The news of the death of Osama bin Laden gives me a sense of long-awaited, meaningful closure.

Ten years since the senseless, heartless murder of my husband and 3,000 innocent others, final justice has been meted out -- though not swift it is certainly sweet.

A multitude of different inside sources both publicly and privately, including one individual who personally worked with Bin Laden at one time, told us directly that Osama’s dead corpse has been on ice for nearly a decade and that his “death” would only be announced at the most politically expedient time.

Because, you know, it wouldn't have been politically expedient to have it announced, say, prior to the elections in 2006 when the Democrats took over Congress?

Cindy Sheehan: I am a Truther American

OK, not exactly news, but does this remind anyone else of the confession you always have to make at the beginning of an AA meeting?

To an enthusiastic packed house at All Souls Church in New York City, Sheehan declared “I am a 9/11 truther. I do think it was an inside job.”

And Dick Gregory, who used to be a "haha" comedian and now is a "haha" nutjob:

The new forensic evidence which is being released today by Architects and Engineers for 9/11 Truth demonstrates the presence of controlled demolition materiel in the World Trade Center buildings One and Two.

And:

I was born on October 12, 1932. I am announcing today that I will be consuming only liquids beginning Sunday until my eightieth birthday in 2012 and until the real truth of what truly happened on that day emerges and is publicly known.

Of course, the key there is defining "liquids"; it is well-known that Cindy Sheehan, when she started her "Troops Home Fast" was drinking Jamba Juice, which is loaded with calories.

It's a lot more interesting than anything the Troofers are doing today:

I began to plan a way to join Matthis and Elaine when I went to the front of the barrier and saw my dear friends, who have always been there for me, lying on the sidewalk by themselves. Just as I was figuring out how to get over the barriers, the section I was at collapsed onto the sidewalk and I took the opportunity to step over hoping that dozens, if not hundreds, would follow.

Well, you can probably guess how that turned out; neither dozens nor hundreds followed.

Why, when the barrier was compromised, did more people not follow us to actually put their beliefs into higher relief than merely marching in a circle on Saturday? While we were being (tightly) handcuffed and loaded onto the hot paddy wagon, the crowd of on-lookers chanted, “This is what hypocrisy looks like.”

Indeed. She whines about the food, she whines about the cell, she whines about her fellow protesters not joining her. And she closes with a common slur about police officers:

Three of us went to pick up our property this morning at the Park Police station and as we were being jacked around, an officer named Thomas (Badge number 628) told me that if I “stopped getting arrested” I wouldn’t have to go through all of this.

I said: “when the wars stop, I will stop.” He actually then told me: “The wars will stop when we nuke them and take their oil.”

I wonder why they are called “pigs.”

Cindy never mentions Jon Gold. Jon's story is over at Troof Action:

From there, we were placed into a truck that had a VERY cramped sitting area. I am somewhat claustrophobic so it was hard for me to get in. I did. On the way to the jail, we were talking about how we should have been let go, among other things.

After we arrived at the jail, they took off our plasticuffs, and they frisked us. Then we were placed into what can only be described as a human kennel. The cells were SMALL, and comprised of steel walls, steel beds, steel sinks, and steel toilets. The bars were made up of big bars, and a steel mesh that kind of looked like this from Star Trek TNG. It was easily 85-90 degrees in there, with one big fan blowing. There was very little air circulation. My shirt became my pillow, and I put my socks in the water, and wrapped them around my head Rambo style in order to cool off.

Cindy's cell was too cold, Jon's was too hot. I like this juxtaposition though:

We all plead not guilty, and have a trial sometime in June, but one of the more interesting things to happen was a request from the White House to create a "stay away" area around the White House that if we were to enter, we would get an automatic sixth months in prison.

And:

I was often asked if I would do it again. My answer is without hesitation.

And yet he didn't go for the six month tour?

