Don't Sentence Me, Bro!

Turns out that plea was more successful than Andrew Meyer's prior request.

A University of Florida student who was shocked with a Taser after persistently questioning Sen. John Kerry won't face criminal charges and has apologized for his actions, his attorney said Tuesday.

Andrew Meyer, 21, yelled "Don't Tase me, bro!" as he scuffled with officers during the on-campus speech last month. In letters to the university, its president and the campus police department, he apologized, attorney Robert Griscti said.

That Meyer has not completely accepted responsibility for his actions is evident from this self-serving nonsense:

"I'm so sorry that I lost my control in that auditorium," he wrote. "I went there to ask an important question. The question of voter disenfranchisement in America cuts to the heart of our democracy, and my failure to act calmly resulted in this important town forum ending without the discourse intended. For that, I am truly sorry."

I am not sure how much more of this I can do. First I watched Alex Jones' Endgame last week, now I listened to this interview of Judy Wood and Attorney Jerry Leaphart on Kevin Barrett's radio show. My brain hasn't taken that kind of abuse since that week of partying after finals that one year in college...

Idiocy is abundant in this interview. If anyone else is actually stupid enough to listen to the entire two hours (minus commercials) you can hear all sorts of inanities, like Judy Wood saying we need to look at all the "datas" (I am not kidding, I listened to it 4 times to make sure I was hearing it right). At the very end, a caller phones in to say that we need to look at "pro bono", who benefited from the 9/11 attacks....

But in my normal tradition I have to cite at least one quote from this idiocy-fest, at least to provide the potential for a nominee for a Stundie on JREF (I know, I will never beat clunkity-clunk). This week's idiot is Jerry Leaphart, who unbelievably makes Judy Wood look like the intelligent one, while discussing why the rubble pile at ground zero was not high enough.

And then the conventional wisdom also seeks to implant the idea that the sub-basement was so damaged and so filled with debris, and since the sub-basement was 6 levels that lo and behold, and voila, you have your 12 story rubble pile. But you know, even in making the assumptions in the light that is most favorable to the conventional wisdom in my view it still fails. Because the underlying assumption that the piles should be 12 stories tall only applies in the instance where you assume there was one tower. Hello, there were two 110 story towers there! Therefore, you should have two separate 12 story, or 6 story piles, but more likely, since the buildings were so close one to the other, you should really have a 20 story high rubble pile.

Is Ron Paul a CIA Spook?

One of the immutable rules of conspiracy theorists is that everyone gets accused of being a government agent at one point or another. Now it is Ron Paul's turn, as the anti-Semitic site Ziopedia turns its sights on the Man Who Would Save America.

Every day, I am being bombarded with articles and videos on Rep. Ron Paul. The message is always the same: Ron Paul is the only genuine alternative in the next presidential election and the ruling elite is trying really hard to stop him. Like everybody else, I so wish this was true, but given his actions he is far more likely a plant by the ruling elite in an effort to funnel discontent amongst American voters.

Just think about it: Ron Paul and his political advisers are always at pains not to criticise the Jewish lobby. After some preliminary flirts with the 9-11 Truth movement, an effective means of boosting his credentials in the dissident media scene, he now pushes again the old CIA lie, also promoted by Walt-Mearsheimer, that America’s foreign policies are the cause of the 9-11 attacks.

I’m still speechless that most of my fellow dissidents take anything coming from a Harvard professor at face value, a university founded with money earned in the bloody slave trade and stacked with Zionazis such as Alan Dershovitz, and ‘let’s export more American jobs to China’ Gregory Mankiw. All those two heroes of the dissident movement had to do is to confirm a couple of our views on the undue influence of the Jewish lobby on American politics, and we immediately started treating their words like Gospel.

With Ron Paul things aren’t any better. What has he done to earn our trust? Voted against the Iraq war? Big thing. Ron Paul is an olden days ‘small state, small taxes’ man. He votes against pretty much anything that costs money, including social security and medicare. This is not the place to discuss the merits of food vouchers for single mums. All I’m saying is that he has some extreme views on spending tax payers money and that’s where his stance on the Iraq war is coming from.

What made Ron Paul really popular though is his temporary flirt with 9-11 truth. Very clever move! More than half of U.S. citizens believe that the government hasn’t said the truth about what really happened, and more than one third of them believe that their own government was behind the attacks. What a clever move – both from a public relations and a dissent control point of view - to dabble temporarily into 9-11 truthing and then channel all that political energy into a harmless position such as ‘it’s our foreign policy’s fault.’ Classic gatekeeping!!!

Ahh, classic paranoia.

Is Alex Jones a LaRouche Kook?

Okay, this is coming a little out of left field, but after forcing myself to watch a little more of Alex Jones' fruitcake mockumentary Endgame, I was stunned to see that old leatherlungs is a Queen Elizabeth crackpot. In a bizarre segment beginning at about 1:20:40, Jones intones over a video of the Queen greeting some folks:

"It is important to add that the President is merely a puppet of the global crime syndicate and may not use the new powers, but simply pass them on for use by future puppet administrations."

The clear inference is that Queen Elizabeth is part of the global crime syndicate. Alex is hinting she may be running a puppet administration in Washington. This is of course LaRouche writ large.

Jones goes on to present courageous segments against Mao, Pol Pot, Stalin, Hitler and Idi Amin. Somehow Idi doesn't make the final Rogues' Gallery, though:



Now that is just plain weird, and it's weird in a Lyndon LaRouche way. LaRouche has always had a fixation on the British royalty, as is well-documented, claiming that Queen Elizabeth heads up the international drug trade. Now, just as it is dawning on Truthers that LaRouche is inside the house, Alex Jones puts out this obvious appeal to the LaRouche kooks.

But if you'll sit down and talk with her for an unedited interview, she has now told The BRAD BLOG during an exclusive interview, she will now tell you everything she knows.

Yawn. Remember, Sibel was hired after 9-11. She claims to have huge 9-11 relevations, but I suspect she's just stroking everybody along to keep her name in the news.

Another Sheen For the Troof

Adding to his son Charlie (who will not be narrating Loose Change 4.0 evidently) Alex Jones is now announcing that actor and long-time political activist Martin Sheen is now coming out for the troof.

Actor Martin Sheen questioned the collapse of the WTC twin towers as well as Building 7 and NORAD's response to the 9/11 attacks during an anti-war march this past weekend in Los Angeles.

Sheen was interviewed by We Are Change L.A. along with fellow actor Mark Ruffalo during an event hosted by the ANSWER Coalition at which around 20,000 people attended.

I don't know, I am waiting to hear what Emilio Estevez has to say on this issue before I make my mind up...

Steyn on the Truthers

The column is mostly about Iraq, but he does nail a bit on the fruitcakes:

Check out the comments section on this post over at the Huffpo; there are over 1,500 comments so far, many of them from the fruitcakes repeating the same nonsense about Marvin Bush and the size of the hole in the Pentagon.

And predictably, one Troofer's already claiming that Bill's really on their side:

Clinton is also intelligent enough to know that he simply cannot come out and say that "911 Was an inside job".
He knows this.
Therefore he does the next best thing.
In fact, the ONLY thing he can do.

All this for one simple reason.

I don't know if I will manage to get through the entire 2+ hours of nuttiness, but I must say that if you take it as a campy horror film. it is actually fairly entertaining. Kind of an Invasion of the Body Snatchers for the anti-globalist set. I also see definite possibilities for a drinking game. Every time someone says "New World Order", you have to take a shot. Now let me go get my vodka...

If Bill Clinton Were Running Again...

We'd give him our endorsement after this smackdown of the fruitcakes:

Clinton's 50-minute speech, which started about an hour behind schedule, was derailed briefly by several hecklers in the audience who shouted that the 2001 terrorist attacks were a fraud. Rather than ignoring them, Clinton seemed to relish a direct confrontation.

"A fraud? No, it wasn't a fraud," Clinton said, as the crowd cheered him on. "I'll be glad to talk to you if you shut up and let me talk."

When another heckler shouted that the attacks were an "inside job," Clinton took even greater umbrage.

"An inside job? How dare you. How dare you. It was not an inside job," Clinton said. "You guys have got to be careful, you're going to give Minnesota a bad reputation."

