Campos: Loose Change Certifiably Insane

Paul Campos, a law professor at the University of Colorado and a longtime columnist reviews the "Truth Movement":

First, the 9/11 Truth movement features a wide variety of claims, ranging from the quite plausible (the government's negligence prior to the attacks was not wholly displeasing to certain members of the Bush administration), to the wildly improbable (the WTC towers were brought down by controlled demolitions), to the certifiably insane.

The latter category includes claims such as that 9/11 was a plot to steal $160 billion in gold buried under the WTC (this theory is put forth in the film "Loose Change," which has purportedly sold 100,000 DVD copies); that no airplanes hit the towers (the theory here involves sophisticated holographic imaging equipment); and that the passengers supposedly killed on the four flights hijacked that day were all herded onto United Airlines Flight 93, which landed safely in Cleveland before the passengers were transferred to a top-secret NASA facility.

If you're curious, you can also find plenty of stuff about how it was all really the work of Satanists, or an elite secret society that was set up several thousand years ago by space aliens. (A morbidly amusing sidelight to the 9/11 Truth movement is that many of its members have become convinced that other members are either unwitting dupes or conscious agents of the government, who are propagating obviously outlandish theories for the purpose of discrediting the movement as a whole.)

I love it. See the very thing that the CTs want, that being an audience, will be their undoing. As more people hear their arguements, particularly the outlandish ones, the more people that will become convinced of their madness.

See the problem with their movement, is that they are so desperate to hold on to every individual that sides with them, that they refuse to seperate the wheat from the Chaff. If i were a member of Scholars, for instance, I would distance myself as much as possible, from LC, D.A. etc...

I agree, but Fetzer obviously loves Loose Change; during his interview with Alan Colmes he endorsed every single aspect of the conspiracy that LC presents.

Like, hey man, I've been wondering about that gold, 'cause it's like really heavy, I mean, it was a lot, and like I mean sold 100,000 DVD's, like no way man, I mean there may be 100,000 copies, but unless my may Jason is cheating me, no way did we sell 100,000.

As looney as the scholars have been lately, maybe Loose Change should try and distance themselves from them?

Fetzer loves LC, he mentions them in just about every radio interview. Sadly, I have listened to most of them.

Kevin, you know I am so disgusted with the New York Times, these events were happening just downtown from the Times’ headquarters. The fact that the Times could not be bothered to assume the responsibility to seriously investigate what happened, the fact that three college kids from upper New York put together a DVD called Loose Change that provides a more thorough comprehensive understanding of what happened than the New York Times will ever publish on its pages simply fills me with dread and disgust. This is our newspaper of record abdicating its responsibility to the nation and the world

I honestly believe that these people know what their spouting is ludicrous.

I mean you can't be dishonest consistently without some kind of consciousness behind it.

160 Billion Dollars of gold.

Lets say about $600/oz (rough)
= $9600/lb
160,000,000,000 divided by 9,600 gives us.....
about 17 Million pounds. That is alot of gold. How many trucks would that take....hmmm

Didn't the LCers/CTers steal this "truckloads of gold bullion" bit from Die Hard With A Vengence, but without the pinache of a smooth terrorist leader played by Jeremy Irons?

The LC moron parade is in the midst of their own controlled demolition. Highly entertaining!

I think we are expecting a little too much of the truthiness movement. It is not a political party, it is a movement. Does the environmental movement agree about everything? Does it have its extremes? And even if it were a party or a single organisation, does the Republican party "agree" about everything? No, they have factions and groups and so on.

So I don't think it is such a valid criticism of the truthiness movement that they can't all agree on the same lunatic conspiracy theory.

Well, they all seem to agree on the idea that the environment is good, and that hurting it is bad.

What do the CT's agree on? They can't even come to an agreement on whether the whole thing was pulled off by the Bush administration, da Jooos, or space aliens.

I'm leaning towards space aliens myself.

Given the "case" that the Truthiness movement has "presented (screeched)," it is the next most plausible 9-11 theory next to Islamic terrosists doing what they do best.

I have no doubt that the FBI and CIA were monitoring some of these hijackers prior to 9/11.

CIA/FBI keep a long list of "suspicious" individuals, and I have little doubt that most of the 19, and the Bukharis were on it.

No one here ever has an answer to that. It proves that you cannot trust the official version's identification of the "19 hijackers."

Does this Campos person answer it?

You have a funny definition of proof.

Just out of curiosity, how exactly does that mesh with your "Bush Did It!" theory? If the US admin had pulled off 9/11, don't you think they would have done a better job of framing the hijackers? Or does your personal version of logic somehow explain why they'd intentionaly frame a guy who died a year earlier?

First thing I thought of when I first saw Loose Change.

Why were the 2 Bukharis (one of whom had died the previous year and the other is still alive) initially suspects in 9/11?

Why were hundreds of people suspects in the Green River Killer case? I mean it was obviously Gary Ridgeway, right?

Oh, that's right, it's called an investigation.
