Fire Can't Melt Steel

Watching the National Geographic special now. They rigged up a steel beam across a pit filled with jet fuel. It reached over 2000 degrees and collapsed in just 3 minutes and 50 seconds. Both David Ray Griffin and Richard Gage proclaimed that was meaningless. Uhh, what was this we have been hearing about how no fires were over 350 degrees? Fire can't melt steel!

And the smoke was black, it was obviously oxygen deprived and going out.

More later....

Update 1: Next laugh out loud moment, they use 150lbs of thermite and can't melt a simple beam, so David Ray Griffin whines because the NatGeo people switch between thermite and nano-thermite. Hello, you guys perfected that technique. There was molten steel, that proves thermite! But thermite isn't used in building demolition. That is because it was explosive super-thermite! But there weren't sounds of demolitions... That is because they used thermite which is not explosive....

Update 2: Heh, Richard Gage complains about an experiment where they fire a projectile into a mock Pentagon, complaining that they didn't scale down the speed of the projectile. I am sorry, the last person to complain about scaling issues should be box boy.

Barrett: Still Digging

Still unable to admit that the Holocaust happened:

1. Do you believe that the holocaust happened?

Which holocaust? I think it is utterly bizarre that only one of the many holocausts, the killing of a large number of Jews by the Nazis during World War II, has become THE Holocaust, an object of worship and sacred narrative (myth). It is even more bizarre that this sacred narrative's main purpose is to justify the ongoing holocaust in Palestine.

So yes, I do believe that the holocaust in Palestine that your tax dollars are paying for happened, and continues to happen, and will continue to happen until we decide to stop this holocaust that WE are perpetrating, rather than making a fetish out of one perpetrated by our enemies more than sixty years ago. And I believe that the Palestinian holocaust has been made possible by the creation of a sacred narrative about Nazis killing Jews during World War II. While I do believe that Nazis killed a large numbers of Jews during World War II -- I have not studied the issue enough to know how many were killed under what circumstances -- I do not understand why this story has become sacred, nor do I understand why it is used to justify the ongoing holocaust in Palestine. After all, it was Germans, not Palestinians, who killed Jews during World War II.

Remember, when Holocaust Deniers are asked about the Holocaust, the classic dodge is to talk about "other" holocausts; Christopher Bollyn wanted to talk about the fire-bombing of Dresden.

Subtitled, "I Love Myself"

Nathan Moulton dedicates a video to the wonderfulness of Nathan Moulton. It could be worse; he could have an insincere dedication at the beginning to "the lives we lost on 9-11." Nice to hear my old buddy Rob Breakenridge near the end of this segment.

Loose Accounting

I was rather amused reading the new promo site for Loose Change V 5.0, or whatever version they are up to. Apparently Dylan Avery thinks he has a really, really big budget. He is just not quite sure what it is. One page says:

The initial film had a budget of $2,000; “Loose Change 9/11: An American Coup” has an estimated budget of $1,o00,000 [sic].

OK, nevermind that these geniuses can't even spell $1,000,000 correctly, on their press release fact sheet the budget suddenly gets blown up faster than a defense contract.

The initial film had a budget of $2,000;"Loose Change: An American Coup" has an estimated budget of $3,500,000.

What method are they using to estimate this budget? Apparently his accountant is the same guy who brought us that B-52 crashing into the Empire State Building.

The Best Decision Dylan Ever Made

Was to sit back and let Jason be the spokesman for Looser Than Words. Now that Jason's off doing his own thing, Dylan's doing the radio interviews. Badly.

He was on with WRIF talkers Drew and Mike the other day. Dylan spends much of the time griping about what a pair of immature jerks they are; only a twenty-something would bother whining like that. I see he's back to "No-Planer" status, denying Flight 77 hit the Pentagon and that Flight 93 crashed near Shanksville.

Grab Bag

Deep thoughts, by Jack Handy:

God, I love it when college kids get all philosophical.

Troofers appropriate a Stop the War symbol.

The Stop the War Coalition (StWC) has for the first time spoken out against British conspiracy groups illegally using its name and logo. Two conspiracy groups have been carrying StWC logos on their promotional material and claims the coalition is involved with co-organising conspiracy events.

These British conspiracy groups, ‘We Are Change’ and ‘Truth Action’, are the latest incarnation of the now defunct ’911 Truth Campaign’, that while active, organised events that promoted Holocaust denial, antisemitism and other right wing conspiracies. The campaign also allowed the harassment of journalists including George Monbiot, Nick Cohen, Robert Fisk and Jon Ronson, and encouraged the intimidation of terrorist attack survivors such as Rachel North and her family.

Meanwhile, another British Troofer is facing extradition to the United States over computer hacking. His mother claims his Trutherism led to the crime:

Standing outside the U.S. embassy in central London, Janis Sharp, McKinnon's mother, said in an interview that the hacking was "the most incredibly stupid thing for him to do," and explained he was partly motivated by conspiracy theories and was trying to unearth new evidence around the Sept. 11 attacks, and partly by his "childhood obsession" of finding proof that UFOs exist. "Please, Obama, he'd never hurt anyone. Don't let the first person you extradite be a good, gentle man with Asperger's," she pleaded.