Our kudos to the former president for passing his 9-11 Troof test with an A! I imagine some video will be available of this eventually.

Okay, just kidding. I'm actually amused at this effort by a DU conspiracy theorist. Oooh, look, two different photos of a guy and the face is almost exactly the same in both photos! Neeneenoonee!

Veterans for Holocaust Denial?

The truthers keep on attacking us for bringing up Holocaust denial and the 9/11 "truth" movement, but it is not our fault that the links keep on popping up. The same twisted imagination, contempt for history and logic that allow you to believe that Auschwitz was a "caring place" (in Eric William's words) lead you to believe that the Jews/NWO/Bilderbergers secretly carried out 9/11. Here is another example from Alfons, the founder of Veterans for 9/11 Truth, that elite organization which counts among its members Lauro Chavez, Guy Razer and Donn de Grand Pre (also a Holocaust denier no less).

Alfons is probably one of the saddest characters of the 9/11 movement. I have this image of him sitting alone at home weeping over his monitor about why nobody will pay attention to him. In this MP3, nominally a radio show, but entirely a soliloquy on his part, he mostly rails against the recent Glenn Beck clip, which we posted below, and 23 minutes in, he has this to say in response to it:

Now they are saying that the 9/11 truthers are Holocaust deniers. I don't have any problem with people who do research into the Holocaust and find out that the story isn't true. There is a whole bunch of things surrounding 9/11, I mean World War II, and the history of it, the history of World War II, there is a whole bunch of things that are covered up and not right.

Uhh, sorry Alfons, the story is true, and I have a problem with that.

What Movie Inspired This Nuttitorial?

My guess is Terrorstorm, given some of the dumb things this guy believes:

The USS Liberty incident is just one of a myriad of "operations" throughout U.S. history perpetrated by our government.

And here I thought it was perpetrated by the Israelis.

Going back further in history, one can cite the Gulf of Tonkin incident. This incident took us to Vietnam, cost 60,000 American lives and never happened.

Of course, "never happened" is a gross mischaracterization. The first Gulf of Tonkin incident did happen; it was the second that is questioned today.

Perhaps now, as the true nature of these events is finally beginning to be a matter of public awareness, a new Sept. 11, 2001, investigation can be demanded and completed by special, nonpartisan prosecutors. Let the cards fall where they may, answering all questions and corroborating all evidence without the ubiquitous gaps and deletions of the 9/11 commission.

Yawn.

It is time we follow and trace the direct line from these institutions to others, namely the Federal Reserve which, contrary to popular understanding, is a private bank and not at all a federal agency. This is the same Federal Reserve that prints dollars and loans them to the government at interest to pay for these wars and then it is repaid with our tax dollars.

People Catching Onto the Insanity of the Troofers

James posted a little below the video where Glenn Beck compares the Troofers to Timothy McVeigh. I have commented in the past about how the more radical contingent, like the We Are Change WACs, remind me of the Weather Underground.

Reviewing the kooks' performance last week on Bill Maher's show, Dave Nalle hits the same theme:

As they marginalize themselves more and more with their ridiculous claims and increasingly outrageous behavior, I'm afraid we can expect to see more and more desperate and extreme attention-seeking behavior. That's the pattern of the kind of narcissistic mindset which drives conspiracy fanatics. It's even believable that in the ultimate irony, as they retreat into a world of paranoia and frustration, the 9/11 conspiracy fanatics might themselves turn to violent terrorism to get the attention they so desperately crave. It's easy to laugh at the conspiracists, but it's a grim truth that someone protesting Bill Maher this week might be the next Timothy McVeigh or Ted Kaczynski a few frustrated and ignored years down the road.

Christopher Bollyn is back, and not letting his status as an on-the-run felon interfere with his position as the 9/11 "truth" movement's leading investigative journalist. In this in-depth report titled "The Planes of 9-11", he comes to the conclusion (surprise) that the Jews did it.

I cannot abide mass murder, occupation, and genocidal wars of aggression. Nor can I accept the corruption of our values and destruction of our basic American rights to suit an artificially imposed "war on terror."


With the passage of time, it is now clear that 9-11 was carried out in order to kick-start the perverse Zionist Zeitgeist called the "war on terror" with its pre-planned wars of aggression and occupation.

Most of this stuff is pretty offensive, but I was amused once again by this bit.

There are many observations about these planes which suggest they were not the civilian airliners they are said to have been. The plane that struck the South Tower, for example, had shapes, bulges, and holes which have led many analysts to believe it was a Boeing 767-300 refueling tanker that had been disguised as a 767-200 United Airlines passenger jet.

I have seen this theory mentioned at one time or another by just about every major figure in the troof movement. Apparently it has never occurred to them to do any research to find out just how many 767 refuelers (known as KC-767s) were in existence in 2001. The answer is none, since the first one was not produced until 2005 for the Italian Air Force.

A Response to Mikey Metz

Well, it took awhile, but somebody's finally responded to Mikey Metz's blog post denouncing the 9-11 Truth Movement. Of course, it's the usual Troofer stew of mistakes, lies and logical leaps.

There are reasons to doubt the hijacker story. I remain agnostic on this question of whether they did it, but I can see both sides.

1) The identities are in doubt, yet the government refused to correct them, or to admit they were unsure.

People whose photos appeared as the FBI's hijackers turned up alive. This is very strange.

Very strange indeed.

We recently asked the FBI for a statement, and this is, as things stand, the closest thing we have to a definitive view: The FBI is confident that it has positively identified the nineteen hijackers responsible for the 9/11 terrorist attacks. Also, the 9/11 investigation was thoroughly reviewed by the National Commission on Terrorist Attacks Upon the United States and the House and Senate Joint Inquiry. Neither of these reviews ever raised the issue of doubt about the identity of the nineteen hijackers.

2) The Pentagon plane maneuver could not have been performed by the pilot the government says was in control. Thus say numerous professional pilots. This is a discrepancy. The Pentagon plane is highly suspicous for many reason (which I don't see you acknowledging).

As we discussed last year, a Dutch TV program testing the 9-11 Conspiracy theories featured the host attempting to hit the Pentagon in a flight simulator. Despite not having anywhere near Hani Hanjour's experience level, the host was able to hit the target three times in as many attempts.

3) There has been no proof shown to the public that the men the government say did it actually got on the plane. Where are the airport videos, with time codes?

He might as well ask, where is the video from the plane itself. Surely there is a photo of Mohamed Atta being greeted by the flight attendants? The simple fact is that there were not security cameras filming people boarding their planes. As far as I know, these cameras do not exist even today.

4) This plot was known about by US intelligence before the fact, and that makes it even more suspicious. If it was indeed an "inside job" then Cheney/Rumsfeld et al. would probably not leave it up to suicide hijackers to determine the outcome.

Of course, no evidence is provided that "this plot was known about by US intelligence", and that's a might big "if".

5) There are other ways to hijack a plane, remotely using the plane's onboard flight control system.

According to Captain Sherlock, you mean?

The rest of it is just as weak. Check out this part:

There was a lot of planted evidence that seemed to implicate radical Muslims. FBI investigators complained about it. Planted evidence and hidden evidence are not very confidence building.

Yes, there is no link to show that FBI investigators complained about "planted" evidence.

The black boxes of the planes at the WTC were recovered by fireman Nicholas Demassi. The FBI claims they were never found. We have no data, to date, from those black boxes.

There has always been some skepticism about this assertion, particularly as two N.Y. City firefighters, Mike Bellone and Nicholas De Masi, claimed in 2004 that they had found three of the four boxes, and that Federal agents took them and told the two men not to mention having found them. (The FBI denies the whole story.)

Of course, Bellone is a phony fireman as we have discussed in the past.

Michael Bellone, the self-proclaimed "honorary New York firefighter," who spoke to 100-200 people at Concordia University about the events of 9-11 is a "fraud," according to New York Fire Marshal Conrad Tinney.

"It wasn't until two years later that we began getting complaints about him," Tinney said. "We have one honorary firefighter and that is a child from the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Aside from the child, it is normally the chiefs and those above who are made honorary firefighters and he (Bellone) isn't one. He's saying he was made an honorary firefighter by New York Fire Commissioner Nicholas Scoppetta. That's a fallacy."

