Guess he's just part of the massive Zionist globalist conspiracy. His entire career (well, if one can call it that) and writings have all been a front so he could defend the government when they finally enacted their Final Plan.

It matters, and is an elephant in the room (for many on the left). The difference in this instance between the left/right is that a) the right wing has no investment or any part of the 9-11 denial movement, and b) the kooks on the right wing aren't "going mainstream." For example - almost 40% of Americans (by some polls' esimations) at least find the LC bullsh*t plausible, and many believe it.
Given that LC is a fabricated lie that is on its way to the ashheap of history, I think it can be construed from these kinds of polls which political party has more dupes and CT-consuming lunatics in its ranks. Propagandists, like Michael Moore, for example, are given positions of stature and admiration within the "truth to power" crowd, and that crowd also resides on the left side of the isle.
You can't avoid it. These LC fools are the creations and bastard children that decades of unchecked radicalism and post-modern deconstructionism hath wrought, and it isn't the GOP that they're threatening to destroy.

Believe it or not, there is a school of, well, thought is too kind of a word, but a school of something which maintains exactly that. The idea is that people like Chomsky (Amy Goodman is another person prominantly mentioned) are "gatekeepers," people who let out just enough of the "truth" to make it look like there's real debate but who in fact are working for the elites to keep the whole story, whatever that is, from the people or sheeple or whatever we're called these days.
David Manning White didn't know just how prescient his "gatekeeping" research was - we are just now starting to see on a mass level the TV and print media sausage factories unravelling - only partially, at that.
Fortunately for the masses, the 'gates' of information have been basically blown off with the proliferation of the Internet and the keepers aren't as influential or as nearly as powerful as they see themselves.

Sorry LT but you're off base on this one. Being unable to think is hardly limited to the left. There are plenty of people on the right side of the political spectrum who are just as unable to understand simple logic. For the most part, these types of conspiracy theories are the work of extremists. Keep in mind that the KKK, and many other holocaust deniers, are in fact technicaly right wing for the most part, even though they get quoted rather often by far-left whackos like our very own insync. The fact that more people on the left side of the spectrum can beleive that the 9/11 CT's are "plausable" is mainly due to their political leaning. If there were a CT which made the democrats look bad you can bet your ass that there would be more people on the right would say it's "plausable" than there would be on the left.

Alexander Cockburn (who is actually to the left of me and I'm pretty far to the left) has done two columns for The Nation about conspiracy nuts (by the way I can't think of anyone at The Nation who buys into CT BS). The editor of The Progressive, Matthew Rothchild, did a blog post about the subject. As you have just seen Noam Chomsky doesn't believe in them. The list goes on and on. The thing is all of these people I have just mentioned (Cockburn, Rothchild, and Chomsky) refer to CTists as being on "the left." But consider for a second that if there are all these people on the left saying that 9/11 CTs are crap and call the people who believe in them as being left-wing then...well...how does that figure.

If you look at the origins of these ideas, they are primarily of the far right, libertarian variety.

The same people who throughout the 90s believed that Oklahoma bombing and Waco were massive government conspiracies are the same ones who levelled the initial charges against the Bush administration.
It is to be noted that certain groups have since latched onto the idea.
The intellectual elites on the left have recognized that the 9/11 conspiracy, regardless of its factual validity, is a useful tool against the current power structure. Complex insinuations by the intellectual elite in the west have led now a large portion of the body politic to believe (either publically or privately) these theories.
Typically, throughout history and across the contemporary political world, grandiose conspiracies exist in environments where lack of information exists, and the public becomes starved for context when consuming complex events.
The nature of the response by the government subsequent to the terrorist attacks in the United States led to such an environment.
Serious observers will notice that the 9/11 theories never really gained traction until after the Iraq war turned for the worse. The public felt betrayed and looked backwards for simple answers to problems most people cannot possibly comprehend.
