Alec Baldwin, Troofer

Not that it's terribly surprising; he fits in well with the Rosie O'Donnell / James Brolin / Ed Asner wing of celebrity fruitcakes. Just surprising that he took so long to come out of the closet.

It would certainly be a boost to the nutbars if Baldwin, as is speculated, runs for mayor of New York. Hizzoner the Truther would certainly be in a position to grant them their wish for a new "investigation".

Who Says Actors Are Airheads?

Mark Ruffalo, asked to provide the most compelling evidence about 9-11 Truth, mumbles something about how the 9-11 Commission didn't do anything before the attacks. Brilliant!

Note that this is not a case of him suddenly coming out as a Troofer; according to his Wikipedia page he's been vocal about his nutbar beliefs since 2007:
In October 2007, Ruffalo criticized the 9/11 Commission Report as "completely illegitimate" and called for re-opening the investigation. He said: "I saw the way they all came down and I am baffled. My first reaction is that buildings don't fall down like that."

And yes, he is an obvious right-winger:
On October 4, 2006, he appeared on Democracy Now!, a daily news program. He spoke against the War in Iraq, the Military Commissions Act of 2006, torture, and the Bush Administration. He also announced he would speak at The World Can't Wait Protest in New York City on October 5, 2006. Ruffalo contributed to the campaign of former Alaska Senator Mike Gravel for the 2008 Democratic Party nomination for President.

He's playing the mindless brute the Incredible Hulk in an upcoming film of The Avengers. Talk about being typecast!

Nutty Napolitano and Goofy Geraldo Raise Eyebrows

CNN, seeing a chance to get a dig in at their fiercest rival, highlights the new new celebrity Troofers:

It's rare that two media watchdogs – one on the left and one on the right – ever agree when it comes to assessing coverage on the cable news outlets.

But both the conservative Newsbusters and liberal Media Matters are aiming fire at Fox News' Geraldo Rivera and Judge Andrew Napolitano for recently suggesting the third building to fall on September 11, 2001 – 7 World Trade Center- may have collapsed for reasons beside the widely held belief that fire from the two World Trade Center towers nearby was the ultimate cause.

Newsbusters:

Both Napolitano and Rivera have, er, raised questions about the "official" (read: commonsensical) explanation for the collapse of the WTC7 building on September 11, 2001. This conspiracy theory has been thoroughly debunked a number of times. Apparently Geraldo and the Judge are not convinced.

Media Matters:
As Media Matters has documented, Napolitano's previous Jones appearances have been marked with conspiracy theories about the government and the "New World Order." For instance, Napolitano and Jones have agreed that Obama will "start a wider global war" to "be a prince," and discussed whether a powerful banking cartel linked to "world government" would "collapse the economy" and use that "as an excuse for martial law." Napolitano also told Jones of Texas secession: "That time has come. That may actually happen" because of the actions of the government.

Newsbusters links our old buddy Alllahpundit from a couple weeks ago on the Gerald conversion:

Why, oh why, oh why would the nefarious neocon junta that’s supposedly responsible for the 9/11 attacks have bothered with Building 7 in the first place? Never mind the huge number of government operatives they would have needed to plant explosives in the various buildings damaged or destroyed that day, or the fact that somehow not a single one of them has leaked anything about the plot more than nine years later despite that information being worth untold millions. Just ask yourself: If they were going to bring down the Towers as a pretext for war in the Middle East, why the hell would they have brought down Building 7 too? The structure’s collapse adds nothing to the already severe trauma of the day, and taking the time and effort to plant explosives would only increase the odds of detection. It would have been a wholly needless risk.

Of course, the real answer to that question is that to conspiracy theorists, nothing just happens. It was always planned to happen. Oh, sure, they've got some nebulous argument about how the SEC's files on Enron were stored in the building and somehow this prevented the government from prosecuting those responsible (which would be news to Jeff Skilling).