Loose Change: The Final Insult Release Official

The previously announced Internet release date for Loose Change version 4 is now apparently "official".

The film will first be available online as a digital media download at PrisonPlanet.com, Infowars.com and LooseChange911.com on November 11th, and orders will be taken for the DVD that same day before being shipped out on November 26th.

With spin like this though, they should seriously consider a career in politics.

The film will be subject to selected cinematic release in 2008, but many grassroots and selected theatres have already agreed to pick up the movie from December onwards across the U.S and Europe and the Loose Change team are encouraging activists to ask that their local theatre to screen the documentary.

"Many of you have asked us about a mainstream theater release and are aware that we spent considerable time in Hollywood negotiating with different producers," reads the Loose Change press release. "After many weeks of consideration, we decided that a Hollywood release just isn't right for Loose Change. In order to access the normal "big movie" distribution channels, we would have to relinquish editorial control of the film. This just wasn't an option for us, as the integrity of our message is ultimately all that we have, and we feared that "the machine" would corrupt or squash our film and its movement."

"We have decided to challenge the traditional marketing channels and reinvent the way that films are distributed," it adds.

Yeah, otherwise, you couldn't get anyone to stand behind your crappy film, despite your promises of 3,000 screens and a $20 million budget, so you had to stick with your usual Google video solution.

I loved the optimistic ending though.

The release of Final Cut will no doubt be met with a fresh offensive of Neo-Con attack propaganda and attempted debunking, but with polls showing an increasing amount of people having grave concerns about the official 9/11 story, its arrival will herald a new leap forward for the 9/11 truth movement and signify the next step in educating the world about what really happened on September 11, 2001.

An increasing amount of people? That would be 4.6% in your latest poll. Heck, last year you were claiming 84%!

Ron Paul's Holocaust Denying Buddies

Yet another example of the idiocy of the Paultards. To give a little background, there is a MySpace page for a new Holocaust Denial film called "El Gran Tabu", aka the Great Taboo by longtime Holocaust fruitcake Bradley Smith.

El Gran Tabu has 1,426 friends as of today. MySpace allows people to add friends either by having the friends request to be added, or by having the friends accept your request to add them. Among El Gran Tabu's friends is a MySpace page called "Ron Paul 2008". Now, this is not the official Ron Paul MySpace page, but apparently one put up by a fan. But that Ron Paul MySpace Page has its own friends list, and the #1 friend shown there is the official Ron Paul MySpace page.

So a Ron Paul supporter is a friend of a Holocaust-denying film and Ron Paul's campaign is a friend of that Ron Paul supporter. Yes, I am aware that the campaign probably accepts any friends who request to be added, but it shows the downside of that policy.

How Many Mistakes Can You Find

This is almost like Loose Change 2; it's a veritable treasure hunt of mistakes, gaffes, distortions and outright lies.

The third steel-frame tower to ever fall, Tower 7, wasn’t hit by a plane, only some scattered debris. The fires in it were put out by the firemen. But the owner of Tower 7, Lucky Larry Silverstein, decided at 3:30 pm that there had been “such pain and suffering” that he decided to have it “pulled,” which is the pro’s term for controlled internal demolition.

And so, at about 5:30 pm, hardly two hours later, Tower 7 went boom, boom, boom, boom, boom and so on, down neatly into its footprint. And Lucky Larry made $500 million on the insurance, not to mention the billions in insurance on the lease he and his partners, among them the Blackstone Group, held for the WTC; the insurance that was raised by them a month before the attack to $3.5 billion and to include attack by terrorists. Subsequently, Larry asked for $7.1 billion back because it was two hits. But he and his pals had to settle for about $4.5 billion, poor babies.

Now a trailer has been released for the movie version, starring Tom Hanks and Julia Roberts, so those of you who haven't managed to read it will soon be able to enjoy it. Quote Miners for 9/11 Truth

One thing that continually amazes me about the truthers is that they continue to lie and misrepresent things, even when they don't really need to. I guess they are so fixated on their goal of defeating their supposed enemies, that the ends really matter, not the means. One example is this post on 911 Blogger regarding a speech Paul Wolfowitz made to a West Point class in June 2001, under the headline, "101 Days Before 9/11: Paul Wolfowitz Hints At Our Future And His"

"This year marks the sixtieth anniversary of a military disaster whose name has become synonymous with surprise - the attack on Pearl Harbor ... military history is full of surprises ... Surprise happens so often that it’s surprising that we’re still surprised by it ... At the beginning of the last century, the British economist Norman Angell published a runaway best seller ... his book, The Great Illusion. International finance, he argued, had become so interdependent and so interwoven with trade and industry that it had rendered war unprofitable ... 'Before you leave the Army … you will be engaged in another war.'"

Deputy Secretary of Defense, Paul Wolfowitz - West Point Commencement - June 2, 2001

The implication being that Wolfowitz had some sort of inside knowledge of the cadets being "engaged in another war".

If you look closely though, you will find two sets of quotation marks, in fact, these aren't Wolfowitz's words, he is quoting someone, from 1903:

A century ago, on a peaceful day in 1903, with great foresight, Secretary of War Elihu Root told Douglas MacArthur’s graduating class, "Before you leave the Army…you will be engaged in another war. It is bound to come, and will come. Prepare your country."

Now Wolfowitz does go on to say that "One day, you too you will be tested in combat", but this is hardly an ominous prediction, on the contrary it is something we would expect an assistant Secretary of Defense to say, especially given the numerous times that Army soldiers have found themselves in combat situations over the previous twenty years, Panama, Desert Storm and Somalia coming to mind immediately.

Moron the Browns

Turns out the guy who introduced the marshals into the house was their number one fan, a guy who established this webpage for them. The account appears in this story:

"He swarmed us. I had the opportunity to stop Dutch, real quick and real brief. You know I'm really fast," Brown says in the recording. "I'm not going to hurt anybody, and I don't want to hurt anybody. On the same token, I let it go down and let it happen. But I did not expect this."

The call was recorded by Shaun Kranish, an Illinois supporter who started a Brown-devoted website and, according to Brown, was the one who introduced Dutch to the Browns. In the recording, Kranish says that he told prison officials he was part of Brown's legal team to place the call. (Ed Brown does not have a lawyer, because he believes all bar members are part of an international conspiracy to rob Americans of their freedoms.)

Yet another example of the Keystone Crooks nature of the Patriot movement. We talked earlier about how one of the We Are Change WACs, crashed their SUV while running errands for them. It's also reminiscent of Dylan's Secret Agent man trip to NEADS, which resulted in Korey's arrest for desertion.

Zadroga Case Raises Eyebrows

I'll admit it; on it's face this looks more like New York City politics than medical reasoning.

James Zadroga, the 34-year-old retired police detective who died of respiratory failure after working hundreds of hours at the World Trade Center site, was often cited by those advocates as a "sentinel case" — the first health-related casualty linked to ground zero, suggesting there would be more to follow.

The city's medical examiner stunned that community this week in a letter declaring that Zadroga's death had nothing to do with the toxic air he breathed while working at ground zero.

"It is our unequivocal opinion, with certainty beyond doubt, that the foreign material in your son's lungs did not get there as the result of inhaling dust at the World Trade Center or elsewhere," said the letter to Zadroga's father. It was signed by Hirsch and another medical examiner, Michele Slone. The letter was obtained Thursday by The Associated Press.

I am reasonably sure they must have some evidence backing up that opinion; let's see it, and let's see if the family can get a medical expert who disputes that evidence. I am not going to say reflexively that the decision is wrong. It certainly deserves more explanation.

Update: Our buddy Hey Nonny in the comments points out that Zadroga died of black lung disease and mercury on the brain. Confirmation here.

This claim certainly makes me a little leery:

Detective James Zadroga was one of the first responders to the World Trade Center. He was inside 7 World Trade Center when it began to collapse.

That makes no sense to me at all.

Okay, now I'm starting to enjoy the Ed Brown affair. Alex Jones reports the latest from poor Ed.

In a disturbing audio clip, Ed Brown speaks for the first time since his arrest and relates how he was gassed by noxious fumes for three days in a detention center as well as being put in a deprivation tank for 15 hours.

