Washington Times Bites on Gage's Gaggle

A typically lousy piece of "press release journalism" by Jennifer Harper.

There is also evidence of "advanced explosive nano-thermitic composite material found in the World Trade Center dust," Mr. Gage says. The group's petition at www. ae911truth.org is already on its way to members of Congress.

"Government officials will be notified that 'Misprision of Treason,' U.S. Code 18 (Sec. 2382), is a serious federal offense, which requires those with evidence of treason to act," Mr. Gage says. "The implications are enormous and may have profound impact on the forthcoming Khalid Shaikh Mohammed trial."

Well, it happens.

Press release gets shortened, then goes straight in with little effort to research (though I've yet to hear the journalist's reason why).

I'd say much of the smaller news items are press releases of some sort, as it's an excellent way of getting publicity.

I had a very nice little business sending out press release for various companies many years ago, albeit motoring stuff.

OT, but it seems the OZ nutbars have finally said something about the recent press conferences:

Looks like no-one from the media turned up.

They even printed Gage's stupid as "treason" threat. The bitch is definitely drinking the Kool-Aid.

Correct, in the same sense that I fear positive publicity for psychics, "work at home" scams, pyramid schemes, and other fraudulent and easily disprovable garbage.

Incidentally, the 'Washington Times' has contributed to investigative journalism, insofar as it blew the fact (shortly after the Nairobi and Dar e-Salaam bombings) that the NSA had a tap on OBL's sat-phone.

Funnily enough, that phone went dead shortly after that 'scoop'.

Nicely done.

Maybe.

Remember, if one hasn't heard about any of this stuff, Gage's lies, misquotes, fantasy and delusion can sound convincing.

I'll suggest she look at some other sites, and try and speak to the people involved for another perspective.

I'm still open-minded about her being bat-shit crazy, though.

She's a professional journalist. She's supposed to do that kind of research before she publishes the story. Reminds me of when some idiot college student thought Manbeef.com was a real website.

Yes, yes, I agree, I think it's that I saw this as a column-type article, rather than a serious news-type one.

Maybe Oz journalism is worse than I thought, but we get shit-loads of idiot columnists doing this all the time.

They mouth off about something that's controversial, and hope it'll bring in a few outraged letters to the editor to increase their notoriety and exposure.

That's how I saw this, anyway.

I could also be completely wrong, and she's another fruitcake.

As for expecting journalists to be professional...there are many who are, and just as many (if not more) who don't give a shit, so long as;

1. they get their name on the bottom, and
2. they get noticed.

All of which adds up to more weight when it's time to talk salary.

But, as I said, I might be too cynical; I think the media over here (including the supposed 'respected' journals) well and truly sucks.

For your information, jackass, in order to be guilty of quote mining, one must quote someone out of context in order to misrepresent their argument ("Pull it" is a perfect example of quote mining, by the way).

An alternative definition is 'Someone - of far below average intelligence - who thinks that 9/11 was an inside job, despite the fact that all the evidence points to al Qaeda being responsible'.