The Huffington Post also covered Napolitano's Trooferism:

Fox Business host Andrew Napolitano revealed on Tuesday that he does not believe the government's account of the 9/11 attacks. Napolitano, who hosts "Freedom Watch" on Fox Business and is frequently seen on Fox News as a legal analyst, told radio host Alex Jones — who is a prominent 9/11 conspiracy theorist —that the attacks "couldn't possibly have been done the way the government told us."

The subject came about when Jones noted that Geraldo Rivera had recently raised questions about the collapse of World Trade Center 7 on Napolitano's Fox Business Show. 9/11 conspiracy theorists have centered on that building's collapse, contending that it was blown up by government forces. Jones asked Napolitano what his opinion about the issue was.

That post attracted an astounding 11,347 comments, and revealed that many of the Huffington Posts' moderators (apparently chosen automatically by a computerized set of criteria) are Truthers themselves.

Update: Family members weigh in:
Charles Wolf's wife, Katherine, died in the North Tower on Sept. 11. He calls conspiracies like those Napolitano discussed "ludicrous," and accused him of using the tragedy to seek attention.

"After all the investigations, they are rather ludicrous," he said. "Nine and a half years after, to bring something like this up, what kind of publicity is he looking for for himself? It appears to me to be rather self-serving. He is not worth getting upset about, he is just someone who is looking for publicity."

Rosemary Cain, whose son, firefighter George Cain, died that day, took issue with Napolitano specifically.

"Judge Napolitano? I can't believe that, I really don't believe it," she said when she heard about his comments. "What can they gain by that? I think it is beneath him to come out with a remark like that. He is in a position of respect."

Olbermann is Right

Three words you will probably not hear me say again. But Andrew Napolitano (and Geraldo Rivera, for that matter) have become embarrassments to Fox News and should be kicked to the curb.

For some real hilarity, check out the comments at 9-11 Flogger. As usual, the kooks are deluding themselves into thinking that Keith said this with a wink and a nod:

Olbermann knows the truth
I wonder why he had the little notation "not really" with the photo. He's no dummy. He knows the truth. He's owned. Thank God for those like Olbermann for speaking out on other issues, but it''s so heartbreaking to have to tolerate his compliance with the network. He has been walking on thin ice lately, almost getting fired.

Olbernann said:

"OK. Napolitano is a truther. I don't have to agree with him. You don't have to disagree with him. But according to his employer's code of smear, they've got to fire him."

If said a certain way, one could assume "I don't have to agree with him" is equivalent to "I don't agree with him". But since Roger Ailes was the worst person target and not Napolitano, I would take Oblermann's words as carefully chosen and politically safe but not actually anti-truther. Nevertheless, I bet many will get the impression they are anti-truther.

This should not be misconstrued as Olbermann saying he thinks Napolitano should be fired. In effect, and to our great benefit, he is instigating a controversy at FOX, whether intentionally or not, that could lead to an explosion of discussion about 9/11 and Building 7.

I do think that Olbermann is more using the Truthers as a convenient club against his old nemesis, Fox News. But that doesn't mean that he's pro-Truther; I suspect he finds them just as wacky as we do.

Judge Napolitano Joins the Circus

I've had the feeling that this guy was a clown ever since he introduced "the great Alex Jones" on a Fox program; this just confirms it.

Roseanne Barr, Troofer

Another former celebrity gets on board with the Troof. She links Jon Gold's just the facts article, and says in the comments:

let's get to the bottom of this whole thing and see if my guess is correct---I say Bush did this, as he was instructed to do by his dad cheney and bill clinton kennedy, and everybody else whose wealth increased after 9-11. It was a red herring to empty the us coffers, to get rid of civil rights and jobs, and the working and middle classes. I know it was a big scam because after we were attacked, they sent our army away from home--instead of keeping them here to defend us. They left us here like they left the people floating away in katrina. They are using the american people as human guinea pigs for medical experiments conducted by psychiatrists. We had it too good for too long. We got lazy and stupid and obese. They are done with us now. They see us as useless eaters.

