BYU Prof Steven Jones Not a Ph.D!

(Correction: I personally confirmed with Vanderbilt University on Monday, September 11, 2006 that Steven Earl Jones was awarded a PhD in Physics on 5/17/78. I am leaving the text of the post of as it was originally posted. I will also post a correction at the top of the blog.)

Holy smoke, how did we all miss this one? I noticed a new 9-11 Debunking blog in our referrers, surfed over there and just about freaked out when I saw this post:

Steven E. Jones does not have a doctorate degree, so Implosion World changed the text to refer to him as “Professor Jones”

Sure enough, I checked the linked PDF from Implosion World, and they had amended their article (at the back):

But interestingly, the Scholars for 9-11 Truth, which Jones co-founded, mentions him on the front page of their website, third article down from the left, as a Ph.D., as does BYU in a response to a press request from the Deseret Morning News, which broke the story of Jones' suspension.

"BYU has repeatedly said that it does not endorse assertions made by individual faculty," the statement said. "We are, however, concerned about the increasingly speculative and accusatory nature of these statements by Dr. Jones."

According to his curriculum vitae, Jones has TWO PhD's.

We better get this right or it could bite us in the ass.

Ooops, make that one PhD.

He still can't explain how thermite does what he claimed it did and he still won't submit his "research" to relevant publications for peer-review.

He's worthless. Period.

Agree on all points, but I also agree with sword that we shouldn't claim he's not a PhD using as evidence a CT site. Hell, we shouldn't claim that the sun rises in the east on the evidence of a conspiracy site. Same with Wiki.

It's up at Implosion World as well, I'll provide the direct link to the PDF.

The implosion world claim that Jones does not have a doctorate degree seems to be without reference to source. As sword points out, Jones's CV indicates he has a Ph.D and has carried out post-doctoral research.

Of course, this same CV lists "evidence for christ's visit in america" as a research interest, which should -- in the abstract -- strip anyone of any Ph.D status on account of stupid.

Regardless, unless something more interesting comes to light, I don't see much substance in this "No PhD!" claim.

I do not know you, but from the tone in your post I am safely assuming you are part of the TROOF movement. If this is true, than your entire movement is based on 95% internet evidence so, Mr. Kettle, just shut up.

Yes he's part of the troof movement, and yes he's an idiot. Nowhere does Pat draw a conclusion about whether Jones is a Ph.D or not. Well, ok, the title makes it seem like he does, and as such should probably be changed to something less misleading. But the article itself simply lays out the relevant info without making any conclusions. Therefore, accusing Pat of the

I READ I ONLINE!! IT MUST BE TRUE!!!

mindset is more than a little dishonest. He read it, disseminated the info, and avoided jumping to conclusions because he saw that there was contradictory info on the subject and, as such, understood that it'd be unwise to jump to conclusions before coming up with more concrete evidence.

Now contrast that to the Troof Movement, where claims of "the planes were missiles with holograms!" are made with a straight face, and accepted without question.

Thanks Alex. The fact that Implosion World added that as a correction to their article is a pretty good indication that they think they've got the goods on Jones. I'm going to call Vanderbilt on Monday.

How someone as dumb as you got married if beyond me.

You won't buy into the unsupported paranoid nonsense - SHEEP! SHEEP!

Ya, pal, those are all unsupported

You got it right for once! Good job!

That's the way things work in the real world. When you can't produce any corroborating evidence, and when what "evidence" you do try to produce turns out to be nothing but lies, then yes, your theories ARE unsupported. It doesn't help you any to list all the other theories which you've also lied about. That just makes you look like even more of a doofus.
