 9-11 conspiracies; but they're probably all bunk. Maybe we'll get a good spy thriller out of it one day.

Boris, you don't have a clue as to what the word "anonymous" means, do you?

According to Merriam-Webster:

Main Entry: anon·y·mous
Pronunciation: \ə-ˈnä-nə-məs\
Function: adjective
Etymology: Late Latin anonymus, from Greek anōnymos, from a- + onyma name — more at name
Date: 1631

1 : not named or identified
2 : of unknown authorship or origin
3 : lacking individuality, distinction, or recognizability

— anon·y·mous·ly adverb

— anon·y·mous·ness noun

Someone identified as "Pat" (a very common male name all over the English-speaking world) with an "unavailable profile" I think fits the definition fairly well.

"Edmonds saying that Osama bin Laden worked for the U.S. right up until 9/11 has much supporting evidence. This evidence includes a report from one of the most reputable French papers, Le Figaro, which claims that a CIA agent met with bin Laden two months before 9/11."

"Reputable" and "French paper" do not often go together. I certainly would not cite them as a source. While we're talking about sources the gold-standard is three independant sources and all three have to be on the record. An unnamed source, if reliable, should be able to lead you to a named source. There are no named sources other than Edmonds. Thus, sloppy research leads to sloppy logic.

"Author Richard Labeviere later wrote a book, where he said 'a Gulf prince who presented himself as an adviser to the Emir of Bahrain' confirmed the meeting, which had been arranged by Prince Turki al-Faisal of Saudi Arabia.

Confirmation? Maybe, but again we don't know the source, so there’s no way to determine its accuracy."

Hasn't this site ever heard that a good reporter never reveals their sources?"

Labeviere is notorious for making shit up.

"The evidence supporting Edmonds also includes a CIA commander stating the U.S. let bin Laden escape from Afghanistan, French soldiers stating they could have killed Bin Laden, but were not allowed by American commanders, and an Al Qaeda trainer who it turns out worked with the Green Berets, CIA, and FBI!"

Let us take these one by one.

In the books "Jawbreaker", and "Kill Bin Laden", both authors express frustration that they were not allowed to pursue bin Laden into Afghanistan. However, if one actually reads these books (which are both outstanding) it becomes clear that there were two main factors on the ground in Afghanistan: 1- During the final push on the AQ stronghold there was a devistating break in the assault initiated by the local warlords to negotiate a surrender. This turned out to be a trick to let AQ escape. 2- There were zero French soldiers in Afghanistan in 2001 when this campain took place. The only foriegn personel were a few British SBS and SAS operators. 3- It is true that AQ had a mole at Fort Bragg at the JFK Special Warfare School. We got skunked. However, we didn't know the guy was AQ.

Bin Laden is not a mysterious guy. If you have read Billy Waugh or the account of bin Laden's nephew then you'd know that OBL is consistant as clockwork. One thing that has been consistant is his hatred of America, and the idea that he worked for CIA is as much of an insult to him as it is to the CIA. Look, terrorism is bad for business at every level. Security is an expense that has little bankable return. Keeping a population in a state of fear costs more money than it is worth. Plus, a happy popualtion is easier to control than an unhappy population. So once again the twisted logic of the troofers falls apart in the face of reality.

It's also worth mentioning that the only thing OBL might hate more than the United States is the government of Saudi Arabia. So the idea that they are collaborating with him, or that we are collaborating with him through them, is absurd. He was insulted when in the aftermath of Iraq's invasion of Kuwait, the Saudis invited "infidel" Americans into The Kingdom for their defense. He thought that he and his holy mujaheddin could repel Saddam's (fifth largest in the world) army. He felt snubbed that the Saudis would entrust the security of the Land of the Two Holy Places (or whatever they call it) to Americans over him. He's wanted to topple them (and us) ever since.
Just because we and OBL had common enemies in the Soviets in the 1980's doesn't mean we were best of buddies. Once that common enemy vanished, any pretense of cooperation vanished with it.

"We should have seen a number of major books published by now, with voluminous footnotes, on the operational details of the 9/11 plot, detailing the connections between Osama bin Laden, the masterminds and the hijackers -- but the subject continues to remain a black hole. Any reasonable person can smell a cover-up."

I've heard of the Looming Tower. This wikipedia entry summing it up says its not about the operational details:

"Because The Looming Tower is to a large extent focused on telling the story of the people involved it does not actually describe the 9/11 plot and its execution in much detail. It focuses more on the background and the conditions that produced the people who allegedly planned and staged the attack, and information about those who were combating terror against the USA."

So, it still stands: a black hole.

There's also something called "The 9-11 commission report" but I'm sure you don't believe its findings.