Well, Roseanne, I certainly see you as a useless eater. I love this part:

They know that the filth of the world is dumped in Haiti, and that children there are dying from dirty water, but the rich don't care about any of that.

The rich? Roseanne, I'm going to hazard a guess that you're in the top 1% of the top 1% of the wealthy in this country.

Cindy Sheehan and Dick Gregory, Truthers

The Peace Mom comes out for Troofy Troof:

To an enthusiastic packed house at All Souls Church in New York City, Sheehan declared “I am a 9/11 truther. I do think it was an inside job.”

And Dick Gregory, who used to be a "haha" comedian and now is a "haha" nutjob:

The new forensic evidence which is being released today by Architects and Engineers for 9/11 Truth demonstrates the presence of controlled demolition materiel in the World Trade Center buildings One and Two.

And:

I was born on October 12, 1932. I am announcing today that I will be consuming only liquids beginning Sunday until my eightieth birthday in 2012 and until the real truth of what truly happened on that day emerges and is publicly known.

Of course, the key there is defining "liquids"; it is well-known that Cindy Sheehan, when she started her "Troops Home Fast" was drinking Jamba Juice, which is loaded with calories.

Pat Buchanan, 9-11 Truther?

Update: According to this, the articles posted on that website are not approved or screened by Buchanan himself. A former Buchanan staffer named Linda Muller runs the website and is apparently responsible for the kookery.

Question:

* Who owns this website?

Answer:

* Since 1995, Buchanan.org is owned and operated by Linda Muller. While Pat Buchanan is our inspiration, he is not editor, publisher, or manager, and does not decide any of the content.

I'm a bit surprised that he allows her to create the impression that it's his website when it's not. Still, Buchanan's off the hook for now.

Hat Tip to Bill Giltner.

Well, well, well, Pat Buchanan finally signs onto 9-11 Troofy Troof. He posts uncritically an entire article by Alex Jones' flunky Paul Watson on controlled demolition at the WTC.

Now, given that it's Pat Buchanan, can you possibly guess what might have attracted him to the cause of Truthiness? I'll give you a hint; it starts with "J" and ends with "ews".

By way of background, Alan Hart, a former news reader on the BBC, who's got a bee in his bonnet about those evil Zionists, appeared on Holocaust Denier Kevin Barrett's radio program. Hart presented his rather novel views on Israel's history, including (inevitably) the USS Liberty incident. Barrett segues into the "Jews did 9-11" tangent and Hart reveals that he's a thorough crackpot. Adam Holland transcribed the segment:

Hart: So basically, I've stayed away from it because it give them the focus to take the attention away from your main message. But, since you've mentioned it, I'll tell you what I honestly believe. I think it probably started out as an all Muslim operation, okay? But I think it would be very quickly penetrated by Mossad agents. I detail it in my book. From almost the moment Israel was born, it had its agents penetrating every Arab government, every Arab military organization, and every Arab terrorist group, whatever. So they certainly would have penetrated this. And at some point they said to the bad guys in the CIA, "this is running, what should we do with it?" And the neo-cons said "let's use it".

The twin towers were brought down by a controlled ground explosion, not the planes. Now I'm going to tell you in passing that one of my friends is a consultant for one of the world's leading engineering firms. I'm not going to name him. They've studied the films and they've found that there's no doubt whatsoever that the planes were brought down... sorry, that the towers were brought down by controlled ground explosion. And then we have the film of the -- what is sometimes called the five dancing Israelis. Are you aware of that Kevin?

Yep, he goes into the dancing Jews were Mossad bit, then we get the eight hijackers are still alive crap. But that part above about how consultants for one of the world's leading engineering firms are convinced that the towers were brought down by controlled demolition is his real addition to the 9-11 conspiracy theories. Well, that and this:

Hart: That's right. It's established fact. It suggests that they knew that it was going to happen. It was possible, and this is Alan Hart speaking, that the planes were fitted with transponders, and these guys were calling in the planes to the targets. It's not impossible.

