A Gay Man On United 93

Errr, not Mark Bingham, but a blogger writing about watching the movie United 93:

If I were faced with this I hope I could have the courage of these folks. Yes, they were probably so scared they were ready to sh*t themselves but they still did what they had to do to try and survive and overcome the hijackers. I salute their effort, bravo zulu. Yet I want them back and all those who died on 9/11 including my friend. Not realistic I know, but I still want them back. I hope at least E.R., Jeremy Glick, Todd Beamer, Mark Bingham, Fr. Mychal, and all the rest are in paradise with the love of God surrounding them.

Amen, John! I should add here that after watching United 93 in the theatre, I had to take a 15-minute walk before I was willing to trust myself behind the wheel. Like John, I was completely frazzled emotionally after watching the movie.

Before the morons come flooding in here to disgrace the dead, I'd like to throw in that United 93 was a powerfully simplistic movie that showed us the best and worst that our species has to offer.

So posting a gay mans thoughts on another gay man regarded by the authors of this blog as a hero is now gay bashing?

You can debate the meaning and importance of bible verses for another 2,000 years and still find yourself in the same place we are now.

There is, however, one thing that Jesus said that has never been disputed:

Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.

R.I.P. Mark Bingham and the heroes of United 93

Now you guys are gaybashing?

Where the heck did you get that?

Pat: Thank you.

Roger: As the author of the comments which Pat linked to, let me say that I find nothing offensive in this post here. Heck, I myself have been pointing out the gay vitcims and heroes of 9/11 in addition to all the others. I've done so to make the point that we love our country too and want to fight to defend it. Context is everything my friend.

I almost forgot: thank you very much for this weblog. It has been useful and a relief more than once. God bless.

Thanks, John. Roger's post is so over the top I'd assume it was parody, but you can't tell with the Deniers.

Roger, I'm a gay man too. There's nothing offensive in this post whatsoever.

It's obvious that you need to take your sensitive panties to the cleaners. It's bad enough trying to talk sense into the deniers here. We certainly don't need overly PC, find-offense-in-everything, douche-bags like yourself crying "gaybashing" every time they see the word "gay" typed by someone other than "their own kind".

God forbid one's sexuality doesn't totally encapsulate their entire being....

PS - John. Welcome :) Long time no see.

You need a poll on the percentage of gay people who are skeptical of the government's version so that we can compare it with the percentage of the population as a whole.

Doesn't matter the percentage. Doesn't change the fact that these men rose up and took it upon themselves to be the first heroes of the new century. Everyday I reflect on the attacks and that we were lucky enough to have men like this with us, who valued the lives of their fellow man more than they did their own.

Roger:

I am not a gay man, but that doesn't mean I cannot read, even between the lines. In this case, there is nothing between the lines. I see no part of the article that should be considered offensive to Gays/Lesbians.

I applaud the author of this article. Mark Bingham, is an example of a true hero, gay, straight, is immaterial, except that it is wonderful for americans to be exposed to the fact that gender preference has nothing to do with courage.

I had the same reaction to the movie. I was shaking by the end of it. BTW has anyone seen the DVD version? It is supposed to have a bunch of interviews with family members on it.

Pat: True, but then unfortunately there are some gays who are so bitter that they'll latch onto anything to strike out at perceived enemies while ignoring the bigger threat. Your blog is top-notch.

Chad: Hey there fellow! Good to 'see' you again. ;-) My thanks for first introducing me to this blog awhile back.

TAM: Thanks. There were so many heroes on 9/11, so even if I personally can identify with Mark Bingham more that doesn't mean I have any less respect for the others. My God, what the men and women of the NYPD, FDNY, and the respective services of Arlington and Shanksville did along with the rest is inspiring. They are truly men and women of courage and people that deserve our respect.

James: Yes, I bought it. There are some clips with United 93 families in the bonus section. Very moving.

I can summarily conclude that your singling out of gays here is nothing more than homophobic response, insinuating that we should be persecuted for our differences.

So now calling gays heroes is homophobic?

You're not a big fan of common sense, are you?

At 17 September, 2006 16:45, Blogger JohnAGJ said...

Roger: You can call them whatever you wish but that doesn't change the fact that this post wasn't anti-gay at all. 'Nuff said.

At 17 September, 2006 17:13, Blogger Chad said...

Dude... only in a warped mind such as yours Roger would singling out a gay man as a hero be considered "homophobic".

It's people like you who will continue to marginalize the gay population as painty-waist, hyper-sensitive, fags.

Either grow a sack (and a brain) or go back to suckin' on momma's tit.

My sole point was that John's blog is called "Average Gay Joe", ergo he's a gay man. I started out with the title of "A Gay Man Writes On United 93", but I realized I could cut the word writes and make it something of a double-meaning; both about the post and about Mark Bingham, who's highlighted at the top left of the blog, and who's prominently featured in United 93 (and deservedly so).

nosiree, not gaybashing here.

That was posted by Chad you blithering idiot. And Chad, as he has pointed out a few posts back, happens to be gay. He wasn't "gaybashing", and if you hadn't selectively read/quoted what he wrote (the way you fools do with pretty much all info, as showcased in Loose Change) you would have understood that.

Next you will be saying Professor Jones didn't mean "Those filthy Jews" when he said 'international banking cartel'.

Yeah, and neither did Hitler, right?

Roger, I would remind you that it is the Deniers who are also denying that Mark Bingham is a hero. I think he's a hero, one of the biggest heroes on Flight 93. You're saying that Mark Bingham the hero was a Hollywood creation.

When you say Gay Man on United 93 you mean, hey look at this faggot- let's kick his ass. You'rte all a bunch of nazis

You are completely delusional Rog. 100% out of your fucking gourd.

Go through this blog. There are a couple posts on Mark Bingham. One even links to a video tribute of him.

The sad part here is that you have no other argument to stand on. You don't agree with much of anything that is said here, but for some reason you can't refute it either. Therefore, it's much easier for you to fall back on your Victim Card and cry "gaybashing" in an attempt to discredit this blog and maybe get some sympathy points for yourself.

You're pathetic. And a sorry excuse for a man. Gay or otherwise.

At 18 September, 2006 07:19, Blogger Alex said...

He's not gay Chad, he's just trying to be funny and instead coming off as a complete moron.

Let me give you a tip Rog. Don't try for humour or sarcasm, they're not your strong suit. If you want to make people laugh, just continue disseminating your usual gormless propaganda. When you actually try for humour it just ends up confusing people whereas when you're totally serious laughter comes to us without difficulty.

At 18 September, 2006 14:08, Blogger Alex said...

Actually the problem is you all have no sense of humor, which is probably based on the absence of creativity and imagination, which is why you must resign yourselve sto lives as unpaid critics. WHich is tragic.

Yeah....you make a joke....and NONE of us find it funny...and WE are the ones with no sense of humour?

You remind me of a comment made by a mother watching her sons graduation parade:

"Look, Jimmy's the only one in step!"

Roger if I said the truthers were a bunch of limp-wristed guys who liked nice clothes and knew how to decorate you'd assume I meant they were "fags" right?

"International banking cartel" really only refers to one type of people.

Roger, how many ribs did you have to get removed to be able to blow yourself like that?