Asperger's syndrome is a mild form of autism. However, I don't see that it excuses him for committing a crime. As you can see from the article, most of the whoop-de-doo about the case is based on how unfair Britain's extradition treaty is with the US.

Hat Tips to ak, me and Consdemo for pointing these out in the comments.

What I Like About This Video

No, it's not the sarcasm, or the feeble attempts at humor. It's the ending where they solicit donations to nycballotinitiative.org. Turns out that site has nothing to do with NYC-CAN; instead it's the site of a different ballot initiative.

Update: Trooftards point out that I got the website that they request donations for wrong; in fact it's http://nyc911ballotinitiative.org. But it's still a different ballot initiative than the NYC-CAN site, and in fact Carl Person owns both domains. What a bunch of morons!

Gage's Gaggle Lies Again

Listing the qualifications of their latest architect:

Among the nearly 800 architects and engineers who have signed our petition comes one architect formerly with William L. Pereira & Associates. One doesn't get much closer to the elements of high-rise design than with the pyramid-shaped Transamerica Building in San Francisco. Stephen Barasch, AIA, our Featured Petitioner, was a member of the architectural design team for that 48-floor structure. Barasch was also instrumental in the Mark Hopkins Hotel architectural design, also in San Francisco.

Remarkable indeed, given that Barasch apparently graduated from the University of Arizona in 1971, and given that construction of the Transamerica Pyramid began in 1969. Hey, I'm sure that it's quite possible that an undergraduate was part of the architectural design team. But what are we to make about the claim that Barasch was involved in the design of the Mark Hopkins, which opened in 1926? Must be a time-traveler, I suppose.

More discussion of Mr Barasch's work here:

It is a bit difficult to reconcile the idea of Mr. Barasch as a "designer" of the Transamerica Pyramid with the reality that Mr. Barasch, in 2006, had such astounding projects as seeking to renovate a rental house by adding a few bedrooms (after being denied because the proposed renovation did not meet the planning department's requirements wrt municipal standards and zoning and such, and subsequently amending the plan for appeal purposes to get it approved - not by any stretch of the imagination a big project judging by the drawings and photos), and in 2005 was also attempting to gain approval for a couple of new single family residential houses, without initial success (not sure if he ever ultimately got approval for these and I can't be bothered to look any further).

Richard Gage & A&E Troofers BS Exposed

Some profanity, but excellent production by JREF Forum member Alien Entity:

Excellent job! Note that unlike the cowards at Artichokes and Endives for 9-11 Troof, Alien Entity actually allows comments on his videos.

The Troofer Is A Terrorist

At least in one case:

Dylan Boyd, who is in his early 20s, told agents that Muslims must be ready in case they are attacked, claiming that the U.S. Army is overseas raping and killing "their" Muslim sisters. He repeatedly called the FBI agents questioning him "kuffar" - meaning nonbelievers - and said the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks were an "inside job," according to a summary of the interview.

Federal investigators have also said they found 26,000 rounds of ammunition inside the Boyd home. Dylan Boyd told agents that ammunition has been growing more expensive and that his father began to buy ammunition in bulk to get a lower price and save on shipping charges.

A reminder, in case one is needed, that the Troofers should not be playing guilt by association games.

Jason's Latest

Note that the JFK quote about secret societies and secret oaths, so popular among conspiracy nutbars, is exhumed once again. It comes from this speech gave on the topic of the press (to the American Newspaper Publishers Association. The speech is basically an exhortation to the media to consider what stories they should run in the interests of national security, in light of the communist threat. Nobody who lived through those tense times would mistake it for a speech about the Illuminati, but because Kennedy used carefully vague terms, it can be read that way by the kooks.

Crappiest PBS Station In America Gets Noticed

I was wondering if everybody in the Mile High City was, well, high. Apparently not.

I'm with the viewer who cancelled his KBDI membership and wrote, "What's next on the KBDI hit list, films about President Obama being a citizen of Kenya or about how health-care reform wants to kill your grandmother?"

It's nothing new for KBDI to staff the phone banks during pledge drives with supporters of whatever is on the air. Conservationists have been recruited to answer phones during nature broadcasts. Still, the arrangement raises questions about whether the station is making deals with interest groups to carry programming in exchange for pledge support.

Good to see somebody else noticed this disinformation being promoted on a PBS station.

I Question the Timing

Just as the sheeple were waking up to the Alex Jones Deception, this happens:

Troy Palmer Sexton, 36, of Summit Ridge Road, Hurricane, is facing domestic battery charges after carrying his 6-year-old son across a field by one ankle and allowing the child's helmeted head to hit the ground "more than once," according to a criminal complaint filed in Putnam Magistrate Court.