It's a new holocaust, if it isn't the first. Fifteen hours! As for the three day-gassing; that sounds awfully expensive and inefficient. But the horrors are only beginning:

For the first time, Brown reveals what happened when he was tricked and arrested by U.S. Marshals, including how he was tasered multiple times.

And each time he yelled, "Don't tase me, bro! What did I do?"

Brown said his captors were treating him with "professional cruelty" and mentioned that they had also done harrowing things to his wife following her arrest, but refused to go into detail.

Yes, Ed, please spare us the details.

Soldier Kook Story Bound to Get Some Play

This is a very interesting story:

According to unnamed military sources contacted by The Iconoclast, SFC Buswell "used his Government issued email account to send messages disloyal to the United States …" Because of these statements, SFC Buswell could soon find himself dishonorably discharged, court martialed, or worse.

The content of those emails is discussed later, including this:

I say Occums (sic) razor is the best way to deduce this ‘day of infamy’; if you weigh all options, do some simple studying you will see 911 was clearly not executed by some arabs in caves with cell phones and 3 day old newspapers! I mean how are Arabs benefiting from pulling off 911? They have more war, more death and dismal conditions, so, how did 911 benefit them? Answer: It didn’t. So, who benefited from 9-11? The answer is sad, but simple; The Military Industial [sic] Complex.

It’s not a paranoid conspiracy to think there are conspiracies out there...and, it’s not Liberal Lunacy either, nor is it Conservative Kookiness! People, fellow citizens we’ve been had! We must demand a new independent investigation into 911 and look at all options of that day, and all plausabilities [sic], even the most incredulous theories must be examined.

Lord only knows what he means by "cellphones and 3 day old newspapers". I'll leave the discussion of whether he should be disciplined to those with military experience; certainly I anticipate that he will become something of a cause celebre among the kooks. I can absolutely understand why the military doesn't want him anymore.

Just How Stupid is David Ray Griffin?

David Ray Griffin continues to show that he will stick with any myth, no matter how stupid. Yesterday he appeared on a radio show on KGNU (available here starting about 17 minutes in) doing his "Debunking 9/11 Debunking" bit. Amazingly, he still tries his air defenses at the Pentagon story, despite still having no evidence beyond his argument from personal incredulity. Incredibly he now even adds the claim that "many buildings" have air defenses. Oh really? Can I get some for my garage?

Well, many buildings have missiles on them, anti-aircraft missiles. And the airspace that is over this triangle, that connects the White House and the Pentagon, is prohibited airspace. That means it is not only restricted, it is absolutely prohibited to any commercial aircraft. And so, you would know, and many people have said, that there are anti-aircraft missiles on the Pentagon, which are sensitive to any unfriendly transponders, and that would mean, only military planes are allowed to fly over there. And so if you had a commercial aircraft, it would automatically be shot down. So those would have had to have been turned off.

Yeah, whatever you say Dave...

About 35 minutes in "Harry from Toronto" (Cannuck in the comments) calls in and recommends people check out http://screwloosechange.blogspot.com/ (thanks for the mention). Griffin, of course, dismisses this blog as "absolutely ridiculous nonsense" (considering the source, probably best endorsement we have ever received) and suggests people check out the Architects and Engineers site. The whole exchange is excellent, but too long to transcribe, so I highly suggest you download the MP3 and listen to that part at least.

Later on Griffin makes an admission as to how crappy the first 2 (3 really) versions of Loose Change were:

There were some problems in the first two versions of Loose Change. Loose Change: Final Cut will be coming out pretty soon, I happen to be the script consultant for it and you won’t find the kinds of problems in it that can be picked apart and used to discredit the whole thing, the way you could in Loose Change 2.

Kind of like people who support really bad football teams. Yeah, you just wait until next year!

And finally Griffin makes another admission, that even after 5 books on the subject, and a 6th on the way, he still doesn't even bother to figure out what actually happened.

I don’t get into these questions as to what really happened and develop a theory about it. My own focus is on the evidence that the official story is false.

Yeah, we know that Dave. If you actually had to say what happened and defend your hypothesis, well, you know how ugly that would get.

Moron That Aspen Kook Steve Campbell

Apparently the airing of the Holocaust Denial film was canceled for good this time, but Adam Holland discovered that Campbell, the head of his local 9-11 "Truth" group, is apparently working in concert with neo-Nazis.

I've made the disturbing discovery that Steve Campbell, the "9/11 truth activist" in question, is not only telecasting anti-Semitic material on his local public access station, but may, in fact, be working in concert with a neo-Nazi. The neo-Nazi in question, Mark Farrell distributes Nazi and racist videos through a company called "Honest Media Today" in Cincinnati. His oeuvre includes such blood libel propaganda as "Ritual Murder Revisited: The Hidden Cult" and "Human Sacrifice among the Fanatical Hasidic Jews and Other Cults from Ancient Times to the Present", as well as "The Truth about 9-11: How Jewish Manipulation Killed Thousands", "The Hitlerian Homily", and "Rep. Paul Findley Dares to Speak Out--Again--on DVD: A 22-Year Veteran U.S. Congressman Exposes Israel's Lobby". He also promotes material supporting Matt Hale, the racist leader convicted of soliciting the murder of a federal judge. More to the point, Mark Farrell distributes "Judea Declares War on Germany", the Holocaust-denying, Protocols-promoting video (produced by the Adelaide Institute) that Steve Campbell wants to telecast to his neighbors in Colorado.

I found the film, Judea Declares War Against Germany, available on Google Video. While every bit as odious as you might expect, it also is of startlingly poor quality. Maybe it's just the ready availability of the more recent footage, but any 9-11 Denial film that was as shoddily produced as this would never get any traction among the kooks.

I still say the real story isn't that this Public Access TV station finally woke up to the crap that Steve Campbell was airing when he tried to slip a Holocaust Denial film past them. It's that they didn't wake up when he started airing 9-11 Denial films.

The Chameleon Truth Movement

Sigh. One of the things that never fails to annoy me about the Troofers is the old standbye, "No true Scotsman argument." Point out that Eric Hufschmid is an anti-semite, and a segment of the "Truth" movement will tell you that Eric Hufschmid is not a real "Truther". Point out the ridiculous claim that no plane hit the Pentagon, and a segment will say that no real Troofers, etc.

And it's not entirely a dodge; we certainly know dyed-in-the-wool 9-11 Deniers who are not anti-semites and who accept that Flight 77 hit the Pentagon. But it does make it hard to accept this as a real movement. It's like the folks who like chocolate ice cream and the folks who hate chocolate ice cream getting together and saying they may disagree on flavors, but they're still the "ice cream" movement.

That's how I feel about this essay.

Chip Berlet is a leftist writer who opposes the 9/11 Truth movement. In my opinion, he raises valid objections to what he calls “conspiracism” (which he distinguishes from the kinds of conspiracies that are actually likely to exist). But he wrongly classifies, as full-blown “conspiracism,” the idea that 9/11 was an inside job. Thus he echoes what seems to be a key propaganda ploy on the part of those covering up major crimes by high-level people within the U.S. government, namely lumping the evidence for such crimes together with some truly wacky (and truly dangerous) ideas to create the stereotype of the nutty “conspiracy theorist.” Berlet also, apparently, either ignores or has not yet looked at some of the better evidence for government complicity in the attacks of 9/11. On the other hand, I also think that what Berlet calls “conspiracism” is a genuine and dangerous trap which too many people in both the 9/11 Truth movement and the anti-war movement have fallen into, and it would be wise to pay attention to critiques of same.

Elsewhere, e.g. in The New Pearl Harbor: A Debate On A New Book That Alleges The Bush Administration Was Behind The 9/11 Attacks, Berlet correctly refutes some of the weaker arguments made by people in the 9/11 Truth movement, such as the claim that the Pentagon was hit by something other than a 757. However, by no means does everyone in the 9/11 Truth movement endorse the latter claim. (See Pentagon no-757 theories: debunkings from within the 9/11 Truth movement.) Berlet falsely claims that such flimsy arguments are characteristic of the entire 9/11 Truth movement, ignoring mountains of better evidence for government complicity in the attacks of 9/11. (For a good summary of a lot of the better evidence, see 911proof.com.)