Yeah, and monkeys could fly out of my butt. It's not impossible. At any rate, you can see what attracted Buchanan to the story; he's long supported any conspiracy theories involving Jews, including Justin Raimondo's natterings about the Israeli Art Students.

It will be interesting to see if the Troofers follow up on this information. Surely Hart will not be allowed to remain silent about the identity of his consultant friend. Over at Flogger, this topic comes up.

Come ON, Alan. If you are going to make a claim as potentially earthshaking as this, please let us all know the identity of this civil engineering firm, the people to whom you spoke, the people who conducted the study, and evidence of the text of the study!

I don't agree with the "Truthers" often, but in this case I'll make an exception. Alan Hart needs to come clean about his source.

BTW, check out Buchanan.org's sidebar links. American Free Press, Paul Craig Roberts, AE9-11 Truth, Global Research, Max Keiser... it's a cornucopia of craze.

Drooling Old Actors in Their Dotage for 9-11 Troof

Ed Asner has recorded a radio spot for Box Boy Gage's group (MP3 file). Of course, Asner has been a Truther for several years; here he is way back in 2004:

What's sadder; the fact that Asner's huge body of work is spoiled at the end by his feverish conspiracy theory rantings, or that Architects and Nutbars for 9-11 Troof thinks they can exploit him to promote Richard Gage?

Colleen Rowley Continues to Dance Around the Question

Nightline asked her a pretty simple question: "Do you believe the government helped to murder innocent Americans [on 9-11]?" That she was unwilling to give a straight answer speaks volumes, as does this post at the HuffNPuff. As you can see, she continues to dodge the question, preferring instead to tell the reporter what he should have done:

1) Chris Bury and his news crew left right after interviewing me. They apparently only spent a couple hours at the conference that morning (before I arrived) and did not interview any of the sick 9-11 rescue workers or 9-11 victim family members. It turns out that while castigating the victims' quest for more facts about 9-11, they had refused to interview these folks!

They weren't castigating the victim's quest; they were castigating the nutty conspiracy theories. About all we can glean from Rowley's post is this:

4) The Nightline crew appeared so intent on vilification but it missed my presentation on "Truth--the Dribs and Drabs" as well as other speakers' presentations on questions about inconsistencies in the NORAD time lime, the level of pre 9-11 intelligence that existed, and the actual motivations of the 9-11 hijackers (that involve the illegal Israeli settlements and Israel's handling of Palestinians instead of Bush's glib answer "they hate our freedoms").

A reminder, Colleen. Israel was only the third item on Osama's fatwa against the United States, after the presence of US troops on Saudi soil, and the sanctions against Iraq after the first Gulf War.

Update: Rowley appears in this Russia Today piece, as do Richard Gage and his boxes:

Also check out the Troofermobile. Classic!

Keith Olbermann Goes Truther

Not particularly a surprise, just wondering why it took him so long.

The attacks of Sept. 11, 2001 changed American politics forever. But in spite of the warning signs raised by the U.S. intelligence community, the Bush administration seemed preoccupied with other issues, aloof to the alleged threat until the day both towers fell.

Why then, MSNBC's liberal host Keith Olbermann asked on Friday night, is it "taboo" to blame the Bush administration for allowing the deaths of nearly 3,000 Americans on their watch?

His conclusion: For their lack of vigilance and because they "did not prioritize," President George W. Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney are to be faulted for the attacks.

Confirmed: Cindy Sheehan is a 9-11 Truther

She's always kind of danced around the edges of the 9-11 Fruitcake brigade, but she can't deny that she's a Truther any more. In a podcast interview here, she says (starts around 21:48):

"I think a new investigation is something that many many people agree with, if people don't start saying, 'It's an inside job.' Because that turns a lot of people off, even though I think it [9-11] was an inside job, I just don't know how far inside it went. But as soon as you say it's an inside job, people start saying, oh, you're accusing Dick Cheney of planning the whole thing, blah blah blah. Well, of course, some people are (laughs) but then people say, we don't know, we need to find out. Was it CIA? Was it whoever? Whoever, um, it had to be an inside job. There's like no way they could have done that, just like the one on December 25th. There's no way that guy could have done it without some kind of help, and we know he got help. Who was (crosstalk) that nice-dressed man that got him through that these people witnessed, got him through security?"