Okay, so I don't really question the timing; that would be doing like the idiot troofers do. I am very disappointed in Troy; given the incident at Riverfront Stadium (Correction: Great American Ballpark), and some of the phone calls he's made, he's clearly got anger management issues. I'm not going to judge him guilty or innocent; let's let the legal system handle it.

In other news, NYC-CAN claims to have found about 7,000 additional signatures; since they only needed about 4,000 more, I'm a little confused about why they asked for an extension of time. Oh, yeah, maybe this has something to do with it:

"First, the federal government has jurisdiction over an investigation into the attacks that took place on September 11 as well as the causes of those attacks. Establishing a local commission to conduct an investigation far exceeds the proper scope and purpose of the petition process of the MHRL (Municipal Home Rule Law). Second, the petition fails to provide an adequate financing plan for the Commission as required by section 37 of the MHRL. Third, the petition's method of designating Commissioners conflicts with state laws relating to the election or appointment of public officers and the residency of public officers, Fourth, the petition overreaches in its attempt to confer a range of law enforcement and prosecutorial powers on the Commission."

Truth Movement Held Hostage: Day 3

As predicted here last week, NYC-CAN has not updated their website this weekend, despite a Friday deadline to file a rather extensive amount of paperwork relative to the proposed Troofer ballot initiative. In fact, despite the supposed urgent need for this issue to be on the ballot to answer the families' questions, there has been no update on 9-11 Flogger, Truth Action, Truth Move, or 9-11 Truth dot nutbar.

Crickets. So here's a question that I'm sure the families would like answered:

Why is NYC-CAN stonewalling on the current status of the ballot proposition?

And I can answer my own question. Like everything the Troofers have done, it was half-assed and fell into its own footprint at faster than freefall speed. They don't want to admit it, because it turned out to be a typical colossal failure.

Gage Bummed That Nobody Will Meet With Him

He's put together a pair of the usual "open letters", one to NIST, one to the AIA.

It is with great regret that I read in your letter the decline of our request to meet with you and the AIA Board. We wrote to you that we now have over 700 architects and engineers at AE911Truth calling for a real investigation into the destruction of the three World Trade Center high-rises on 9/11. Now, as a result of our latest successful exhibit booth and class at the Washington DC conference last week we have over 45 AIA members signed on. At what point will you take us seriously? Perhaps when our rapidly growing numbers reach 1,000?

No, Richard. They'll take you seriously when you have 10,000 architects and engineers. Which at the present rate should be sometime in 2045. Remember, Gage's goal was 1000 architects & engineers by 9-11-08; at this point almost a year later they're still shy of 800.

The Late, Great "Truth" Movement

Chf describes what has happened to his local (Toronto) fruitcake brigade:

Anyway....In July they changed their name to "Toronto Truthseekers" on meetup. That way they could include chemtrails, vaccines, NAU, global warming, weather modification and a host of other things in addition to 9/11.

Yep, we recall that 9-11 Blogger tried the same "big tent" approach, allowing JFK "Truth" and MLK "Truth" about a year ago. No, it didn't work;

Lately the group's e-mail list has seen more infighting than a Somali tribal conference due to endless conflicts over strategy, claims and the growing insanity of member like Victor Fletcher (who endlessly rants about the "Zionist" plots against him), "Glenn" (a 40 year old who was expelled from the group due to his bizarre public gestures towards teenage girls) and Black Krishna (BK), whose decent into madness has become especially comical.

This seems to be pretty much the case everywhere; it's getting harder and harder to find something to post about here at SLC.

How Could They Possibly Have Thought She Was a Nut?

Good lord.

A woman describes how she was locked up in an institution for a couple weeks for expressing her trooferism. She writes well, but hoo-boy it's not hard to find evidence that she's riding the crazy train:

I was absolutely terrified by this, particularly so as I was horribly conscious of the content of the threatening e-mails I had received in the days preceding this. (A Englishman researching the New World Order, stated in a letter to the hospital in 2008 that he has heard of this technique being used “often.” His letter is at the end of the post). Consequently, with my heart thumping wildly, I strode to Police Superintendent Viv Rickard, who happened to be in the town Mall at the time, and told him that I believed the SIS was threatening my life because of my work in exposing the truth about 9/11. Rickard said he believed me, but said he thought that others on the police force might not, so advised me to deal with him directly about the matter.

Subsequent to the encounter with the man dressed in black, I had a discussion with a family member about hypothetical scenarios and my very real fears, to the point at which I said that if it were between a man with a gun and tablets, I would prefer the latter. Fortunately however, I received an e-mail on June the 2nd, -I believed it was from the SIS, which intimated that the threats would cease as it appeared I had gotten the message.

Is there a family history of mental illness?

As my mother had committed suicide....

My father, who decades earlier had aided his brother out of an institution, as he had been wrongly diagnosed as schizophrenic....