She goes on to point out that many "Truthers" do not believe in the Illuminati, or other secret societies; which would be a whole lot stronger section were it not for this:

That’s Bilderberg, not Bilderburg, and it’s not just a “banking group.” It’s a privately-organized, highly secretive off-the-record gathering of powerful people, both from the governments of many different countries and from large corporations of various kinds. (See Bilderberg: The ultimate conspiracy theory by Jonathan Duffy, Thursday, 3 June, 2004, on the BBC News site.) While it probably does not micromanage the world to the extent that many “conspiracists” believe, it certainly is a vehicle of multinational corporate influence on the governments of many different countries - and probably, in many cases, against the best interests of the general publics of those countries.

But again, just because she does not believe in the Illuminati, we're supposed to ignore that lots of other people in the movement do? And we should not lump the Bilderberg conspiracy nutbars with the Illuminati fruitcakes and the CFR wackos?

I'm trying to think of another group of people who disagree so vehemently on everything other than the name for their movement, and yet really constitute a movement. Is there significant fragmentation in the peace movement? They all just want an end to the war, right? There may be some variation in how long they're willing to maintain a US presence in Iraq, but basically they're all on the same page. The "Truth" movement isn't even in the same book.

Quote Miners for 9/11 Truth

Some truthers are all ecstatic over a letter from the National Institute of Standards and Technology posted at the George Washington Blog.

While the reply is mainly bogus, and the filers of the petition intend to appeal the decision of NIST not to correct the many fatal errors in its reports, attorney James Gourley (who drafted the petition) has pointed out one interesting statement. Specifically, NIST says in its reply:

"We are unable to provide a full explanation of the total collapse".

Well, yes! That's exactly the point the petitioners are trying to make. No modern steel frame high-rise building has ever collapsed before or after 9/11 due to fire other than at WTC 1, 2 and 7, even though other fires have burned longer and hotter. And even if they somehow did start to collapse, the collapse would not have occurred at virtual free-fall speeds while creating enormous dust clouds right from the start.

Kevin "Hang 'em High" Barrett even managed to bizarrely interpret this as:

In an amazing about-face, the National Institute for Standards and Technology (NIST) has implicitly admitted that its 10,000-page report on the destruction of the Twin Towers is a fraud, and that the buildings were destroyed by controlled demolition.

If you read the actual letter though, and not just the part of that one sentence they quote, you will find though that what NIST is talking about is the goal of their report, and the difficulty in making a detailed computer modeling of the full collapse. It is not, in fact suggesting that the total collapse was anomalous or unexpected, or supporting the controlled demolition theory in any way, implicit or otherwise (emphasis added):

F. The Goal of the WTC Report and Its Overall Analysis.

The final section of your request asserts that the WTC Report's stated goal and overal analysis violates the Data Quality Act and OMB/NIST Information Quality Standards. The basis given for this assertion is that NIST did not fulfill its responsibilities under the NCST Act because the focus of the investigation was on the sequence of events from the instant of aircraft impact to the initiation of collapse for each tower. The NCST Act, as you note in your letter, requires NIST to "establish the likely technical cause or causes of the building failure." In the case of the WTC Towers, NIST has established that the failures initiated in the floors affected by the aircraft impact damage and the ensuing fires resulted in the collapse of the towers. This conclusion is supported by a large body of visual evidence collected by NIST. Your letter suggests that NIST should have used computer models to analyze the collapse of the towers. NIST carried its analysis to the point where the buildings reached global instability. At this point, because of the magnitude of the deflections and the number of failures occuring, the computer models are not able to converge on a solution.

Your letter contends that NIST's report violates the Information Quality Standard of "utility." NIST believes that the report has utility. In fact, the codes and standards bodies are already taking actions to improve building and fire codes and standards based on the findings of the WTC Investigation. As we mentioned previously, we are unable to provide a full explanation- of the total collapse.

Fruitcakes Seize on One Sentence

In a letter that basically says "You're a bunch of retards." NIST responds to Steven Jones and others.

"In your letter, you assert that..."

"At every step of its analysis, NIST was able to validate the analytical results against the extensive collection of photographic and video evidence recorded on September 11."

You further assert in your letter...

The full analysis of the more severe case is therefore based on a logical reduction in the full analysis tree through an orthogonal factorial design approach and through validation by comparison to the observable data.

But to listen to the kooks, you'd think there's only one sentence in the whole report:

"As we mentioned previously, we are unable to provide a full explanation of the total collapse."

As you can imaging, the corks on the non-alcoholic wine are popping at the Barrett household:

Well, It Convinced One Skeptic

Oh, my goodness!

7 Amtrak Passenger cars. (Aluminum skin over steel frame, with windows, carpet and seats, and some wiring. Sound familiar?)

2 motorcycles. (Two high speed projectiles, largely comprised of aluminum, a little steel, and some fuel)

Please connect two trains so that they are in pairs of three (much like the WTC Towers were really three 33 story buildings atop one another). Place them at the highest point in Iowa, and spot them side by side on a pair of rails. For argument's sake, even let the skeptic stack the cars vertically, if they feel it is warranted.

Please spot the seventh (WTC 7?) just a little ways away on a siding.

Now, ask them to run the motorcycles as fast as they can go, one each, right into the sides of the train cars. Allow them a modest fire where the bikes went in.

Ask them if it would make sense, if an HOUR after the bikes hit the trains, the entire train exploded into dust. Further, that FIVE hours later, the 7 car that was on the siding all by itself, also exploded into dust, just from the shock of what it had seen.

Oh, so the skeptic can stack the train cars atop each other?

Who's the Best Debunker?

Over at 9-11 Blogger, there is a great deal of concern about a questionnaire sent out by a NYC psychology student. Nick Levis, last seen backpedaling furiously from a debate proposal with Mark (Gravy) Roberts, urges his fellow crackpots not to answer the questions. It's the usual fruitcake paranoia time:

While certain to be inaccurate due to methodology, and invalid due to its inherent assumptions, the results of the survey may still affect those who self-identify as "truth movement members" by either reinforcing or discouraging opinions they already hold. This will favor group-think over critical assessment of one's own chosen facts and opinions. Are we genuine skeptics or followers? Are we activists or navel-gazers?

The questions were posted in the comments section (under "Feel free to vote down and collapse). It's pretty non-controversial, but I did like this question:

Effective is of course a very subjective word, especially in this context. It's like asking a creationist who's the best at arguing the evolution side.

The New General Strike

It's hard to believe that these people are serious. Noting that the September 11 general strike was ineffective and ignored, Alex Floum suggests:

Instead of taking a whole day off, let's take 5 minutes off. Almost everyone can sneak away from work for 5 minutes. Everyone can stop shopping for 5 minutes. Many students can make an excuse and get away from their class for 5 minutes.

If, instead of a couple of thousand people engaging in a general strike, we can get a lot of people to take 5 minutes off, it will send a clear message to the wanna-be emperors in Washington, D.C. and elsewhere that we're here, we're awake, and we know that we have the power to shut down the whole economic, social and political machine if we want.

I propose every Tuesday at 10:03 a.m. local time. Why 10:03? That is the time that the 9/11 attacks ended, and the last hijacked plane crashed, according to the 9/11 Commission. Because many of our freedoms have been taken away since the horrible attacks of 9/11, and two wars (and counting) waged based upon 9/11, and because numerous highly-credible people question the 9/11 Commission's findings, the Tuesday at 10:03 a.m. time is appropriate.

So take 5 minutes once a week to walk out of work or school (and don't buy anything for those 5 minutes). EVERYONE can spare 5 minutes. And if enough of us do it, we will send a message loud enough to be heard by the powers-that-be.

Yeah, that will bring down the system! But instead of 5 minutes, I suggest 5 seconds. Or better still, five milliseconds! Everybody can spare that much time!