Confirmed: Cindy Sheehan is a 9-11 Truther

She's always kind of danced around the edges of the 9-11 Fruitcake brigade, but she can't deny that she's a Truther any more. In a podcast interview here, she says (starts around 21:48):

"I think a new investigation is something that many many people agree with, if people don't start saying, 'It's an inside job.' Because that turns a lot of people off, even though I think it [9-11] was an inside job, I just don't know how far inside it went. But as soon as you say it's an inside job, people start saying, oh, you're accusing Dick Cheney of planning the whole thing, blah blah blah. Well, of course, some people are (laughs) but then people say, we don't know, we need to find out. Was it CIA? Was it whoever? Whoever, um, it had to be an inside job. There's like no way they could have done that, just like the one on December 25th. There's no way that guy could have done it without some kind of help, and we know he got help. Who was (crosstalk) that nice-dressed man that got him through that these people witnessed, got him through security?"

So she believes it was an inside job, she just doesn't recommend it as a slogan.

A Sensible Leftist Speaks Out On The Truther/Sheehan Alliance

I've generally found Marc Cooper to be one of the more sensible lefties and a post today decrying Cindy Sheehan's newfound buddies in the 9-11 crackpot movement just reinforces that opinion.

Meanwhile, back to Sheehan. I've been reading on some liberal list-serves how last month Sheehan pulled together a meeting in Philly to explore --omigod-- how to unify the the peace, pro-impeachment and the"9/11 truth" movements. The latter, of course, are the certifiable loons who believe the Twin Towers were dropped by "controlled demolitions" set off, presumably, by the Bush Administration. These are the whack-jobs we want more unity with? Didn't Cindy Sheehan say she was retiring from politics? Can she re-retire, please?

Unfortunately, Sheehan's efforts have borne some fruit -- so to speak. Check out this upcoming event in which the "unity" sought by Sheehan is at least partially reflected. One expert fringe-watcher has extracted some real nuggets from the stew of participants and backers of this horrific event. He notes that speaker Webster Tarpley was a long-time militant in the proto-fascist LaRouche cult. One of the other guest speakers, Ralph Schoenman, has a long checkered history dating back to the 60's when he was accused of manipulating his then-boss Bertrand Russell into endorsing actions he knew nothing about. Jean-Paul Sarte threw a fit over the way Schoenman tried to hijack an international citizens' war crime tribunal over Vietnam. Since then Schoenman has been on a constant trajectory away from Earth and is now deep into 9/11 conspiracy crap which he professes on his regular radio show on the ultra-marginal WBAI.

The “impeach now” crowd reminds me of a football coach, late in a season which has produced only loss after loss, imploring his team to throw a “Hail Mary” pass over and over again, all the while suffering sack after sack of its quarterback as the offensive line fails to effectively block and the receivers fail to get open. The season is lost, and instead of pursuing futile and ineffective tactics designed to produce a meaningless score, the coach would be better off seeking to return to the basics so that his team might perform better next season. Only when the basics of blocking, tackling, running and ball handling are mastered can one expect to mount a campaign designed to produce a winning season.

Exactly. And the impeach now crowd's alignment with 9-11 Denial is the ultimate "Hail Mary" attempt.

Cindy Sheehan Becoming Full-On Woo

She appeared on Alex Jones' program yesterday:

"I definitely think that is a distinct possibility, that there will be some kind of attack whether it's manufactured or real....I think it's really possible that these people will do that - why would he [Bush] put in that presidential directive if he didn't need to use it - I think it's really really frightening," Sheehan told The Alex Jones Show.

"Does anybody think that [Bush's] recent presidential decision directive wasn't for declaring martial law and suspending elections - that's why they have to be stopped," added Sheehan.

I haven't listened to the interview myself, but I will and will update this post then.

Update: Cindy announced near the end of her segment that she intends to go to Syria, Jordan and Southern Iraq after her trip to DC.

Update II: Cindy is apparently not planning on challenging Pelosi in the Democratic primary but running as an independent or third-party candidate (Greens?). Of course, it's not like she's going to end up being a spoiler, since Republicans don't get many votes in San Francisco (Pelosi's district) anyway.