Then the judge asked for my father’s opinion, noting he was a doctor and looking duly impressed. My father, Dr John Swinney, said he thought I should be released and went on to boldly divulge that he agreed with my political beliefs. He said 9/11 was an inside job and he’d seen the evidence to prove it. His assertion rang out like a shot and everyone in the room tensed up. Mr Druce, looking awkward, grimaced and theatrically exclaimed: “Oh dear!,” and tellingly, didn’t question my father any further.

Even after she's locked up, she persists in trying to present her "evidence":

In the morning of the following day, Friday the 16th, Dr Zubaran said he wanted to talk to me. I advised him about the meeting planned with the Consumer Rights Advocate – he said he knew about it. He suggested that we talk outside, so we went out to Hospital Rd, and exchanged words a few meters from the hospital. Evidently, he still hadn’t done any research related to 9/11 and reiterated that I was “delusional” because I believed it was an inside job. “This is evidence I’m not delusional,” I said as I handed him an article I had in my pocket for him about what was then the biggest smoking gun of them all – Building 7’s collapse.

She does present one bit of typical Troofer "evidence" that I hadn't heard before:

As many Uncensored readers now know, there is not a shred of hard evidence to show bin Laden had anything to do with 9/11, and even Dick Cheney had acknowledged this...

Apparently this comes from a radio interview Cheney did with Tony Snow in 2006:

As you can tell, Cheney simply misspoke; what he meant to say was that the administration had never made the case that Saddam Hussein was directly involved with 9-11. How typical of the Troofers to latch onto an error like that.

Still Moron the Terror Timeline

Jon Gold corrects me over at Flogger (not linking those jerks any more):

In the comments of this article, a lying "debunker" states, "don't trust the Terror Timeline; it's a wiki-style effort that can be edited by anyone and is thus contaminated with 'Trutherism'."

According to Kevin Fenton, a contributor of the Terror Timeline, "anybody can certainly register and attempt to edit it, but the edits aren't displayed to the public until they are approved by the editors, which is a significant difference with Wikipedia."

Of course, this just makes things worse, as it means some editor over there approved some of the changes I have pointed out in the past.

But even more hilariously, one of the commenters over at Flogger claims:

Hey Jon,

Is the Complete 9/11 Timeline part of Paul Thompson's work? And If im not mistaken, Paul Thompson supports the governments OCT.

Jon quickly retorts:

Paul Thompson DOES NOT support the "official story." He never has, and that is something that people who try to discredit him say.

Of course, in the real world, saying that somebody supports the official story does not discredit them. It's only that way in the idiot troofer world.

Barney Frank and the Kooks

No, not the LaRouche kooks who disrupted his health care meeting, the Troofer kooks pushing their nanothermite paper.

Waterboy Starts Theorizing...

And promptly shows why that's rapidly becoming a no-no in the movement. Kevin Ryan, having established to his satisfaction that super-duper nanothermite was used to bring down the World Trade Center starts casting about for suspects. In Part I, he blamed the victims, looking specifically at the tenants near the impact zones. Now in Part II he takes up the security firms employed at the WTC.

Approximately fifty people were named in the review of the WTC tenants and their possible links to explosive technology and expertise. Of course this assessment was not meant to suggest that all of those people were involved in planting explosives in the WTC buildings, but it merely answered the question of whether or not those who had the necessary access to the buildings, at the appropriate times, might have also had access to the necessary technologies. But it is worthwhile to note that, even if all of those fifty people were involved, we would still be well below the lowest estimates of the extent of the Al Qaeda organization. Therefore, the common claim made by those opposing any further questioning of 9/11 -- that any conspiracy involving insiders would have had to be too vast and could not be kept secret -- is not supported by the facts. In actuality, as we will continue to see in this series of essays, the hypothesis of insiders being involved remains a simpler explanation than the “outsider only” hypothesis in terms of the complexity of the conspiracy, in addition to being far more feasible logistically.

Now that is fatheaded even for the Waterboy. See, it would only take 50 people inside the World Trade Center to be responsible for the controlled demolition, and that's smaller than Al Qaeda, so it's totally believable. As are unicorns and leprechauns in Kevin Ryan's world. Never mind of course that you still have to have hijackers to fly the planes into the buildings. Never mind that the whole "they flew the planes into the buildings and then used controlled demolition to destroy the buildings" never made any sense anyway.

Ryan tries to put together a case from the flimsiest of evidence. For example, he notes:

Alan Reiss was the PANYNJ’s World Trade Center Director, and as such was considered “mayor” of the WTC. [24] Reiss was employed at the WTC since 1984, working on building systems, the engineering and capital program, and eventually helping to secure major leases for tenants like Banker’s Trust and Fuji Bank. In 1988, he was promoted to the position of the World Trade Center’s supervising engineer, in charge of the complex’s major systems. He was later promoted to Special Assistant to the Director, and eventually, WTC Director.