David Ray Griffin and the Fone Faker

In Pat's previous post he commented on David Ray Griffin's latest article in his pathetic "fake phone call" argument. Once I got over the whole offensive nature of the argument, I was most interested in the following claim he was making:

In D9D, however, I pointed out that already in 1999, Washington Times journalist William Arkin reported witnessing a demonstration in which the voices of Generals Carl Steiner and Colin Powell were perfectly duplicated. I also reported an advertisement for a voice changer said to be good enough for people to fool their spouses.[5] I am not sure, therefore, why Kornkven considers implausible the suggestion that Deena Burnett was fooled four times.

That advertisement, which identifies by name further on in the article is the "Fone Faker". This feature is even described on their website:

Can I change my voice?

FoneFaker allows you to select either a Male or Female voice when making a call. The feature works in real-time and allows the caller to speak in a normal tone - the person on the other end of the line will hear the changed voice.

What Griffin is lying about though, is that the voice changer does not disguise your voice as someone in particular, but just makes your voice unidentifiable. It does not allow someone else to fool your spouse into thinking they are you, it just makes it so you can call your spouse and they can't tell who it is (at least that is what they claim). This is a rather trivial feature that has been available in children's toys for years. As far as the Washington Post article, the scientist behind that device has specifically commented that his device could not be used as implied, for starters it was based off a recording.

What is next, is he going to start arguing for the Star Wars Death Beam theory based off of a laser pointer he saw in the Sharper Image catalog?

Lynn's kind of a batting practice "Truther"; note that one of her factoids is "six hijackers are still alive." I had a long discussion with her at the 9-11 Denial of Accountability Conference. She says she's seen ten miracles in her life; if Jane Harman pushes ahead with impeachment that will be eleven.

Note as well the way Harman bristles at the "Misprision of Treason" bit. This is one of the latest gambits by the kooks. Misprision of Treason is indeed a federal offense:

In the United States, misprision of treason is a federal offense, committed where someone who has knowledge of the commission of any treason against the United States, does not inform the President, a federal judge or state Governor or judge (18 U.S.C. § 2382). It is punishable by a fine and up to 7 years in prison.

But of course by bringing this up, the Troofers are just going to infuriate powerful people. And an obvious question for Lynn: Have you informed the President, a federal judge or state governor or judge?

Griffin Questions Tom Burnett's Choice, Insults Other Callers

Now this is really offensive stuff from the supposed kindly old man of 9-11 "Truth".

He is right to say that this would have been a stupid thing for the fake Tom to have said. But evidently lots of stupid things were said by those making the calls. For example, the person who called Mark Bingham’s mother reportedly said: “Mom, this is Mark Bingham.”[14] Have any of us, even in the most stressful situations, identified ourselves to our own mothers by using our last name? With regard to the person who was supposedly Tom Burnett: In his fourth call, Deena Burnett tells him that their kids are asking to talk to him, but “Tom” replies: “Tell them I’ll talk to them later.”[15] This was after he had told her that he had realized that the hijackers were on a suicide mission, planning to “crash this plane into the ground,” so that he and others had decided they must try to gain control of the plane as soon as they are “over a rural area.” And the hijackers had already killed one person, “Tom” had reported. So if this was the real Tom Burnett, he knew that there was a good chance that he would die in the next few minutes, one way or the other. And yet, rather than taking this probably last opportunity to speak to his children, he told his wife to say that he would “talk to them later.”

Hey, you know what, David? Screw you! Questioning Tom Burnett's decision not to talk to his children when he is in the middle of the most stressful situation in his life is patently offensive. This is not freaking Hollywood where he had plenty of time to say goodbye, he was about to risk his life to save it. How dare you question that decision?

Tom Burnett is a national hero.

NEWSWEEK: In “The Terror Dream” you quote from scores of "trend" stories that were written after 9/11 about the return of the 'manly man,' or single women suddenly becoming desperate to get married, or working mothers quitting their jobs to be stay-at-home moms. Did the connections strike you while they were happening, or was it only when you went back, a few years later, and read all the coverage, that you noticed the pattern?

Susan Faludi: What makes it all the more disturbing is that seems so normal at the time, as ingrained mythology does in times of crisis when you're not thinking clearly. For me, I was somewhat more aware of it than the average person simply because I do so much writing and thinking about sexual politics.

For what it's worth, I think Faludi's a crank just like Uncle Fetzer; the difference is that she's a crank in a media-accepted field. And that is a very flattering picture of her.

The Phoenix area will be a focus next week of the largest terrorism drill ever conducted, testing not only Arizona's disaster readiness, communications network and leaders but evolving plans to secure the Super Bowl next year.

The drill, fourth in a series, takes on added significance because it is the first since Hurricane Katrina in 2005 exposed deep flaws in the government's response to catastrophes and its handling of mass evacuations. It also comes four months before Glendale hosts the Super Bowl, an event that ranks among presidential inaugurations and major political conventions for security precautions.

The drill will take place only in conference rooms, on plasma screens, over telephones and radios and in the imaginations of the thousands of participants. Officials will be reacting to three simultaneous, simulated "dirty bomb" explosions. A dirty bomb uses conventional explosives to spew radioactive waste over a large area.

As you may recall, Captain May prevented a nuclear attack on Portland only last month. Help us, Captain May!

David Ray Griffin: Liar Or Just Sloppy?

I'll go for sloppy on this one. Talking about Barbara Olson's phone calls from Flight 77:

However, the evidence from the Moussaoui trial ruled out this possibility. In its report on AA 77, it listed one attempted call from Barbara Olson, which was “unconnected” and hence lasted “0 seconds.”

This was an astounding discovery. The FBI is part of the Department of Justice. And yet it had undercut the testimony of the DOJ’s former solicitor general, saying in effect that the two calls that he reported had never happened. The implication is that unless Ted Olson had, like Deena Burnett, been duped, he had lied. Although this should have produced front-page headlines, it has thus far not been reported by any mainstream publication.

No, that's not what they said. They did show the one attempted call from Olson. But they also show five other phone calls for which they don't know who the caller was:



You know what this is? It's just another variation on the "Sacred List" lunacy. In Griffin's fevered fantasies, the prosecutors in the Moussaoui trial were so honorable that they did not include the Olson phone calls in their evidence, even as they were dishonorably pursuing a conviction of Moussaoui for involvement in the 9-11 attacks.

What Is Disinformation?

This is freaking hilarious.

Disinformation is:

* Repeating the same factual claims over and over even when people have proven that such claims are contrary to the evidence (for example, the claim that no planes hit the Twin Towers)

Or, you know, that controlled demolition brought down the towers. Or that Flight 77 didn't hit the Pentagon. Or that Flight 93 landed in Cleveland or was shot down over Shanksville.

* Unnecessarily alienating large sections of the population by attacking victims' families, certain religious or ethnic groups, or political parties with no reason

Yes! Now, how many firemen have to be lying about WTC-7?

* Making knowingly false statements about someone

Like Wally Miller? Or Benjamin Chertoff? Or Larry Silverstein?

I Agree With 9-11 Blogger

That this sucks:

Five Maryland families, all of whom agreed to an out-of-court settlement with the airline industry over their loved ones' deaths on Sept. 11, are drawing some pointed criticism for agreeing to keep silent about what they learned during the course of the lawsuit.

The families, who chose not to receive money through the September 11 Victim Compensation Fund, say they pursued a legal route in hopes that their suits would give them a better understanding of the security breakdowns that allowed the tragedy to occur.

But whatever knowledge they gained, they're not allowed to talk about it.

I can understand why the airlines and the security company at Dulles wanted to keep their mistakes private, but there is a compelling need to know issue here.

The families of 9/11 deserve compassion and sympathy. They are free to act in their own self-interest. However, these particular families want to have it both ways, wanting to tell us that they are on a search for the truth while participating in keeping at least the airline/airport side of the truth hidden from view. Their actions do not meet their rhetoric, and this settlement is not in the best interests of the nation. Whatever truth came out of those depositions should be unsealed. This attack killed their family members, but it was primarily an attack on the entire nation — and we have the same standing to determine whether the failures have really all been identified and corrected.

Pentagon Landing Gear Photo Found by Italian Blogger

Our buddy Henry62 has located a stunning photo, which would appear to be the Holy Grail to Pentagon debunkers, of the landing gear of a 757 in the drive between the C-Ring and D-Ring.