So she believes it was an inside job, she just doesn't recommend it as a slogan.

Spencer Pratt and Heidi Montag's Trooferism Hits Tabloids

Us magazine has an article about their descent into nuttery:

Spencer Pratt and Heidi Montag Pratt shared some controversial views on a radio show earlier this week.

In a Monday appearance on Alex Jones' radio show, Infowars, the couple revealed they feel 9/11 was an "inside job," say the idea that global warming exists is "mind boggling" and lament the "end of humanity."

BTW, a couple hours ago a friend stopped by and I happened to have Heidi's twitter page (which has been remarkably quiet the last 24 hours) up. He's about 50 years old, obviously not in the MTV demographic, and he immediately asked me, isn't that that gal Speidi? He explained that she'd been on a recent reality TV show on NBC, and that she and her husband were obnoxious and annoying and quite clearly crazy. Apparently the Speidi thing is a take off on Brangelina.

Trooferism did not kill Charlie Sheen, although it definitely scuttled Rosie's career. We'll see what the fallout is from this for the couple America loves to hate; it may just make them more popular.

BTW, check the comments for some amusement.

Celebrity Twit Twitters Troof

I confess I had not heard of Heidi Montag, probably because my definition of "celebrity" requires someone who's done more than appear on a reality TV show.

As the old joke goes, she looks like she was poured into that bikini and forgot to say "when". But perhaps typically for someone who has gotten ahead on looks and not substance, she's a dimwit.

@prisonplanet thank you for finding and exposing the truth about the New World Order and Global Elite! Jesus is coming! God bless u!

everyone follow @prisonplanet!

check out @infowars!

Hat Tip: Patrick from Cincinnati (in the comments)

Update: Heidi's been tweeting back and forth with celebrity blogger Perez Hilton. I don't know much about Perez either, but he very much comes off the sane one in their exchange. Noting her dueling passions at the moment for Jesus Christ and Alex Jones, Perez suggests:

@heidimontag I think you need to be reading more of the Bible and less of Infowars.

and:

@heidimontag P.S. Did you stop smoking weed? Are you going through marijuana withdrawals? Why have you been acting so strange?

And when Heidi tweets back that she loves him:

@heidimontag I love you too, when you're not scaring me. xoxo

Fear of Flailing

This is a bit old, but I had not seen it before. Add Erica Jong, most famous for a book she wrote about 30 years ago called Fear of Flying, to the list of "celebrity" nutbars:

Then came 9/11 -- which supposedly also "changed everything." On a gorgeous day of blue skies in New York and D.C., towers came tumbling down on their own footprints -- unlike any bombing ever seen.

Come on, Erica, if you're going to be a fruitcake, at least parrot the phrase correctly. "... came tumbling down into their own footprints at freefall speed."

So 9/11 came and went -- and whether it was an attack from abroad or a conspiracy of some sort -- is not the point of this essay. Perhaps it was a sort of Reichstag fire, perhaps not--the Bushevicks treated it as such and took the opportunity (long wished for and planned for) to pass all sorts of nasty laws restricting everyone's freedoms.

Perhaps Erica is a kook, perhaps not? Actually she is, she's just maintaining a bit of plausible deniability.

Celebrity Deniers List

Okay, I thought it might be a good idea to start compiling a list of the buffoonish celebrities who have come out in favor of 9-11 Denial. The kooks picked up a new one today, Daniel Sunjata, who has been in a few movies and apparently is a regular on "Rescue Me", one of the many TV shows I have never watched. Here's the list as I have it:

Rosie O'Donnell
James Brolin
Charlie Sheen
David Lynch
Daniel Sunjata
Christine Ebersole
Ed Asner
Ed Begley, Jr.

Any others?