And:

Many senior managers at the PANYNJ who had knowledge of the buildings died on 9/11 trying to help others escape, [31] but Reiss survived. In his testimony to the 9/11 Commission, Reiss stated -- “We were stunned when 2 WTC was also hit by a plane. The police officers and I rushed to the rear emergency exit and looked up at the tower and realized we were at war…At the Port Authority Police’s request, I then returned to the vicinity of 6 World Trade Center to assess the condition of One World Trade Center with then-Captain Whitaker, commander of the PA Police at the WTC, just as the tower began to collapse. We were both enveloped by this churning black debris cloud as we ran north on West Street. It was darker than any burning building I have ever been in as a volunteer fireman, and it was next to impossible to breathe due to the debris in the air.”

One problem with Reiss’ testimony is that people who had been “enveloped by [the] churning black debris cloud” were completely covered in dust. [32] But Alan Reiss, who is said to have narrowly escaped the 1993 bombing as well, did not appear to have any dust or debris on him despite having been covered by the dust clouds. An interview with Reiss just moments after the destruction of the towers, in which Reiss’ police escort turned his back on Reiss and appeared unusually uncomfortable, demonstrated this fact. [33]

Here's the interview in question:

It's edited by some idiot Troofer, so ignore the subtitles. Reiss's "police escort" (in fact the Chief of Police of the WTC) does indeed turn his back on Reiss. Why? Because he's being interviewed by a TV reporter who's closer to him than to Reiss. Does he appear "uncomfortable"? Gee, that couldn't possibly have something to do with the events he'd been through that day, combined with normal discomfort in being on live television? Do the Chief and Reiss both seem not very dusty? Well, it's clear that the interview is taking place after the dust has settled; is it too much to suggest that perhaps they shook the dust off their clothes and washed their faces?

You know what this really is? It's 100% comparable to the idiots who are "researching" whether Ron Breitweiser (Kristen's husband) really existed. Read some of the footnotes the Waterboy uses; they contain the usual inanities from the Troofers like this:

Securacom had a small board of directors that included James Abrahamson, of the White House Commission on Aviation Security as mentioned above, Marvin Bush, the brother of George W. Bush, and Wirt Walker III, a cousin of the Bush brothers.

Marvin Bush was not on the board of Securacom after June of 2000. And nobody has ever presented evidence that Wirt Walker III is former President Bush's cousin; this is one of those stupid things Troofers just assume is true.

Yet More Incredulity

In a post over at 9-11 Flogger. Chris Sarns posts some pics that he claims shows evidence planted at the Pentagon. It's the usual "I don't believe it would look like that nonsense that we're used to hearing from the Troofers, this time about how the light poles should have caused more damage to the ground when they were hit by AA77.

How can you say those poles would just fall over after being hit by a plane going over 500mph and not leave any gouges in the grass?

I can't believe people would vote this into not showing.
You all are so fanatically married to the official flight path that you summarily reject any evidence to the contrary.

This is bleeping insane. Have a nice day.

Sarns himself claims to not be a believer in the flyover theory; one presumes he's a proponent of the missile theory. We get the usual nonsense about how nobody's ever seen a part at the Pentagon with a serial number on it. I am pleased to see that more of the Truthers are calling the Pentagon nuts "no-planers".

Dylan Logic

Well I am back from my 2 week annual training for the National Guard, practicing setting up detention centers for troofers of course, and am getting caught up with things.

I listened to the interview with Dylan Avery that Pat posted below, and am still shaking my head at this exchange with the host at the end.

Dylan: I would disagree with you, especially when 17 members of the Bush administration signed a document in September 2000 calling for a new Pearl Harbor and saying if they got it, they could advance their military and stage multi-theater wars.

Mike: But they didn't actually call for it. The wording in the document. You are talking about the Project for a New American Century right?

Dylan: Process yes, "the process of transformation is likely to be a long one, absent a catalyzing and catastrophic event." Of course they are not calling for it.

Mike: You just said they were. And that is where you have to be careful with the wording of how you say things.

Dylan: (sigh) You understand what I am saying Mike.

Mike: I do...

Dylan: The fact that 17 members of the Bush administration a year prior...

Mike: But this is a very good example of conservative thinktank policy. They do this all the time. They write papers all the time.

Dylan: But that is my point, is that the people who wrote this paper calling for a new Pearl Harbor...

Mike: But they weren't calling for it! Read it again. They weren't calling for it.

Dylan: OK, Mike, but you are distracting from the main point.

Well apparently they were calling for it, but they weren't calling for it.

This is Wisdom?

Heheh. Writing at 9-11 Flogger:

I am sitting on the porch after a long day drinking my coffee. Trying to make sence of this world.
I am a very open minded man.
Does this make sence?
There's a burning desire in the hearts of all intelligent people. A yearning for an answer that stairs them in the face..This is when you seek enlightenment. You open you're mind to all angles.
A smart man always claims to know nothing, for in reality this is only the truth.
The ultimate goal should only be chose the right path.

So what do you think?

Personally, I think he should choose another nickname.

Peter Dale Scott Tries to Rowback His Endorsement of CIT-Heads

Apparently he was taking quite a bit of flak for it:

I must say that I am disappointed by number of ad hominem attacks I have received. I do not believe one incoming letter so far has dealt with the substance of what the Turnpike witnesses claimed and I endorsed.