Note: the original source of this photo is unclear. But it certainly looks like the area between the C-Ring and D-Ring, and the object at the bottom right is quite plainly the landing gear of a 757.

The Cut That Never Was

They are all excited over at 911 Blogger regarding Steven Jones, who in his secret lab discovered that particles of metal from the Truthburn art project are "similar" to particles of metal recovered from World Trade Center debris. Well, similar in the same sense that tiny round pieces of metal are all similar to each other...

I was most amused by this characterization though (emphasis mine):

Yes, the event was "an attempt" to demonstrate the steel cutting powers of thermite, it was in fact, an unsuccessful attempt. No steel was ever cut, it was just a fireworks display, according to their own blog.

As mentioned below, we made what I believe was a safe and smart decision not to place our thermite cutter charges on the sign itself, rather ignite them beneath the sign on a hunk of steel we obtained from another artist.

Define Success

This is somewhat OT, but they covered it over at 9-11 Blogger. The SF "Beach Impeach" was a "great success" according to the post.

Success? Let's see, there are no impeachment proceedings going on. The event did not take place in SF, but in Berkeley, and it wasn't even on the beach.

But people apparently had a lot of fun, and Carol Brouillet pops up in a photo demonstrating once and for all that she is indeed a mammal. So by that standard, it was indeed a great success.

It Doesn't Work That Way

One of the consistent gripes we get from the Troof contingent is that we label folks who agree with them as kooks, moonbats, fruitcakes, nutbars and other assorted derogatory terms. So somebody decided to strike back.

But you know how it is; when you're looking for converts you have to be nice; it's only when you're looking to prevent heretics that you can get out the brickbats.

David Ray Griffin and Those Phone Calls, Again

I have to give my co-blogger credit for his predictions. Just two days ago Pat pointed out how odd David Ray Griffin's infatuation with the airfone calls was, and how it would lead to other truthers attacking him, and now it has led to just that with this post on 911 Blogger. Of course the author of this piece only manages to hold on to his 911 fantasies through an even more difficult and elaborate plot.

Griffin’s logic is that since the calls were said to be cell calls, and that cell calls are impossible from higher altitudes, therefore all the calls were fabricated. He doesn’t, however, deal with the full implications of such reasoning. According to him, something like the following scenario occurred:

The perpetrators decide to bolster their story of an al-Qaeda hijacking by making phony calls to various loved ones of the passengers. They are able to voice-morph Tom Burnett’s voice so masterfully that they are able to fool his wife not once, not twice, but on at least three and maybe four calls. Despite their brilliance with voice-morphing, however, they are so stupid as to make their fake call appear to come from a cell phone, which is known to be impossible at the altitude UAL93 was at when Tom called his wife. Griffin believes the calls were made by cell phones because Deena supposedly said she looked at the caller ID. So the perpetrators They were able to make the call seem to come from Tom’s own cell phone– did they pickpocket his cell phone before the flight, and the phones of various others? In addition to the stupidity of making their fake calls from cell phones, the perpetrators inexplicably decide to throw in a report from the fake Tom of the hijackers having guns, which the FBI and media later go through great lengths to cover up and/or ignore.......

Can we believe this preposterous scenario?

Let me propose an alternate scenario:

A controversial Holocaust-denial film is raising questions about free speech at Grassroots Television, an Aspen community-access station.

Steve Campbell, founder of Citizens for 9/11 Truth, asked the station to air “Judea Declares War on Germany: A Critical Look at World War II” on Monday, but Grassroots board members stopped the screening.

The one-hour program features Dr. Frederick Töben, an Australian national and member of the Adelaide Institute, an organization that denies that the Holocaust happened.
“This film is offensive not only to Jews in the world but to any sensible person,” said Grassroots Executive Director John Masters.

Apparently from earlier articles, Campbell has gotten away with movies about how the Zionists did 9-11; it was only when he got into Holocaust Denial that he got into trouble with the Grassroots Fruitloops.

The videos have raised complaints from some who call them anti-Semitic, and Campbell is outspoken in his views.

"I think this was all planned way in advance," he said, "and of course our government is largely controlled by the Zionists and the oil interests, and those two elements are pivotal in the carrying out of 9/11."

He blames a mainstream media "largely controlled by Jewish interests," for failing to question government accounts.

Later, during a question-and-answer session, Dr Mahathir said he had doubts that the collapse of the World Trade Centre in New York was actually caused by terrorists crashing planes into the towers.

The charges against Anwar constituted a "show trial" according to Al Gore. The Wikipedia entry notes (but does not cite):

McKinney's Tucson "Truth"

She mostly talks about how Bush and Cheney didn't want an investigation. Undeniably, the highlight comes with about 2:40 remaining when she talks about how the failure to prevent 9-11 was in her mind, an impeachable offense, and that she "hand-drew" up articles of impeachment, but her mother talked her out of it. "Leave it alone, Cynthia, because they will kill you."

This speech is apparently given to a bunch of Greens, but the "Truther" stuff seems to get the most applause.

In this second segment she gets into a discussion of the mainstream media and somehow uses a Wizard of Oz allegory. She talks about the New York Times taking money to run an ad by Mike Ruppert, but then refusing to run it because she couldn't prove we were in Oz. Or something:

Crackpot Griffin Doubles Down on the Calls

I could see him trying to simply rescue the claim on AA77, but when he goes into the UA93 stuff, I gotta call it complete fruitcake territory:

Much stronger evidence that the two alleged phone calls from Barbara Olson on Flight 77 to her husband, then Solicitor General Ted Olson, did not happen. (1. Although Olson finally settled on the claim that his wife had used a seat-back phone, a 2006 letter from American Airlines Customer Service stated that AA Flight 77 had no seat-back phones. 2. The FBI report on phone calls from the four airliners, provided at the Moussaoui trial in 2006, listed only one attempted call from Barbara Olson, which was unconnected and hence lasted “0 seconds.”)

Stronger evidence that the alleged cell phone calls were faked: The most famous of these were the four calls that Deena Burnett reported receiving from her husband, Tom Burnett. She knows that they came from his cell phone, she said, because she saw his Caller ID number. According to the FBI’s report at the Moussaoui trial, however, there were only two cell phone calls from United 93, and they were made at 9:58, shortly before the plane crashed, when it was down to 5,000 feet. The FBI refused to support, therefore, the claim (e.g., by Popular Mechanics) that high-altitude cell phone calls were possible in 2001. Deena Burnett must have been duped.

I think Deena Burnett probably made a mistake, but maybe her husband did get a brief connection, long enough for her to see it on Caller ID, but not long enough to connect. But of course he called back on an Airfone; that is also established by the Moussaoui trial evidence.

The Olson evidence is less conclusive; there are good reasons to assume that Barbara Olson was the caller for several of the listed phone calls on AA77 but no conclusive proof other than her husband's word. I tend to buy it but I can see why anti-Bush hysterics might not.

I'm a little surprised to see Griffin bravely defending territory that his fellow 9-11 Troofers have abandoned; the notion that the phone calls were faked has always been ridiculous and offensive. I can understand why Griffin does it; if you admit the calls you have to admit Islamic-appearing hijackers, and that pretty much leads to LIHOP at most.

But supporting the concept of "faked" phone calls is stupid. To put it in war terms, it's like covering a bridge when the smarter thing to do is destroy the bridge. DRG should be showing his acolytes that he is one of the reasonable people on this issue; instead he seems determined to prove himself as kooky as they are.

Browns Busted

This isn't 9-11 related but the kooks have been making this couple into heroes of their movement nonetheless featuring them at Trooferfest 2007.

Ed and Elaine Brown were convicted on federal tax charges in January and refused to turn themselves in to authorities when they were sentenced in April to five years and three months in prison.

It was not immediately clear how they were taken into custody.

"We had no indication that the Browns intended to voluntarily surrender, so we had to move forward with an operation that promised the safest possible outcome. That day was today," U.S. Marshal Stephen Monier said in a news release.

The NIST Whistle-Blower

Some of the commenters have asked us to look into this matter. George Washington, aka Alex Floum, claims to have received second-hand emails from a former NIST employee, via a "prominent 9-11 Truth activist".