There's apparently going to be an "Emergency Antiwar Convention" in Philly next week (on the Fourth of July), called by Cindy Sheehan:

Cindy gave a call to, "all citizens", "to join us in Philadelphia on July 4th to try and figure a way out of this "two" party system that is bought and paid for by the war machine which has a stranglehold on every aspect of our lives. As for myself, I am leaving the Democratic Party. You have completely failed those who put you in power to change the direction our country is heading. We do not condone our government's violent meddling in sovereign countries and we condemn the continued murderous occupation of Iraq.”

Cindy Sheehan Has Some Free Time...

And we know that people who have free time tend to join the 9-11 Truther Bandwagon. She appeared on Alex Jones' show today (MP3 File) and lent her support to the crackpots. Her appearance starts at about 68:00 into the show.

She gets into the 9-11 Woo starting around 76:00:

I think that the 9-11 Commission Report was a total travesty and um, a smokescreen and I am also calling for an independent um, like I said a better investigation, um actually an investigation into 9-11 because really the other one was just a farce, and I have steadfastly stuck to my guns and I believe that part of the reason why we're having so many problems in the Arab Muslim world is because of our overwhelming support for Israel's policies in Palestine. And I've supported it, I've said I'll stand by that statement 100%, I think our policies need to be fair in that region to everyone, not just the government of Israel and I know there are many people who are Jewish and who do live in Israel who agree that their government is very oppressive of the Palestinian people, and I think that those are occupied territories as much as Iraq is and I've called for occupations to end all over the world."

Jones of course wants to nail her down on the tinfoil stuff and she obliges at 78:28:

"Well, why, um, was the air defenses doing a uh, exercise that day. Why was the new FAA head there that day for the first day, and why weren't the controls--the automatic mandatory controls--when you lose contact with an airplane, you intercept it with a military jet, and that should only take seconds, and those orders--I mean it's not even--from what I understand, and you know more about this than I do, it's not even an order to do that--it's mandatory! (Jones interjects, "It's default!") From what I understand it's the FAA person, who just started that day, countermanded that automatic order."

She is of course referring to Ben Sliney, who was not the head of the FAA, but the national operations manager, but who was in fact in his first day on that job on 9-11. And the notion that those planes could have been intercepted in seconds is risible. In the much-cited case of Payne Stewart, for example, it took the military 4,860 seconds to intercept his plane; approximately 81 minutes in other words. Sliney's major order that day was for a national groundstop, prohibiting any more planes from taking off; he certainly made no orders that could remotely be interpreted as forbidding the military from intercepting the hijacked planes.

"And it does look to me like a controlled demolition. But I'm not an expert.... But maybe now that I have more time, I'll study it more thoroughly...."

Cindy Sheehan Coddles 9-11 Deniers, Admits Many Truthers in Her Crowd

Blood: Is there a sense of inclusion for the people asking for new investigations for 9-11? Do you guys feel any kindredship at all with the 9-11 Truthers? Is that out there?

Sheehan: Well, I definitely have called for you know a valid investigation into what happened on that day. You know I definitely think that we don't know the truth, we weren't told the truth, the investigation was just a sham, you know, how can people testify not under oath (laughs)? You know so many valid questions and good questions aren't even asked. So I do, I am, uh, an advocate for a new investigation, that's for sure. Everywhere I go, my audiences are filled with 9-11 Truth people, and I really honor your commitment to finding the truth.

Cindy, if Holocaust Deniers show up at your speeches, are you going to tell them that you honor their commitment to finding the truth? Predictably the kooks are celebrating:

In this video that the 9-11 Deniers are highlighting. She notes that Bush and Cheney were not under oath when they testified before the 9-11 Commission, but then recognizes that it would not make any difference, "Because they're liars." I disagree with her on that point, but it does seem to be a silly argument that somehow if Bush and Cheney had been forced to testify under oath, they would have spilled the beans.