Here's his claim:

I have not endorsed the flyover theory for Flight 77, and I do not personally believe it. All I endorsed was their assemblage of witnesses who said that Flight 77 approached the Pentagon on the north side of the Pike. I do not draw the conclusions from their testimony that CIT does. But I believe that the testimony needs to be seriously considered by those trying to find out what actually happened.

So the obvious question is what does PDS believe actually happened? That the plane approached from North of the Citgo and flew into the Pentagon? But if that's the case, isn't the light pole damage out of place? Doesn't that mean that the exit hole in the C-Ring is mispositioned?

You see the problem? You can't endorse North of Citgo, and then try to say but you don't believe in the flyover, because if the plane really was NoC, then it could not have caused the physical damage seen. So Peter Dale Scott's attempted rowback on this is yet another massive fail.

Dylan's New Trailer

The usual "jet fuel can't destroy the towers" argument. And a match couldn't possibly burn down a mansion, either. I love that he's back to "no identified wreckage of Flight 77"; in Final Cut, he showed lots of pieces of the plane.

The Truth Hurts

Joel Hirschhorn writes on the failure that is the 9-11 Troof Movement:

Akin to the definition of insanity, the hallmark of entrenched but marginalized movements is that they continue to pursue exactly the same strategy and tactics that have failed to produce solid results. They indulge themselves with self-delusion, defensive thinking and acting as if the world at large must surely and finally wake up, see the light and embrace the Truth. Years and, potentially, decades go by, but this quixotic status quo remains embedded, as if set in intellectual concrete. There is no brain tumor to blame. Nor any mass hypnosis of true believers to prove. There is just monumental disinterest among the dominant culture, political establishment and the broad public that is far more engaged with other issues, problems and movements.

However, when this was posted over at 9-11 Flogger, the conversation took a predictable turn. Hirschhorn was apparently a Judy Wood devotee, so he must be disinfo. How dare he criticize the Troofers!

Kooks Continue to Pin Hopes on Signatures

Apparently forgetting that the ballot initiative is fatally flawed for several other reasons.

Today we began the signature review, and with much promise! The first step: to do a recount of the signatures the Board of Elections did validate. And, after counting only 5 out of 52 volumes, we have found the Board of Elections reported 229 signatures fewer than what they actually validated inside the volumes. If their count continues to be off at the same rate, we will gain some 2,300 signatures - SIMPLY BY RECOUNTING THE ONES THAT WERE ALREADY VALIDATED. And we have already identified one petitioner who collected hundreds of signatures and was wrongly invalidated, along with all the signatures he gathered! And there are thousands of invalidated signatures ripe for challenging because the signer is on the voter roll but put their wrong address - these signatures will also be deemed valid if the signature on the petition matches the signature on their voter registration form.

Obvious question here; how dumb do you have to be to sign your name but put down the wrong address? Troofer dumb, I suppose.

Now That It's Dead...

NYC-CAN gets some publicity in the NY-NJ media. The Newark Star-Ledger runs a soft-focus piece on the ballot initiative and some of the supporters, including Lorie Van Auken.

Efforts like those of NYC-CAN face the danger of becoming overwhelmed by the more radical elements of the so-called "truther" movement, some of whose members already have reached their own conclusions about 9/11 -- including a contention that the destruction of the Twin Towers was not caused by the airplane crashes but rather internal demolition.

Except Van Auken herself has expressed some kookery herself:

“There are just so many unanswered questions,” says Van Auken. “I would say you need roughly 400 hours of research to graduate from 9/11 kindergarten class. That’s why it’s so hard to keep people on the same page, because they’re coming at this issue from a million different angles. A friend might tell them about building 7, or they might watch Loose Change on the internet, or they’ll say, ‘Hold it a second, you can’t make cell phone calls from an airplane.’ And then suddenly a little alarm bell goes off in their brain, and they say, ‘Wow, we don’t know the whole story about this.’ That’s all it takes, the little alarm bell, and then, bam, welcome to the place we’ve been living in for the last six years.”

No discussion of Edgar (UFO) Mitchell. Little discussion of the problems with the ballot initiative, including the fact that Van Auken cannot serve as she is not a New York State resident.

But the real enjoyment is in the comments, where all the fruitcakes come out to party. I particularly enjoyed this one:

Look no further than Larry Silverstein. He had the motive, the means, and the opporunity. He had a photo op that previous Friday with Di Francesco and Pataki to cover his tracks.

Afterwards, instead of showing compassion for the victims,he had the temerity to ask for double indemnity by claiming that it was two separate attacks. It certainly was:,the Muslims he trained and hired, and the dynamite he planted.

Richard Gage Encounters the Truth

Wow, what a terrific job by JREF forum member The Director, who came across Gage and his geese outside the White House, and administered a spanking to the world's finest architect in the design of structural steel gymnasiums.