But the whistle this guy's blowing ain't exactly an Acme Thunderer. The emails mostly describe normal bureaucratic infighting:

I don't know whether the NBS Director, Dr. John Lyons, was forced into retirement by the Clinton administration; I just remember the abruptness of the change after only 3 years on his job. He was replaced by a relatively unknown and also quite young scientist from DARPA. What I remember about her is her lack of credibility in representing NIST in scientific circles, her choice of senior staff with little regard for their scientific standing, and her keen emphasis on political sensitivities.

When I first heard of [9/11 truth] and how the NIST "scientists" involved in 911 seemed to act in very un-scientific ways, it was not at all surprising to me. By 2001, everyone in NIST leadership had been trained to pay close heed to political pressures. There was no chance that NIST people "investigating" the 911 situation could have been acting in the true spirit of scientific independence, nor could they have operated at all without careful consideration of political impact. Everything that came from the hired guns was by then routinely filtered through the front office, and assessed for political implications before release.

Note that he doesn't have firsthand knowledge of any changes that were made to the 9-11 NIST reports because of "political implications". And that's because he hasn't worked for NIST since... well, work it out:

I don't know what more I can add that might be relevant, as I have been once-removed from NIST for the past 6 years as a contractor via [a defense company].

The Exoweaponry crowd will no doubt seize on this bit:

So to summarize, we have a former NIST insider who says the organization considered political implications when releasing studies, who has no specific knowledge of the 9-11 investigations by NIST.

I suspect much that he's written is true. So what?

Is Jones Aligning Himself With Tarpley? Or Just Careless?

I don't see how Steven Jones could miss the significance of his latest publication in the Journal of Nine-Eleven Studies (aka JONES), but maybe it's just a simple mistake.

He posts over at 9-11 Blogger a comment encouraging everybody to check out the latest "peer-reviewed" article at JONES. But guess who plays a starring role in the new article, as both a cited and uncited source?

America's Stupidest Professor

I was not too impressed when I first read this article by Rutgers psychology professor Barry R. Komisaruk:

#1: In fact, no commercial jetliner debris - no engines, tail section, luggage, bodies, are visible in photos of the Pentagon just after whatever collided with it. Why has no film of any collision with the Pentagon ever been shown to the public despite the existence of all the Pentagon's surveillance cameras? Contrast that absence with the unendingly repeated films shown of the planes hitting the twin towers.

#2: The Pentagon is protected by surface-to-air missiles. Why were they not deployed to shoot down whatever it was that hit the building?

But when I came across this follow-up article, I realized that he made David Ray Griffin look like a Pulitzer Prize winning historian by comparison.

The eyewitness reports of "an American Airlines Boeing 757" as it approached the Pentagon are matched by an equal number of eyewitness accounts that it was a missile that hit the Pentagon.

The number of eyewitnesses who saw a plane hit the Pentagon numbers easily over 100, and this is just the people to managed to get mentioned in the media. The number of people who report seeing a missile (or anything else for that matter) is much easier to count.

Zero.

Ya Say Ya Wanna Revolution...

My prediction that the We Are Changer WACs would turn out to be this generation's Weather Underground appears to be proving true. Over at their forums:

I feel that it needs to start with an assassination, but we need to be able to put up a fight against retaliation, and for that we need a sizeable militia.

Knowing the police and the way things are run in the country, especially around Washington, peaceful intentions don't always make peaceful situations. If I were to be part of a peaceful march on Washington, I would come armed...

Those Sinster Ringing Phones

I noticed this bit of "research" over at 911 Blogger describing the events at NORAD on 9/11, and was just stunned by its stupidity:

Crucially, Findley has recalled that, at that moment, "every phone in this cab, and every phone over in the command center, and every phone in all the centers in this building were ringing off the hook." [2] Master Corporal Daniel Milne, the emergency action controller on duty in the NORAD operations center, has similarly recalled: "The feeling was total disbelief. Then the phones started ringing like crazy. I could not believe that we were under attack." [3] This wasn't just happening at NORAD. The American Forces Press Service has described events in the National Military Command Center (NMCC), located within the Pentagon, based on the recollections of two officers who were there. Like the NORAD operations center, the NMCC would have been one of the most important parts of the military that morning. After the second plane hit the WTC, phones there "began ringing off the hook." [4]

What caused all these phones to suddenly ring? Could it have been an influx of concerned agencies suddenly requesting help, now it was obvious the U.S. was under attack? Or was it something more sinister? A clue is in a 1996 article from the U.S. Air Force's own magazine, Airman. The article quoted Stacey Knott, a technician in the NORAD operations center: "Things can be pretty quiet in here." However, she added: "One of the busiest times is during exercises. This room fills up. ... The phones are ringing off the hook, and I've got phones in each hand." [emphasis added] [5]

The fact that the phones were "ringing off the hooks", during a national emergency no less, is somehow given a nefarious meaning. Have these people ever worked a day of their life in the real world? Geez, even someone who worked at the mall over the holidays should be able to understand this!

Sometimes this idiocy just leaves me speechless. How do these people deal with the world? Hold a job? Go shopping even. If the line is long at Blockbusters, is it because the Illuminati are trying to prevent them from renting "The X-Files: Season 3" on DVD?

Troof Movement Growing, But Slowly

At least on a year over year basis. I've been checking the sitemeter at 9-11 Blogger for awhile, and up till now it's made me caution those who would declare this movement dead.

The traffic at 9-11 Blogger is a good gauge of interest in the 9-11 conspiracy theories. As you would expect, the traffic over there tends to peak around September, with that month showing the highest traffic in both 2006 and 2007. This shows the cyclical nature of 9-11 conspiracy interest, and indicates that a year over year comparison is probably best.

In June of 2006, there were 120,000 visitors to 9/11 Blogger. A year later, in June 2007, the traffic was 238,000, almost double the prior year. That's pretty explosive growth, the kind a movement needs if it's going to become a force to be reckoned with. In July of 2006, the traffic was 149,000, which increased to 231,000 in July of 2007. That's a 55% increase; still strong but nowhere near as strong as the June increase.

In August 2006, the traffic was almost 240,000. In August 2007, it was up to 248,000; an increase to be sure, but only a 3.6% gain compared to a year earlier. In September 2006, they drew 322,000. Last month they got 337,000, about 4.6% higher year over year.

It is an open question as to whether they will show any growth year over year in October. Last October they drew 308,000, an average of almost 10,000 per day. Yesterday they pulled in 8,800.

Caveats? About the only one I can think of is the internal squabbling with items like the Kennebunkport Warning dividing the movement. However, the trend towards slower growth was established in August when everybody still thought Webster Tarpley was doing outreach to the peace movement.

So the movement is far from dead, but it's also far from the fast-growing phenomenon that it might have been seen as only a few months ago. And when you consider that it's only 4.6% of the population to begin with, slow growth means they're doomed to failure in their effort to oust the Bush regime.

Heckling presidential candidates is one thing, but showing up at Marvin Bush's house and asking him over a bullhorn why he "removed the bomb sniffing dogs and security from the World Trade Center" is pretty creepy. It is only a matter of time before one of these idiots starts writing love letters to Jodi Foster.

The Path of Maximum Resistance Fallacy

I liked this comment from JREF Forum member Phantom Wolf. Addressing the claim that the buildings fell "through the path of maximum (and greatly increasing) resistance," he observed:

This makes the assumption that things should always take the path of least resistance. This is untrue as well. Objects take the path of least energy change. Think about it for a moment. If you get hit by a bullet, does it follow the path of least resistance? Surely the path of least resistance is to divert around you through the air, not to pass through your body. Why does it pass through you if that is higher resistance? The answer is because it would require more energy to deflect the bullet around you that it does to cause a plastic deformation and fracture of your body components. In the same way there is less energy required to plastically deform and fracture the building below the collapsing top that it would take to deflect that mass off to one side. Thus it is more energy efficient to crush the building below, and it does.

Changers (Attempt to) Confront Hillary

I had heard of this one before, but never seen it. It's very low quality (probably shot with a cellphone), and nothing much happens other than that the Troofers get the bum's rush. I'll say one thing for Hillary's security people (who probably do include Secret Service); they're a lot better at preventing the kooks from getting close to the candidate than any other campaign we've seen so far.