The Director also has a twitter account where he debunks the CT nutbars. Highly recommended!

Latest on LukeFest 2009

Luke is proud to announce the next headliner at his event:

Yep, a kid in high school, famous mostly for not having his 9-11 Troof Now tee-shirt airbrushed out of the yearbook (he got the principal to put it back in), is now highlighted as attending LukeFest 2009. The rest of the star-studded lineup includes Richard Gage, Jason Bermas, and Daniel Sunjata; as it happens Sander Fest 2009 has all those three plus Barrie Zwicker, Kevin Barrett, Steve Alten, Steve Alten, Mike Burger, and Daniel Hopsicker. But they don't have Robert Wanek.

Amazingly Moron NYC-CAN

Well, now the goofs are going to comb through all 24,664 rejected signatures, in the hopes that that they will be able to come up with 3,997 that were mistakenly rejected. In other words, they are praying that one in six of the rejected ballots turns out to be a legitimate voter.

NYC CAN is asking for volunteers over the next two weeks to help review the signatures invalidated by the City Clerk and Board of Elections. If you will be available at least three whole business days between August 10 and August 21 and you live in or near New York City, please email your name, schedule of availability and phone number to volunteer@nyccan.org, and please put VOLUNTEER in the subject field. NYC CAN will provide lunch!

Yet another example of how the Troofers can't do anything right. Look, this is really simple. Take the first 200 rejected ballots, and find out how many should not have been rejected. If you don't find at least 20 (or one in 10), then you might as well not bother. Remember, there are multiple reasons why a signature might be rejected:

* AI Address illegible or so abbreviated it cannot be identified.
* ALT Alteration (date/signature)
* DI Date incomplete
* DUP v._p._l_ Duplicate of same signature located in the petition at volume identification # ___, page__, line__
* DSP Date of witness statement is prior to date of signature
* F Forgery
* ILLS Illegible signature
* ILLD Illegible date
* NA No address stated
* ND No date stated
* NFN No first name\name is so abbreviated it cannot be identified
* NPN No page number –petition page not sequentially numbered
* NR Not registered as stated in BOE records
* OD Out of the district of the contest
* P Pencil or not in ink
* PR Signature is printed or not handwritten
* SH Similar handwriting
* TE Date of signature is prior to first day for circulating petitions
* TL Date of signature is subsequent to last day for
* circulating petitions or subsequent to date of witness signature
* SAP v._ p._ l_ Signed another petition for the same office on same or prior date designating another as candidate, at petition volume identification #______ page ___, line___.
* SW Signature is that of the subscribing witness to the page
* SWALT Subscribing Witness information altered (not initialed)
* SWNQ Subscribing witness not qualified
* SWNR Subscribing witness not registered, as stated
* SWDI Date incomplete in subscribing witness statement
* SWA No address or wrong address stated in subscribing witness statement
* SWND No date stated in subscribing witness statement 11
* SWNN Name of subscribing witness omitted from body of subscribing witness statement
* SWNS Signature of subscribing witness omitted
* SWNSO Number of signatures omitted from subscribing witness statement
* SWWNS Wrong number of signatures stated in subscribing witness statement
* SWTE Date of signature is prior to first day for circulating petitions
* SWTL Date of signature is subsequent to last day for circulating petitions
* WA Wrong address stated on petition

Note particularly that one about duplicate signatures; that means they're going to have to compile a database of all accepted signatures before they can even green-light one of the signatures as wrongfully rejected. I will also be interested to hear what the applicable date is on SWTE; remember the idiots claimed that 2008 signatures would be accepted.

Hat Tip: Big Al for Gold's post at OpEd News, Orphia Nay for the list of reasons for rejection, both at JREF.

Update: One very oddball thing about NYC-CAN that was pointed out in the comments section: If you do a Google search for NYC-CAN or NYC CAN, it shows up eventually, but nowhere near the top. Either the Troofers haven't done a good enough job of linking to the site, or NYC-CAN hasn't done the simple things that would move them up the search rankings. Are they self-sabotaging?

The Truther/Birther Harmonic Convergence

In this incredibly nutty post by Orly Taitz, Birther Supreme:

(Attachment D) shows that Magic Plumbing had worked on the sprinkler system at the World Trade Center just days before 9/11. One of the men that performed this work lived in Brooklyn. He left Brooklyn on 9/11 and went to Tennessee. A woman that had a court date involving identity theft with the motor vehicle department in Tennessee met a mysterious death. Mr. Chatfield had no comment or thought in reference to this material being shown to him.

Compelling evidence. I now believe that Barack Obama was actually born inside the World Trade Center based on this testimony, possibly in WTC-7 itself. Let's remember that Mr Chatfield had no comment or thought in reference to this material. What more need we say?

Still Moron NYC-CAN

David Ray Grifter offers his endorsement and shakes the cup for NYC-CAN. I almost doubled up with laughter at this bit:

Having anticipated that this would happen---that no matter how many signatures it submitted, the city clerk would declare a sufficient number of them invalid to prevent the 30,000 number from being reached---NYC CAN was prepared to go to court, if necessary.

NYC CAN will go to court this Monday, August 3, for its first hearing. But its formal plaintiffs---four 9/11 family members and one survivor---are proceeding without the aid of an experienced election lawyer.

Heh, they were prepared to go to court if necessary. "Okay, are we all set? Clown car, check! Two-dollar suit from Salvation Army, check. Signs saying '9-11 Was An Inside Job', check. Lawyer? Oh, crap, who forgot to hire the lawyer?"

Quick Hits

Good to see that Victoria Ashley and Jim Hoffman have noticed the problem with Gregory Louis Hoover. They even give us credit for finding it, although that really belongs with JREF forum member Sleahead, who was the first to find out about the story.

Update: I see Alex still has his interview up with Hoover, on his channel at YouTube. It's got 4,000+ views and 189 ratings, the average of which is 5 stars. C'mon Alex, take down the video for this segment; why would you give airtime to a conman? Oh, snap!

Luke's trial for trespassing at the Bloomberg event has been postponed until October.

NYC-CAN's fatal flaws will surely prevent it from ever reaching the ballot stage. Consider this language in the petition:

Commissioners may come from any part of the world and shall not be required to maintain a residence in New York State.

And then the applicable part of NY State Law:

No person shall be capable of holding a civil office who shall not, at the time he shall be chosen thereto, have attained the age of eighteen years, except that in the case of youth boards, youth commissions or recreation commissions only, members of such boards or commissions may be under the age of eighteen years, but must have attained the age of sixteen years on or before appointment to such youth board, youth commission or recreation commission, be a citizen of the United States, a resident of the state, and if it be a local office, a resident of the political subdivision or municipal corporation of the state for which he shall be chosen, or within which the electors electing him reside, or within which his official functions are required to be exercised, or who shall have been or shall be convicted of a violation of the selective draft act of the United States, enacted May eighteenth, nineteen hundred seventeen, or the acts amendatory or supplemental thereto, or of the federal selective training and service act of nineteen hundred forty or the acts amendatory thereof or supplemental thereto.

Bolding added for emphasis. Lincoln Chafee is a resident of Rhode Island, Laurie Van Auken of New Jersey, Bishop Gumbleton (IIRC) is from Detroit. As far as I know, Ralph Schoenman is the only actual NY resident. So you have several commissioners specified who cannot even serve.

Request for Help With Top Post

We've had that sucker up there for 2-1/2 years or so and it's pretty stale. The Screw Loose Change Forum's been gone for over a year; does anybody talk about 9-11 Mysteries anymore? I can see the need for some basic links, like Gravy's 9-11 pages, Mike W's 9-11 Myths, and Kate's Debunking 9-11. Maybe a generic link to the JREF 9-11 Conspiracy Theory page. I don't want to close out the idea of linking Markyx's Screw Loose Change video or Screw 9-11 Mysteries, either, but I do think a smaller top post would be appreciated by all; even I get tired of scrolling down.

Thoughts?

NYC-CAN Update

The NYC-CAN website continues to make no mention of their epic fail the other day; the latest "news" posted on the website is that they submitted the petition. As far as I can see, nobody on the Troof side has posted links to the two-page letter explaining why the petition was rejected. Indeed, they seem to be trying to create the false impression that the only issue was the number of signatures.

A number of the Troofers have pointed out that the executive director of the commission is Ted Walter, who is apparently a cipher. The only real information I've been able to glean is from his bio at the NYC-CAN website:

On the morning of September 11 I was in my first ever class at NYU.

He was apparently a film student there, so we're certainly talking about a young guy--26, 27?

Further to the NYC-CAN story, we now know who "the best election lawyer in NYC"; it's Dennis P. McMahon. Like most attorneys, he's an aspiring writer.

After experiencing what he would later describe as spontaneous mystical events, Dennis became deeply involved in seeking explanations thru shamanism, past-life regressions, communications with the dead, and the like.

Sounds like somebody Les (Urantia) Jamieson would have hired.

Update: SLC gets results; NYC-CAN now has an update on their appeal:

The NYC CAN petition was rejected by the City Clerk on Friday, July 24th, a week ago, certifying less than the minimum of 30,000 qualified signatures of electors. This benchmark, according to the Clerk’s office was not met. A ‘qualified elector’ is a registered New York City voter who was eligible to vote in the last election. According to the letter sent by the Clerk to the City Council, the NY Board of Elections validated 26,003 signatures and invalidated 24,664, leaving 1,333 that were not certified.

Jeez, they were rejected on Friday, July 24 and they just mentioned it on August 1? Ignore the July 31st dateline on that post; I checked this morning and there was no update at the time I made my post.

Jon Gold also notes the letter in an OpEd News Diary dated July 31 (but posted shortly after my post).

I guess it shows these folks can be shamed into doing the right thing, even if they are unashamed to try to pretend they did it before the shaming.
